Chapter 120, The Cities that Disappeared

After the other day, security around the school and nearby town has been raised to ensure nothing bad happens. Everyone's also been on high alert and I've been trying to track them down but I can't feel it their Vi at all. It's strange, usually a person's Vi doesn't disappear so easily. How they do it is something I don't know but I know that my ability isn't strong, what's strange is that even the Chronicle and Van can't track them down. Usually, the two have the power to see and know everything that has happened in the world, either those are Irregulars or they have the pwoer to surpass Van and the Chronicle and erase their records from the world.

"Arata, you here?" Leon callled out to me.

"Yeah. I'm coming." I answered as I came out my room. "Let's go."

We head out and to the school building as today we have classes.A boring lecture awaits us and I spend the morning trying to keep myself from yawning. At lunch, Theo and the others seem to be having a great day when I get a call from Monica.

"Monica, is something wrong?" I answered her call.

"There's something we wanted to ask you. The Banquet of Blood, what happens during it?" She asked.

"That depends, sometimes towns and cities are destroyed, sometimes countess people are just found dead." I answered. "Why, did something happen?"

"On the mainland, apparently a whole city disappeared and all that's left was a crater." She answered and I became suspicious. "Could it be related?"

"No. There's no way for a whole city to just disappear. Even if they have the Key." I answered. "Can you send me pictures of the city that disappeared. I'll send Growth there to investigate."

"Okay then." She answered and sent me photos.

I review them one by one and try to understand and unravel whatever has happened here. The entiree city has litterally disappeared leaving only a crater. I can't find anything at all from the pictures so I sent Growth to the mainland.

"Could this be the work of the Chimeras?" Angie asked.

"I've never heard of a Chimera capable of causing a city to disappear over night." Hiro said.

"Oh, there's a video." I said.

I play the video that Monica sent over, which apparently contains footage of when the city disappeared from a hiker that nearby at the time.

Above the city, a large magic square suddenly appears and the city disappears after that. Hmmm... that magic square contained at least ten if not twenty different layers. Whatever it was, it had to require large amounts of Mana and Vi.

I take out a map and mark out the cities that have disappeared trying to find something. They originated from the northern edge of the mainland and went down north-east and continued down that direction before suddenly going into random directions.

"Oi, oi." I said as I looked at the direction they traveled.

"What is it?" Pres. Mayumi asked.

"You've got to be kidding me." I answered. "Van, Zander, does this remind you of anything?"

I showed the two the map where I've marked out the cities and towns that have suddenly disappeared. If my hunch is right, then the cities and towns that have disappeared are forming a large magical square that is covering the entire mainland. With this, I can deduce that their target would be... the mainland's capital city, Zenith City.

"Judging by this outline, could it be possible that whoever is behind this is trying to cast a revival spell?" Zander asked. "By sacrificing the lives of all the people in the east, could they be trying to revive something extremely powerful?"

"It's plausible. But the issue is where are the cities that have disappeared." Van stated.

"Growth! Head for the skies of the city crater!" I ordered it.

Growth, who was sending us live feed, flew up into the sky and eventually found it. The city that was lost, the city that disappeared, floating a few hundreds of meters above the ground. The people trapped inside a large barrier covering the entire city.

"What do we do?" Theo asked.

"First, share this information with Monica and the others." I told them. "We have to hurry to the mainland, now."

"Yeah. We understand." Will said and he and the others went off.

"Arata, can we come with?" Touya asked.

"Alright then." I answered when I saw the resolve in their eyes. "We leave as soon as the Principal gives his ok. Be prepared."

"We uave to hurry, judging by what we've gathered, the time it takes to reactiavte the spell is only 24 hours." Van said. "The last city disappeared last night at around 6 O'clock. Meaning we have little more than five hours to get there to stop them from teleporting the capital city."

"Wait, how do we stop them?" Lucas asked.

"I can handle that part." Sakura said. "The Azure Dragon specializes in spatial magic after all."

"I can help as well." I answered. "I'll construct a large scale spell that'll cancel out the effects of theirs."

"We have to hurry, five hours isn't much time."

We all rush, this is a battle of time. Five hours left till the capital is lost. If they sent the capital into the air, then everything is ready. They can cancel the spell on the floating islands and all the cities and twosn that have disappeared would fall to the ground causing all the surrounding areas to be destroyed. It would kill thousands of lives, that would be enough for their spell to activate. Whatever they're planning, we must stop them. The lives of thousands of people rested on our shoulders, we mustn't fail, no matter what.
