"Allie," he murmured, "it's me."
Before she turned too abruptly, he gently took her arm and guided her around to face him. She gave him a neutral appraisal, though her eyes betrayed a sudden enlargement of the pupils and the glossy sheen of surprise.
"Ross, darling!" Allie exclaimed after a beat, and then laughed sweetly as she wiggled her arm from his grasp. "You finally found me."
He had dreamed about this moment, what he would say when he found her, but now Ross could only manage a thin smile and a terse comment. "Yes, finally."
"You'll have to tell me all about it, how you managed to track me down."
"I have all the time in the world."
"So do I at the moment." She reached up to caress his cheek, her gaze intent on his face. "You shaved it all off. Such a pity! Yet, you've managed to keep that mature and wise look."
