New Vigilant

(A/N): English is not my language, so if you find a grammatical error let me know; 🇧🇷

A beautiful night reigned over Peacefulville, the hometown of Bastion, a place that lived up to its name for being a calm and peaceful place. Speaking of Bastion, the boy was seen sitting on the porch of his old house, next to him was an old man, Professor Sebastion, Bastion grandfather.

Sebastion was already an elderly man in his 60s or 70s. He had pale white skin just like his grandson, dark blue eyes, and white hair and beard from old age. He wore a white scientist's coat, underneath a light blue shirt with a dark blue tie with white polka dots, reddish brown pants and brown shoes.

Sebastion was confused by the quick visit that his grandson had come to pay him, not that he was complaining, he loved Bastion with all his heart, but it hadn't been long since the boy had moved to live with Elizabeth.

Sebastion: So son, what happened?

Bastion: Well... it's about my powers.

The boy then took an iron bar in his hands before speaking thoughtfully.

Bastion: I feel like I'm getting stronger, Grandpa.

He then bends the iron bar as if it were made of paper before handing it to Sebastion who looks at it in surprise.

Sebastion: This bar was stronger than the others we used to measure strength.

Bastion: And that's not all. Just look.

The boy then focuses his vision in the middle of the iron bar and a few seconds later the metal starts to turn red when it breaks in two. Sebastion looks down at the two bars in his hands as he realizes the metal has melted just from the look Bastion is giving him.

Sebastion: You melted the metal! And you just looked!

Bastion: I know. But there's more.

The boy then draws some air from his lungs before blowing into the molten sections of the bars as cold air comes out of his mouth and cools the molten metal.

Sebastion: Laser vision and icy breath, it looks like you're starting to awaken Chemical X powers.

Bastion: I thought the same thing.

Sebastion: When did they start to appear?

Bastion: Since I left for Townsville, it seems like I'm getting stronger every day. I stopped a robbery, caught gunfire like it was nothing. I ran faster than ever to save a child and his family from an accident on the way here. The car was on fire and I destroyed it like it was cardboard, I didn't even feel the fire on me. The car exploded, but managed to get everyone out in time and I had to act as a shield to protect the child and all I got was torn and burned clothes.

He then gets up when he walks back and forth.

Bastion: I'm getting worried about these Chemicals in my blood, Grandpa. Having that much power scares me.

The old scientist observes his grandson's worried face and sighs when he sees him that way before getting up and walking towards the boy.

Sebastion: My grandson, I know you're going through a difficult situation, but I believe you gained these powers for a reason.

Bastion: Grandpa, that was an accident.

Sebastion: There are no accidents. You were chosen by fate for a reason, boy. You are a very special boy, Bastion, destined for greatness. I know you will have many doubts on your way, but never forget who you are and remember my grandson.

The boy then looks at the scientist who speaks with a kind and warm smile on his face.

Sebastion: I'm proud of you and your father and mother are too.

Bastion gets a small smile for that as he hugs his grandfather who soon returns the gesture. They then break the hug before the scientist asks.

Sebastion: Well, did you awaken another skill?

Bastion: Hm... I'm starting to see through walls, like X-Ray Vision.

The old man then earns a smirk when he decides to tease his grandson.

Sebastion: Really? Bastion, how many times have you peeked into the girls' bathroom at your school.

The boy in turn blushes at his grandfather's question before speaking in embarrassment.

Bastion: Grandpa!

Sebastion: Ahahaha I'm just kidding with you *laughs*. But it's not a bad idea is it?

Bastion: You're hopeless, sir.

He then crosses his arms as he looks away in embarrassment, but quickly brushes it off.

Bastion: My hearing is also starting to improve.

Sebastion: Hmm... Maybe we should do some training to see how far your powers go. What do you think of-

The scientist then interrupted when his phone started ringing as he took the object before he and the boy realized it was Elizabeth who was calling. The two looked at each other before gulping when Sebastion answered the call.

Sebastion: Hello?

Elizabeth: *over the phone* Hi grandpa, how are you?

Sebastion: I'm fine my granddaughter, thank you.

Elizabeth: *over the phone* Grandpa, is Bastion there with you?

Sebastion and Bastion looked at each other before the boy asked for the phone when his grandfather handed it to him. The boy then took a deep breath before speaking in a calm and amused voice.

Bastion: Hi little sister, in peace?

Elizabeth: *over the phone* In peace? In peace?! You leave school, you don't show up at home, you don't give me the news, you don't answer my calls and still ask if I'm at peace?! Why do you have a cell phone if you don't answer my calls?!

Bastion: Sorry, I wanted to talk to Grandpa and we talked so long I didn't even notice the time pass. And my phone died.

He could soon hear his sister sigh in annoyance on the other end of the line before speaking.

Elizabeth: *over the phone* Just don't scare me like that, okay?

Bastion: All right, I'll try. And don't worry, I'm on my way back.

Elizabeth: *over the phone* Okay, be careful on the way back, okay? Give grandpa a hug.

Bastion: All right, I'll let you. Soon I get home.

He waited for her to end the call when he let out a relieved sigh for not having been grounded when he returned his grandfather's cell phone, which he said holding back a laugh.

Sebastion: That sister of yours certainly takes after her mother *laughs*.

Bastion: Don't tell me. She gets scary when she's mad.

He shuddered at the memories of the scolding he'd already taken from his sister before shaking his head.

Bastion: Well, I better go before he gets even madder.

He then takes a leap as he floats into the air and waves goodbye to Sebastion.

Bastion: Bye Grandpa, I'll be back to visit you soon.

Sebastion: See you my son, I send a hug to your sister and my best wishes to Utonium for me as soon as you meet him.

Bastion: All right, I'll let you.

Without another word he starts to float away before speeding away as he gets farther and farther away before disappearing into the clouds as his grandfather waves goodbye to him.

The next day...

Bastion was seen once again on his way to school while riding his skateboard and listening to the music playing in his headphones and bobbing his head a little to the beat as he passed the citizens of Townsville.

It didn't take long for him to reach his first intersection and as he waited for the light to change so he could cross, something caught his eye.

On the street he can see some police cars parked around. There were also a few people trying to look over and see what was going on.

Deciding he had time to spare, Bastion decided to check it out himself.

He walked down the street and finally reached the yellow police tape. It took a moment before the boy realized it was a bank that looked like it had been robbed.

Police could be seen combing through the wreckage to look for any clues amongst the rubble. Determined to get information, he soon approached one of the people who were there.

Bastion: What happened here?

Random Man: My guess? The Gangreen Gang.

Random Woman: They've been getting more active lately. But I would say this was that cursed Monkey Mojo.

Bastion however, just raised an eyebrow in confusion at that.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Gangreen Gang? Monkey Mojo? I don't know. Are they criminals?

He wondered if the Powerpuffs had dealt with them, but figured they were just busy dealing with the monsters trying to break into the shield that protected the city. But, that just left the city open for criminals to do things like that.

Bastion: (Thoughts) Maybe someone should do something about that. Like a hero. Not Bastion, Liz clearly said not to go all Batman.

He just turned around and continued on his way to school. However, it wasn't long before he stopped in his tracks and looked at the bench once more.

Bastion: (Thoughts) But Grandpa said I got these powers for a reason, he even made me that superhero costume. It will only be this once.

Far away...

Mitch: Was the main bank robbed again? This is the fourth one this month alone.

Buttercup closed her closet after she got what she needed. She looked at her best friend and shrugged.

Buttercup: I keep telling Blossom that we should do something, but she says there are things we should leave to the police. Besides, nobody's getting hurt.

Mitch: Yet. You used to always fight bandits.

Buttercup: I know. And believe me, if it were up to me, I would already have these guys in jail, they would be watching the sun rise square, but...

Mitch: Blossom is in charge.

Buttercup: It sucks! But the mayor said we had to keep to ourselves or we might get in trouble with the law. I'd rather not spend freshman year dressed in orange.

Mitch and Buttercup walked down the hall towards their first class of the day. The whole time, Buttercup thought about the situation.

The mayor, who had been reelected again, told them that they could only deal with the monsters attacking the city. Everything else was out of their hands. They would be vigilantes, which was illegal.

If they acted against the mayor's orders, they could get into serious trouble.

It was a stupid rule and Buttercup hated it to death. Her sisters didn't have a problem with it, though. It gave them more time to be normal teenagers. That was something Buttercup never really understood.

They had powers to fight bandits. They must use their powers to fight bad guys. After all, the bad guys deserve to take a beating.

She looked up and suddenly saw a familiar face with an iconic white scarf around her neck.

It was Bastion who was walking down the hall with his notebook in hand. He was still getting used to his new school.

Mitch: Hey, it's the geeky newbie with the spots on his face.

Buttercup: Yeah. He is Elizabeth's younger brother.

Mitch: Elizabeth? Her father's partner?

The brunette just nodded in response.

Buttercup: See you in class. I'm going to talk to this guy for a bit.

Mitch just walked away without saying anything. He was always a little standoffish when it came to new people. Buttercup remembers how he used to be the school bully when they were kids.

Buttercup walked over to where the gray eyed boy was getting some of his books from his locker. He seemed to be in a hurry as he didn't want to block the hallways, at least not any more than the loving couples.

Buttercup: Hi, Bastion.

The boy turned to find Buttercup standing there. He looked around for a second to make sure she was talking to him when she immediately started to panic as she started to wonder why she had figured out he was the masked one from the other day.

The boy was soon scared by the idea of being discovered so easily on just his second day. Trying to calm himself he took a deep breath before answering.

Bastion: Hi, Buttercup. Good morning.

Buttercup: Did you get lost again?

Bastion: (Thoughts) Oh, she's just trying to help. Great. (Out of Thoughts) Sort of. I know where the English class is, but I wanted to take a walk around.

Buttercup: I can show you at lunch if you want.

The boy then smiled a little at that.

Bastion: I'll love it.

Soon...

Bastion tapped his foot to the beat of his song. He was seen waiting outside the cafeteria for Buttercup as she had asked him to wait for her. She was going to grab a quick snack before going out with him and even offered to bring something for the boy, but he didn't want to bother.

With his eyes closed he barely noticed someone approaching him when he heard a voice calling him.

???: Hey, Mutaito!

Upon opening his eyes he soon recognized the voice as he gained an annoyed look on his face as he looked forward and found Sten along with his group of bullies standing there before taking off his headphones to pay attention to them and speaking in annoyance.

Bastion: What happened now?

Sten: You have the balls to talk to me in that tone. Where's my lunch?

Bastion: How's the conversation going?

The bully laughs about it when he talks mockingly.

Sten: Just guys, he's so thick he doesn't even know what we're talking about.

The other bullies laughed at this as Bastion rolled his eyes, but his action was not lost on Sten who caught him by the collar of his shirt and held him tight.

Sten: Hey newbie, in case you didn't know, newcomers always buy me lunch and I think this is your turn.

What the team's defender did not expect is that the rookie would not be intimidated by him when he responded in the same tone.

Bastion: Do I look like a lunch lady?

Sten growled angrily at that as he tightened his grip on the blue haired boy's tank top collar.

Sten: You have guts I'll admit.

Bastion: And you don't have any dishes to wash, do you? Go bother someone else and leave me alone.

The blond quarterback snarled angrily at this as he raised his fist in the air ready to throw a punch. Bastion upon seeing this regretted throwing fuel on the fire as the last thing he wanted was to get into a fight.

When Sten was about to throw the punch, a voice called out to him.

Blossom: Really, Sten?

Bastion, said quarterback and their friends looked towards the voice to find a girl heading towards them and Bastion couldn't help but get the feeling that she looked familiar.

That's when he found out that she was the other girl who was with Bubbles and Buttercup the other day, the leader of the Powerpuffs. Bastion looked her up and down taking in her appearance.

She is a young woman of about 15 or 16 with pale skin and orange hair that she wears in a ponytail with a red bow and pink eyes. As for her clothes, she wears a white shirt with a yellow heart on the front and has light and dark red sleeves. She wears a blue skirt and pink sneakers.

Bastion was confused to see her there and wondered what she wanted. Sten in turn grinned at the sight of the girl as he released Bastion before placing a hand on his shoulder as if the two were good friends, but this action only made the rookie gain a troubled expression.

Sten: Oh, Blossom. What a joy to see you.

Blossom: What are you doing with him?

Sten: Huh? Ah, the rookie? Nothing, we're just chatting like the good friends we are.

The defender then threw an arm around Bastion to show he meant no harm.

Blossom: Yeah, right. But you're always picking on new students.

Sten: Me? Picking on Mutaito here? Mind you, I'm just hanging out with my new friend here, aren't you Bastion?

The blonde gave the gray-eyed boy a look that said "Tell the truth and I'll shove you in a trash can!" this while tightening his grip around the boy's neck. Bastion decided to just play along as he shrugged.

Bastion: That's it.

Blossom sighed and shook her head.

Blossom: If you say so. But shouldn't you be on the court training for games with the others?

The blonde just gave the girl a flirtatious smile.

Sten: Oh, that's right, good point. But you know, I wouldn't mind missing out if I wanted to spend time with you.

Bastion just rolled his eyes at the flirtation the halfback was giving PowerPuff while yawning in boredom.

Blossom: I don't want to bother. Also, I hope you can win another title in games.

The blonde smiled at her before answering.

Sten: Well, how can I refuse with you asking like that. Let's go guys.

He then released Bastion, but not before whispering something in his ear.

Sten: *whispers* Say something to her, and I'll rip you off.

He slapped the rookie on the back and started to walk away while waving goodbye to Blossom.

Sten: We should go out for a drink sometime, Blossom.

Blossom: I'll think about it.

She and Bastion could see the halfback leap victoriously as he clicked his heels together and cheered at the thought that he might have a date with the girl with the red ribbon. Sten then glanced at Bastion from the corner of his eye with an expression as if he was going to do something before he spoke.

Sten: See you later Mutaito buddy.

Soon he and his friends disappeared into the corridors leaving Bastion and Blossom alone when the boy gave a tired sigh.

Bastion: Just another normal day at school.

Blossom: Sorry, he's not as bad as he seems.

Bastion: I'll try to believe that, but wasn't it a little mean to let him hope to date you?

Blossom: Nahh, let him dream a little.

She then reached out to him as she smiled.

Blossom: My name is Blossom. Blossom Utonium. You are Bastion, aren't you?

The boy just nodded in response and returned the greeting.

Bastion: That's right. I just moved here. I am-

Blossom: Elizabeth's brother. Our father told us about you.

The boy blinked in surprise at that when he asked excitedly.

Bastion: Professor Utonium? Does he still remember me? Does he talk about me?

Blossom: *laughs* More than you might think.

Bastion: Oh my, it's been so long since I've seen the Professor. How is he?

Blossom: He's doing really well, and he was excited to hear you'd come over.

Bastion: Cool, it'll be good to see you after all this time.

Blossom: Good Bastion. Welcome to Townsville. Has anyone ever shown you or-

Buttercup: I saw him first.

The two soon turned to see Buttercup walking out of the cafeteria. She tossed Bastion something he quickly caught easily, a soda.

The brunette then walked over to her sister and placed her hand on her hip.

Buttercup: I'll show him. And unlike you, I'm going to show him more than just the library!

Blossom: I would show him everything too!

The boy glanced between the two as he swore he saw sparks flying from their gazes before they collided with each other. The boy swallowed hard at the thought of the argument that could ensue before he tried to stop it from happening.

Bastion: Uh, Bubbles said you have a different lunch schedule.

Blossom and Buttercup were both surprised to hear their sister's name when they remembered that the perky blonde had mentioned meeting the boy the day before.

Blossom: I have. But I'm free after school just before my practice.

Buttercup: I told you I was going to show him! Also, the school could gain another athlete. Have you seen this guy's strong physique? He would crush the other players!

Blossom: You won't turn him into a brainless jock! He appears to be a wonderful scholar from the excellent grades he has. He should join the Science Club instead of wasting time chasing a ball!

Buttercup: How is it?!

Soon an argument broke out between the two as they discussed who Bastion should go with. Sweat trickled down the back of the boy's neck as he tried to say something.

Bastion: Can I say something?

Blossom & Buttercup: No!

He just stood there watching them continue to argue as he looked at her for a moment wondering what he should do. Realizing they weren't going to end anytime soon, he slowly turned his back and walked away, stepping on his toes so as not to attract attention.

The two girls barely noticed him walk away.

Blossom: Why don't we ask who he'd rather go with?!

Buttercup: All right. Bastion, who would you rather... he's gone.

The two girls finally noticed that the guy in the scarf was already quite far away by this time. They tried to look for him, but in vain.

Buttercup: Cool. You scared him. Congratulations!

Blossom: How is it?! Did I scare him?! You're the one who was trying to convince him to join the soccer team!

Soon the two started arguing again.

At that night...

Bastion wondered what the hell he was doing. At the time he was seen flying towards the crime scene while wearing his hero uniform and mask to hide his identity.

His sister would ground him for life if she knew he was being vigilante vigilante in the middle of the night. He just sighed in relief that she was a heavy sleeper and tired from work, so much so that she slept like a log.

The boy soon returned to the robbed bank. He noted how the place was taped off, but that wouldn't stop him from going inside. The place was empty and nobody was seen around.

The boy wanted to let it go and walk away, but his sense of justice wouldn't let him go that easy. Not to mention he had a feeling this was something much bigger than a simple theft. The Powerpuffs could handle the monsters, but someone had to stop these thefts.

The boy knew it was only a matter of time before someone got hurt, and I felt that if he didn't do something to stop it, then it would be his fault.

The boy's dark uniform would facilitate his entry, but he wanted to make sure he wasn't seen by anyone, he would have to be silent and stealthy like the Dark Knight, his great idol.

After making sure the coast was clear, he quickly crossed the street when he jumped through the open window and landed inside the bank.

Bastion stood up as he looked around and was grateful for his eyesight that allowed him to see in the dark.

Bastion: Alright, what would Batman do? Hmm... first he would look for clues at the crime scene.

He looked around the floor to see that it was covered in debris, at least it was cleaner than earlier. He walked around the building using his many different visions to try to find something and after a short time he finally spotted something on the floor.

Bastion walked over to the object before removing the cinder block on top of it to see a metallic object on the ground. He then got down on one knee before picking up the object and looking at it closely to see that it was a switchblade left behind by the bandits.

Bastion: Bingo! A clue!

Buttercup: How nice isn't it?

Bastion froze when he heard the voice behind him as he quickly turned to see the brunette staring at him as she was dressed in a head to toe black outfit while having a bonnet covering her hair.

The PowerPuff Girl soon saw the object in the masked man hand when she hummed.

Buttercup: Look, you found something.

The boy just looked at the knife and then back at her.

Bastion: I guess you could say that.

Buttercup: Okay. And who the hell are you? Definitely not the police.

The masked man scratched the back of his head wondering how to respond when he spoke in a somber tone.

Bastion: I am... the Batman!

Buttercup just looked at him with a bored face.

Buttercup: But it's not.

Bastion: I'm not, but I've always wanted to say that. To answer his question, I'm just someone wanting to help. You're that green Powerpuff, right? What are you doing here?

Buttercup: Well, for starters, I'm not here as a Powerpuff. As far as my sisters and the mayor are concerned, I'm in bed sleeping like a baby.

Bastion: *sarcastic* That's cool, but that doesn't answer my other question. Why are you here?

The girl just crossed her arms.

Buttercup: Hey young man, I don't think you're in a position to ask questions. That's super illegal, you know right.

Bastion: If so, then why doesn't the mayor know you're here young lady?

The brunette didn't say anything, but just stood there with a face that said he had won the conversation. She finally shrugged her shoulders dismissively.

Buttercup: Whatever. You found a switchblade. What are you going to do now, Mr. Am I Someone Wanting to Help?

The masked man ignored her little joke as he lifted the knife and examined it closely and soon noticed that it still had fingerprints, which looked strangely different. The letters S.D.I. could be seen engraved on the handle of the knife.

Bastion: Familiar to you?

The boy soon showed the sculpture to Buttercup who rubbed his chin before snapping his fingers.

Buttercup: As a matter of fact it is. Ever heard of the Gang Gangreen?

Bastion: I heard about them earlier today.

Buttercup: The second in command is Snake, but his name is Sanford D Ingleberry.

Bastion: Hmm...

Buttercup: I think it's his switchblade.

Bastion nodded in response as he turned his back on the brunette and started to walk away, but not before she grabbed his shoulder and stopped him from continuing making him look at him out of the corner of his eye.

Buttercup: Where do you think you're going?

Bastion: It's not obvious, I'll bring them to justice.

Buttercup: Alone?

The masked man shrugged.

Bastion: I can handle it. You've got monsters and stuff to deal with.

Buttercup: But not tonight.

She walked in front of him as she held her hand out to him suggesting they do it together. The masked man stared at her for a moment before speaking.

Bastion: I work alone.

Buttercup: And how are you going to do that? You don't even know where to find them. Not to mention I'm tired of sitting still all the time. Until my sisters find out I'm doing this, I'm going to give those green-skinned idiots a good beating.

They waited for the boy's response when he got tired of holding out his hand when he caught his eye.

Buttercup: Hey. Deal done or not? My arm is tired.

Bastion: *weary sigh* Very well. But just this once.

Buttercup: All right. Partners for the night. Now let's go. We are wasting time.

Soon...

South side of Townsville, the place to get into trouble. Bastion remembered his grandfather and sister telling him to stay away from this place, as it was considered the most dangerous place in town, the place where only the tough and the lifeless went.

The two young men walked through the streets with their heads down and their hands in their pockets so as not to attract the attention of those who were still on the streets. The boy was surprised to hear the sound of glass shattering along with the sound of gunshots, bombs and sirens echoing in the distance.

Bastion: Lively place. It has always been like that?

Buttercup: I guess. At least, as far as I remember. It makes me laugh sometimes. I used to come here when I escaped at night.

The masked man just looked at him with an incredulous expression while blinking a few times, seeing the mysterious boy's face made the brunette laugh a little upon seeing his expression.

Buttercup: Yeahh. The tough green one ran away from home sometimes. How strange, right?

She lowered her head and looked away from him. Bastion soon realized that the subject seemed touchy for her, but thought maybe trying to talk about it would help when he asked.

Bastion: You want to talk about it?

The brunette was taken aback by the boy's response, as she expected him to laugh at her, make fun of her or ask why she would do that, even press her for answers, but that never came. Instead the boy sounded sincere in his tone and willing to hear her tell her story.

Buttercup: I don't think so... Just... forget what I said, okay?

Not wanting to bother her, the boy just nodded in response.

A short time later the two were in front of an old warehouse. Bastion soon used his X-Ray Vision when he saw that there were some people inside or at least that's what it looked like, he soon noticed that they had different heights and body builds.

The boy took a step towards the warehouse, but soon stopped in his tracks when the brunette reached out to stop him.

Buttercup: I know these guys. Let me speak.

Bastion said nothing and decided to just obey. The girl then reached out and pushed the door before entering.

The two entered the warehouse and spotted the five figures there. Bastion soon noticed that they all had green skin, which he found odd, but decided to ignore.

Buttercup: Wake up guys!

She grabbed a nearby barrel and threw it across the room. It hit the other wall hard, which made a loud, rumbling sound that echoed through the makeshift hiding place.

Upon hearing the noise the five boys jumped up while looking around confused with what was happening.

Ace: Who's there?!

He looked around frantically when he saw Buttercup accompanied by someone he didn't know. He groaned and signaled his boys away as he started to approach the Powerpuff while smiling.

Ace: Buttercup! How long girl. What to our humble place?

The brunette just threw the knife towards her. The object landed on the ground and skidded until it hit the green boy's shoe who slowly looked back at Snake which made him lower his head.

Ace: Right. And where did you find it?

Bastion: In the bank the five of you robbed.

Ace just chuckled as he combed his hair back with one hand.

Ace: You can't prove it.

Big Billy: That's it! You can't prove anything!

Grubber then sticks his tongue out at them while making faces.

Bastion looked unimpressed at Buttercup with an expression that asked if these guys were even real.

Buttercup: Trust me, I know what you're thinking.

She then took a step forward.

Buttercup: Look here, this ends two ways. Either you come peacefully, or we can finally kick your asses to the nearest police station. It's your choice. Personally, I hope you choose the latter.

The gang members just laughed at her. They all started to surround the two with their eyes scanning the masked man from head to toe.

Ace: I think you forgot something, girl. This is our side of town. That means you're in our territory.

Snake: We're going to teach you a lesson! But who is this masked man anyway?

Buttercup: He's.....

She leaned in and whispered to Bastion.

Buttercup: *whispers* Uh, what should I call you?

Bastion: I haven't thought of a name yet, but it's not important right now.

Bastion felt her body react before she even knew what was happening. He leaned to the left just as Arturo tried to jump him.

The masked man just grabbed the smallest limb effortlessly before spinning to throw it straight at Grubber.

Buttercup was surprised by the reflexes her new partner had, but she didn't have time to be surprised. Big Billy pounced on her and knocked her to the ground.

Bastion realized that the quintet were still human despite their green appearance and therefore he couldn't use his super powers at full strength against them or he would seriously hurt them.

Then, when Snake went to stab him with his knife, Bastion dodged the blow before landing a punch in his face and before the green man could react, the masked man leaped in the air before hitting him with a double kick. at chest height that made him step back in a daze.

Buttercup picked Big Billy up and threw him across the room. She then flew straight at him and punched him in the jaw.

Bastion in turn ducked when Ace almost hit him with a knife, he then tripped the gang leader who soon fell to the ground dropping his sharp weapon. Ace groaned as he fell and before he could ask to get up Bastion raised his leg in the air before coming down hard and executing an ax kick to the green man's stomach.

Ace groaned in pain from the blow before passing out right where he was. The masked boy then turned as he carried Ace and threw him into a pile along with his henchmen. Buttercup soon brought Big Billy to the pile, when Bastion then grabbed a chain lying in a corner and used it to tie up the thieves.

Buttercup: Check it out. Looks like he really knows how to take care of himself. Not bad, Masked Boy.

The boy just gave the brunette an odd look at the name he'd been given as Buttercup held up her hands in defense.

Buttercup: What? You didn't tell me your name.

Bastion: I'll think of something later.

Soon...

Cops soon arrived and escorted the gang out of the warehouse and into their cars. After calling an anonymous tip, the cops came right away.

Bastion and Buttercup watched from atop a building as the moon shone brightly behind them.

Buttercup: Check it out. Your first patrol. How it was?

Bastion: First patrol? Who said?

The two looked at each other at that and she realized that she didn't know anything about the mysterious masked man she had met, not even her name. He, however, doubted that she could find out who he was.

Buttercup: So, are you used to this?

Bastion: In a way.

He shrugged as he remembered the times he had saved some people, and had gained some experience from it, but in his old home.

Buttercup: How about we work together?

Bastion: Together?

Buttercup: Sure, duh. I hate waiting for monsters to spawn and there's so much to do around here. I got tired of waiting for my sisters. I wanna beat up some bad guys and show 'em this is my town!

She punched his palm and the guy could feel the intensity of it and that she was serious about this. But being her partner would be risky for him, because if she found out who he was it would get him in serious trouble. However, it would be good for him to get help from someone.

Not to mention that the girl also seemed to care about doing the right thing instead of waiting for the cops, after all, people needed someone to fight for them, someone to fight for good, superheroes.

Bastion: It's cool. We are partners then. At least at night.

Buttercup: The night sounds good. My sisters usually go to bed very early.

The two teens shook hands, solidifying their new partnership, before looking back at the cops leading the Gang Gangreen away.

The masked man just waved goodbye to Buttercup before jumping off the building and flying away as the brunette watched him disappear into the sky while thinking about her mysterious crime-fighting partner.
