"Look at this girl... She's here with that illiterate servant again... Why can't she just come without that eyesore around her?" said a maiden who was here with a beautiful maidservant.
Accompanying alongside her are two youths about Yanglin and Xia Xuan-Xuan's age. Everyone belonged to the same village, but just different in their status. Amongst the six of them, Yanglin is naturally the one with the lowest social status as an orphan.
It is then followed by Xia Xuan-Xuan, who lost her father while he was trying to protect the village from the attack of a Spiritual Beast.
As for the two lads, their standing was neither low nor high.
The only eyesore between them was the maiden with her maidservant. As the only daughter of the village chief, it was typical for her to behaves like a young tyrant in this village. There's not a single person who dares to go against her wish as they're afraid they'll make things difficult for their parents.
Furthermore, even if they wished to do so, they'll have to make sure to have enough strength to defeat her.
Although she was pretty, arrogant, and self-entitled, this maiden called Liu Shuixian had the background to stay that way. Having a cultivator father allowed her to get exposure to the cultivation world earlier than the other youngsters of her age.
It was unfair, but sometimes, when, where, and how you're born plays a part in your life to decide whether you're a worm or a dragon.
'Now I feel like going back to where I came from. This bunch of wannabe was the same as the so-called Media Influencers, correct?' Yanglin shook his head while remaining indifferent towards everyone else.
His changes in attitude caught the attention of everyone else present. Although they're not close to the point of being called friends, nobody was oblivious about how the previous Yanglin would behave in front of Xia Xuan-Xuan.
He should be absolutely captivated by her at all times. But right now, he looks lacks interest in everything.
'How long more should I be waiting here like a fool before that self-entitled, self-proclaimed princess opens the door into the library?' Yanglin wished he can order Liu Shuixian to open the door quickly, but unfortunately... He doesn't have the strength to back what he wanted to say.
His attitude made Xia Xuan-Xuan pouting on her own at a corner. Although she's too was an unrivaled beauty, she couldn't be compared to Liu Shuixian at this moment because all she was... were a daughter of a widow.
Unlike Liu Shuixian, her father is still alive. He's also the village chief, which explained the difference in her status. And again, her father was a cultivator. Although it was unknown at what level is his cultivation, he's still a cultivator, nevertheless.
Another half an hour passed as everyone had something occupying their mind. Assuming that this was the crowd for the once-a-week library studying session, Liu Shuixian took the key out from her belt and unlocked the lock about the size of an adult's palm.
But except for the two lads that came as early as Liu Shuixian and Xia Xuan-Xuan, everyone else doesn't seem to have the same motivation. Of course, the reason behind their lack of interest is expected.
At least half of them were either illiterate or barely able to read. Although throwing the youngsters into the library and forcing them to study the materials here was a good way for them to improve themselves, it was done wrongly.
To Yanglin, who was educated in the school until university and landed himself with a position in a reputable company, he knew that such an archaic education method would yield zero results.
Having a teacher teaching them how to read and write would change everything, but it's not like that was his responsibility. He could barely feed himself right now, set aside trying to teach them.
Furthermore, he has no interest in educating a bunch of youngsters. Although the body that houses his spirit was belonged to sixteen years old, he's still someone with a mentality of 32 years old.
Yanglin was reluctant, but he had to follow where Xia Xuan-Xuan goes, even if he was unwilling. The two walked past a few shelves with close to a hundred books before stopping at a corner shelf.
'What is this girl trying to do here?' Yanglin took a quick glance at the book's title.
(Distribution of Jade River Province)
-
(Understanding Cultivation, Foundation Realm)
-
(Way of Alchemy and Medicine)
-
(Everything about your Spiritual Root)
'Hmm... The title of the book is quite an interesting one. Should I grab one to read by myself?' Yanglin's hand hovered between the book named (Understanding Cultivation) and Everything about your Spiritual Root).
What he was doing was seen by Xia Xuan-Xuan and Liu Shuixian. It's not like the two of them were clueless about the fact Yanglin was illiterate. But weirdly, he seems to be torn in between choosing one of the two books to read first.
A sudden thought appeared in their mind. Yanglin had no idea that he would still get the two maiden's attention. Because he was indecisive about which book to start, both books were taken away from his left and right.
"Hey! I was in the middle of choosing the book!" Yanglin raised his voice at the two individuals that snatched the book from him.
"What? Can you even read the book?" Xia Xuan-Xuan said.
"Just grab a random book and come to the seat with me. Did you forget what my mother asks you to do? And don't you dare to fall asleep while I'm still reading." she added and made her way to one of the chairs.
"Bossy..." Yanglin squinted his eyes at Xia Xuan-Xuan. His eyes soon fall on a book titled (How to cultivate by Fist King Zhou Xun).
Grabbing that book that looked older than all the other books on the shelf, he followed Xia Xuan-Xuan's footsteps and leaned on the pillar beside her chair.
'That bitch... I'll teach her a lesson when I had the chance. Let us grab a seat near that male servant of hers!" Liu Shuixian said to her maidservant.
"Yes, young lady..."
