Dark Nights

The clock was ticking indicating the biginning of a new day; it was midnight. 'People would describe midnight as the killing time. For at midnight the night watchmen would pocket their bribes from the mob and 'sleep' for an hour. Midnight meant a free rein for murder, extortion and pillage. It means locking your doors against the inky blackness and praying your number wasn't up. For if they came for you, your cries would bleed into the night unheard by your protectors. No jack boots would come running for you. At midnight it was every citizen for themselves.'

As a child, Blair thought that this kind of stories, told by the grannies in her old neighbourhood, were meant to frighten the kids so that they won't sneak from home to play outside at night. But the current her knew better than to judge these tales as some myth. And her strongest evidence was the absence of the man that she was supposed to meet tonight. And that only meant one thing; someone is suffering out there. Another thing she has learned during the past two years is that whoever comes across this man would go missing and his body... Or whatever is left of it would never be found. And if It was found then that only ment that this is but a warning to his enemies and that there are another victims on their way. However the disturbing fact is that there was never a single trace leading to expose the identity of this perpetrator. It's as if it was all done by a ghost. 'A ghost? It certainly suit him. Only one thing; he's far worst than that.' Chuckling at her own thought, she stood up from the comfy huge bed, that can easily fit four grown men, and started roaming around the enormous bedroom searching for something interesting, and just like that a silver gun caught her attention; It had a few dried stains of blood. As she was about to touch it, a deep familiar husky voice was heard:

"What are doing?" Three simple words but they seemed very powerful at the moment. She was able to recognise that tone very well; disapproval.

Stepping aside, she forced a smile then turned her head and was met with his usual sight. It was terrifying nonetheless... but not for her. She became used to it.

The blood that had once flowed thick and scarlet in their veins was clasped in his hands. If it wasn't for the dark colored shirt that prevented her from seeing the dried red patches , she would have said that he has slaughtered hundreds of people, and he was totally capable of doing it all alone.

His eyes were focused on the woman in front of him. She was wearing a dark green dress that matched her eyes. She had chosen to leave her wavy natural blond hair free without any restrictions; just as he likes it.

He watched her approaching him at a steady pace until she was directly in front of him. Even tho she was wearing high heels, he was still taller than her. So she had to stand on her tiptoes to reach him and encircle her arms around his neck.

"Waiting for you of course" Blair replied in a whisper that was perfectly heard by him. Without waiting for his reply, she continued saying: " Did you miss me?"

One would never live to see another day if he was in her place. But she was different and had different circumstances. She believed herself to have a special place in... his heart? No. In his world. And she wasn't wrong yet she wasn't right either.

Without replying her, he moved her arms aside and went in his large bathroom. Shutting the door behind him, he threw his dirty shirt away then entered the shower waiting for the impact of cold water on his body.

Meanwhile, the woman he left outside was now sitting on top of a nightstand browsing the book that she had found in one of the drawers. She wasn't really interested in reading it but still it caught her attention. Its faded torn out pages made it seem quite old. 'Why would he even keep it in his bedroom in the first place.' Something deep down inside her told her that there might be a story behind this but her mind snickered at the thought.

As she was flipping to the next page, the door of the bathroom got opened revealing a beast in his full glory. He had a towel wrapped around his waist exposing his muscled tattooed body.

As soon as he saw her holding that book his eyes darkened making a shiver run down her spine.

"You're making yourself at home way too much" his voice rang In her head making her stand up and return the item to its original place. 'Well someone kept me waiting for two hours, and when I finally got to see him he ignored me' she wanted to say but decided against it reminding herself that she still had some unfinished business and she can't risk losing her life now.

Seeing him take a place on his bed, she went beside him and sat on his lap then whispered in a sudective voice while looking into his eyes "That's right, looks like I forgot my place. So make me remember it, Elijah"

And just like that his lips captured hers in a rough demanding kiss as she entangled her left hand with his soft silky black hair leaving her other hand to ran freely on his abs.

Their night had just began.
