Life With Cats

Life With Cats is a novel I've worked on for about a year now. It's a warm hearted story about a woman who dies of old age surrounded by the cats she loves with all her heart. She longs to continue living with them, forever. Thankfully and unknowingly the God of Laziness cared for her life enough to grant her another chance. She decides to continue her Life With Cats. Updates coming soon!

"Velvet." Velvet is a shy scaredy cat. She often hid under beds, and refused to take baths. I didn't give the cats baths a lot but there was this one time that Velvet got herself stuck in a rat trap and I had to give her one. It was a pain. She scratched me up really good. After that time, I always made sure to keep some distance when giving her a bath. Out of all of them, Velvet is the cuddliest. She'd be by my side for most of the day, probably because I was the strongest and biggest. Velvet is a tuxedo cat, and was always quite small.

After a gentle breeze, she looks a bit bigger, but not by much. I wasn't expecting a lot, but her fur did mature well. Her tail was only up high when I was around her, so hers was up once she saw me fully as her eyes were closed before.

"Master!" She cuddles into my arms. Taking her rightful place in my arms.

"Velvet!" I cuddle her back.

"Can I stay here?" She lays down on the bed by me. It should be noted that I've been just kneeling on the floor and handling the kittens carefully over the bed. I just wanted to be in the best position to catch them if they happened to fall off at some point. Although, yes, it did hurt my knees a bit. After doing this for a while, I think that instead I should just sit on the bed with them. I'm not too worried now since there's just the 4 of them left to keep track of. The next couple cats were always either hiding, and often never seen unless going to the litter or to eat. Or liked to sneak up to either me or the other cats to scare them. So I got up and sat myself crisscross in the middle of the bed, keeping the 3 kittens close.

"Snake." Snake is a cat that was named at a rescue group. He was only a couple weeks back then too. He often hid under my bed, and was only noticeable when he'd randomly meow or stick his tail out from under the bed. One time I accidentally stood on his tail, and his frightened screech appeared in my nightmares for weeks. He's a lovely cat, he's just protective of his master and the master's bed. His fur is dark grey and his eyes are a lovely blue. If he wasn't basked in the light, his fur appeared black. If he was outside, he'd be the one to hunt anything and everything. Even things twice his size. He once attacked a squirrel, and brought him back alive. As if to say, yes I am badass as hell. The squirrel lived a full and happy life.

"Master." Snake greets softly then disappears under the bed. Not too interesting.

Out of the last three kittens, two were asleep. The little fur ball that was awake was coming this way. Yes, yes, yes. This is little Doggy. Somehow, this cat made me wonder daily if I had somehow come across a half breed. Both cat and dog at the same time. This is the outdoor cat. The cat that would wear a collar and a leash, and would go hiking with you. He has a lot of stamina. Which means he's super active. He'd run around the house if he wasn't let out. And he was let out, a lot. He would climb trees, but never get stuck in them. I would go to the park and find him in a bush. I'd be like "Who let the dogs out?"

I pick up the little fur ball in my hands. His fur sticks out from the gaps of my fingers. I remember first getting him when he was a bit older than this, and his fur was a bit shorter. But still a mess, somehow. I'd have to comb him out a couple times a day for the first couple of weeks. He'd get himself in all sorts of messes.

"Doggy." A breeze, and a ding? Again? Another skill? Doggy notices I'm a bit busy so he sits and waits. I check the pad after petting his head.

Okay, I'll do that later. Let's work on the rest of the cats. I've never played a lot of games, so I really don't know what each stat does yet. All I know is I've got a lot more of Vitality than I have of everything else.

I picked up the last cat. This is Frankie, she's quiet but almost too quiet. I'll be looking for them and checking every spot they're usually hiding. But I won't be capable of finding her. Then she'll just pop out of some random spot. Probably thinking to herself, 'Master sucks at hide and seek.'

"Frankie." Frankie was named after Frankenstein because her fur has little patches in it. She looks like she was pieced together. Frankie was a cat that I was given after one of my friends passed away. On her will she stated that she wanted Frankie to live with me. I could see my friends' traits in Frankie. She was always sleeping and if she wasn't sleeping, she looked out of it.

"I'm going to sleep." I feel like my magic is definitely depleted. I feel so dizzy. After two hours, give or take, of naming the cats, I just want to lay down with them and fall asleep. I could feel furry bodies take their places around my sleepy body, and then I dozed off.

Velvet is themed around one of my cats in real life, small and timid... and a tuxedo cat too. I love my cats and these cats in this story all come to life because of my love for cats and because of Lottie's love for cats. So I hope whoever is reading shares that love, because it'll be all over this book.
