Lightwielder

The Caverns’ darkness was all-consuming. The miasma bled through your skin, seeped through flesh and bone, and ultimately pooled into your heart. No cure has been found for it, nor had there ever been a man strong enough to have resisted it. But it was evadable. Only light shines through darkness, and only the most powerful light shines through the Caverns. To generate it requires a Wielder – A human in control of the elements around them, a human with magical powers beyond the ordinary. Yet none have existed for two hundred years.

"I would have never known," Roran said jokingly to himself.

It turned out that every student was supposed to start with two credits, just to get them going. Jordis had probably given him the eight extra.

"Here is your Mana Stone," The machine dictated mechanically. A blue, glittering, nail-sized stone popped out from the hole in the wall. The Mana was coursing inside, flowing through small vein-like threads which shrouded the whole rock.

The machine suddenly spoke again, "You have nine credits remaining."

"So, this was it?" Roran inspected the stone, "this small thing?"

Roran had bought this with one credit, seeing as it was the cheapest, but also one of the most useful. The Mana inside could be used for expanding Roran's Mana stores. Recently, Roran has been visiting his Vorshmin quite a lot. He is starting to see the globe inside grow in size.

Of course, Roran has been taking lessons. For a Combat Magician, the necessary courses are: Practical Combat, Spells and Runes, Physical Enhancement, and Magical Creatures.

Roran's first subject of every single day was Spells and Runes. The teacher, Professor Norman, was a Demigod of the 149th level. This meant that he was the elite among the elite. The people that reach the Demigod level did not amount over a thousand, which, compared to the population of Azeroth, twenty billion, is absolutely insignificant.

Professor Norman started by teaching them the most basic spells. Conjuring elements. This was the most fundamental. Fire, Water, Earth, Ice, and Wind were the ones they started with. The students struggled fantastically, with strange phenomenon occurring. One, a burly boy, made his table suddenly jerk, and then springing into life, flying around with incredible vigor. The Professor was very amused. He explained that the table began moving because of the boy tried to conjure wind, but the table was caught in between his wind and other people's, making the table fly around messily.

Roran had managed to conjure all the elements on his first try. Professor Norman was pleasantly surprised, studied him for a while, and then continued to overlook the progress of other students.

After Professor Norman had dealt with a student getting burned by one of her colleague's fire, he turned to Roran, "You can work on conjuring Light. Light is one of the harder elements to conjure. You should keep in mind that if you do manage to do it, tone it down. There have been many cases of permanent blindness because of students conjuring too much light."

Roran nodded and then started to work on the light. Slowly, he reached to his Mana. And then, in his mind, he silently repeated, "Let there be light."

Then, light came. It started from a small orb, slowly revolving. Then, it expanded drastically. The brilliance filled the room. Every student, no matter where they are, subconsciously looked away, and then when the light faded, they searched for its origin.

Roran felt the gazes burn into him. Strange, he thought, everyone is moving. Then he felt his legs buckle under him. As Roran thudded onto the ground, a monotone voice announced something very strange indeed…
