He was murdered

Katty POV

It's been 20minutes since I laid against my fiancé's laps as we watched our favorite TV show. I had to find a lawyer for Ciara within this week. And he was the only one who could support me on that. How you may ask. He has a friend who is a lawyer. They've known each other for a long time. Not just that, but we got to know one another as well. Nevertheless, I have to talk to Eliot, my fiancé about it before I can make a step towards his friend.

I was procrastinating on a suitable time to tell because of his un moody reaction today. I didn't get the chance to question him about his attitude due to the up and down calls he had. Unlike me, he works in his office out of the home. But today, he had to stay back because of some issues with their building. I was uncertain if he'd been behaving that way for some time now and I didn't give my attention to it or just today.

Well, we rarely see each other. First of all, I'm super busy, and I don't leave with him yet. While he leaves for almost 21hours to work before he returns. That's messed up I know but, we can't do otherwise for now. And by the way, we've been this way before we met.

I stared blankly at the TV while my head drew all the plot of 'my about to give essay'. I sighed after having a good god damn plot then faced him sitting upright. He didn't bulge as he pretends to be so focused. Do you see that? That's the exact attitude I've been talking about.

I clear my throat not tearing my gaze from him and he blinks his eyes bringing his neck towards me.

"Are you pretending not to see me or you just don't know how to react?"

"What if both?" he questions and I stare at him longer than gaze at the screen.

He follows my gaze saying nothing more. I was vexed so I turned off the TV before he brought back his gaze to me. This time with seriousness.

"What's wrong with you?"

"What's wrong with me?!" I repeat questioningly.

"I've been studying you this whole time, and it's clear how messed up you are. Could you just end this weird attitude?"

"Sure. Let's end it. What is it you have to say?" he surprisingly gives his complete attention, his eyes intimidating. I loosen my focus because of that. Then give out a gentle sigh looking at my hands.

"What? You can't face me now?" he acknowledges more than he inquires.

I look at him instantly "Not That-Just-You can't keep on with that look if you want me to stare back."

"Why not?"

"Eliot!" I yell jamming my hands against my lap. He places his lips into a thin line. That's how he behaves when he's on his nerves.

"I'm sorry" I apologize at once. "I need your help with something and your attitude isn't helping."

He waits almost impatiently as I struggle to formulate words more words. Don't get me wrong, I don't always do this with him. Today is just different.

"Ciara…has an issue with her baby's father" I pause then go on "She needs a lawyer. So I chose Sam. But I haven't told him yet. I needed to tell you first"

"So this is about Ciara" is all he responds after seconds pass

I give him a confused look "What are you talking about?"

"Good question," he says

"Okayy-" I don't get to complete my words as he cuts in with "There has never been a conversation without any of your friends involved"

"Wait-what?"

"Yeah, it's always about them! You care less about me!"

I tried hard to buy his words but they sounded so expensive to my ears. After a few seconds, I digested his statement but still couldn't formulate a speech to revoke.

My mouth almost drops agape at my acknowledgments. How could he feel that way? I've always tried to be there for him when I got the chance. He met my best friends before we knew each other. So why the sudden observation?

"That's not true! I've always been there for you"

"Yes, it is! You don't listen to me anyway so why waste my time talking" he rose to leave and I followed behind him.

"I don't know where all these are coming from but you need to understand I can't always be there for you. I have a career and a family-"

He faces her cutting her words "I'm tired of hearing that. You seem to forget I'll soon be your family"

She became speechless and he walked away leaving her frozen.

"How did you escape the house?" Brithney questions Leonel's wife

"I told him I was going to get some groceries for the house."

"Just like that?! That was quite easy. However, we need to keep our eyes wide open"

"Yeah…I think he's cheating on me" she speaks solemnly

Brithney gives her a faint smile with sympathy in her heart. I guess she already knows who Leonel is. She was never a problem. And even if she had accepted his offer years back, she won't have had peace.

"I'm sorry to talk to you about this but…back then when both of you were together, did he seem to be this kind of man"

Britney is almost speechless but gets over the mood "Well, he-we were never together officially and, even with the times I was with him, he looked cool and responsible but I later realized that he was a camouflage of his real self. So I don't know what to say about this topic. I just believe that not everyone is fit for love."

The young lady studies her curiously as Brithney takes in the vast beautiful garden they conversed in.

"You seem quite different. I wish it were possible for me. Sometimes I hoped I didn't have a heart. The only man I ever loved was murdered. It almost drove me crazy. I was so young then but what I felt was so real and unique. However, after his death, Leonel showed up. He was always there and made sure no tear drop down my cheeks. Suddenly, after our marriage, he changed. And started, hiding things from me until I discovered every one of them." The lady muttered with her eyes lost in the air.

Brithney was silently reflecting and analyzing her words with brows slightly knitted. "Did you just say, the man you loved was killed?" and his wife ogled her.

"Yeah. He left a letter saying some people were coming after him just immediately before he died."

"And do you know who did that to him?"

She gently shook "Not yet. However, in the letter, he mentioned something about his killer. He said, his enemy is his longtime friend. But I know none of his old friends,"

Brithney searched her thoughts then responded, "How did you know about Leonel and his Dad?"

She squints her eyes straining the sun's reflection from getting into her orbits "I knew Leonel from my first love. They were business partners and their families were close. However, his dad was a very good man. After he died, he left a message, annexing him as the new CEO of his company."
