Chapter 19: Soldier On

I cleaned up their bodies a I stored them to give them a proper burial later. They don't deserve to have nameless graves out here. I then drove slowly to the base as I think particularly of nothing.

Eden and the group are silent. Just riding on the plane they're on quietly as various thoughts stew in their mind. What's gonna happen now? How about the other civilians? Most importantly, what situation Ein is in right now.

As the deafening silence continues, Mei is now starting to gain consciousness.

Kevin: "Mei! Are you okay!?" He asked, concerned.

Mei: "Ugh, what happened. I remembered that we were evacuating, then nothing." She shook her head to rid of her grogginess, frowning from the headache. She took a look around her and saw Kevin, Su, Elysia, Himeko, and Eden.

"Wait a minute, where's Ein!?" The gears in her head started to turn quickly.

Himeko: "While we were in the VTOL, a honkai beast attacked us and we crashed on the ground. It was a templar." She then became silent as she didn't want to continue.

Elysia: "Ein then used a spear the Fire moth agent had and he fought it. He was like a blur, we then saw a gas powered car and he told us to drive away to safety..." She slowly got quieter towards the end.

Mei: "Then where is he!? He didn't." Mei gasped as her eyes widen like saucers.

Eden: "He's gotta be okay right? I know he is, he's the most amazing person I've seen. He'll come and see us I'm sure." She quickly reasoned, anxiety clear on her body as she twitches constantly and can't calm down.

Elysia: "Yeah! He went ka-pow and he dodged like a pro when it attacked like woosh. He'll be okay, we got to believe.

Kevin: "That guy's too amazing. He'll probably be there on the base already."

Su: "I agree, just on what we saw back there he got that in the bag."

Himeko: "He is honestly inhuman, I've sparred with him a lot. I think he'll take that honkai beast down and is tracking us down by now."

The teenagers relaxed a bit as they quickly arrived on a base in Shenzou (China in honkai)

They then were escorted to their quarters to rest in the meantime.

As Mei was trying to rest for a bit due to the immense stress she experienced today, she heard a knock on her door. As she opened the door she saw a petite young woman with shoulder length green hair and green eyes with pink undertones.

???: "Ms. Mei? Am I correct." She asked.

Mei: "Um, that's right, may I know who you are?"

???: "Sorry, my name is Klein. May you please accompany me? We have an important conversation to discuss concerning your future from here on out." She said in a monotone voice. (Insert pic here)

Mei: "Righhhht, do go on." She said, quite suspicious

They walked for a few minutes as Klein knocked on the door.

"Professor, I've brought Ms. Mei as you've instructed." They waited a bit as the door opened.

???: "Where's Einheri Klein? He was supposed to be with them, is he not?" She said with slight irritation."

Klein: "Dr. Mobius, Einheri was not with them when they arrived. The agent tasked to transport them here has said that they were attacked by a templar. To let them escape, he fought it in cqc, wielding a honkai energy weapon."

Mobius: "What!? Let the nearby bases on the site he was last seen in go search for him ASAP! He must be found immediately! Dead or alive." She said with steel in her voice. (insert pic)

Klein: "Yes professor." As she left the room, leaving Mei with Mobius.

Mei: "Uhh, can you now please tell me what is the important discussion we must have?" She observed the young woman. She had long, thick, shaggy green hair with a buxom figure. She was wearing a green shirt with a lab coat.

Mobius then looked at Mei with a gleam in her eyes as she analyzed her from head to toe.

"Ahhh, Mei. One of the most brilliant minds of our time. I've seen your presentation about quantum mechanics you see? With your intellect, I believe you can be a great asset within our ranks. With your knowledge and specialty, we can possibly use honkai energy to new heights! How about it? Would you like to work as a researcher here in Fire moth?"

Mei pondered for a bit while listening to this suspicious woman. She just got a bad feeling from her. But she quickly shook her head and decided. "Yes, I've wanted to work here in Fire moth with Ein ever since we were kids. If you think I can contribute a lot, I'll be a researcher for Fire moth."

Mobius: "Goooood, you'll be a junior researcher for now. Rest for now and we'll begin your research and work later. I have work to do, leave." She said without a chance for further questions.

Mei returned to her quarters and she found Kevin waiting for her. "Kevin, why are you here? Do you need anything?"

Kevin: "I'm just a bit anxious you know, I can't rest peacefully while Ein is out there while we don't know what happened to him."

Mei: "He's being searched by MOTH kevin, he'll be found eventually. Speaking of that, I'm now a researcher here in MOTH."

Kevin: "Really!? That's great! You've finally achieved your dream. While I don't know if I can even reach mine now." He said with a somber tone.

Mei: "It's alright Kevin, I know you'll find something that's just as important."

Kevin: "We were actually informed earlier that we'll be transported to another city. We can't stay here after all, not when we don't work here."

Mei: "Oh, how about the others? What will they do."

Kevin: "It's still for a few more days until they've dealt with the honkai eruption, we're still thinking."

Mei: "In the meantime, let's wait for Ein to arrive. I'm sure MOTH will find him. Let's let the others know, especially Eden. She's the most affected by what happened."
