Rochelle got ready with the help of a few maids. It took all of her to wear her sister's dress. It was a beautiful white dress with silver patterns that stretched to her feet.
It was from her sister's brand. A dress that she could never afford before.
Now, she had the chance to wear it. Rochelle couldn't even muster a smile on her face. She glanced at the mirror, her sister's face was in the mirror but it wasn't Raya.
She could never be Raya and quite frankly she didn't believe she was worthy to walk in Raya's shoes.
It was clear from the day they came into the world that she was the black sheep of the family. For a long time, she had considered herself unlucky and wished for her sister's life.
With that life staring back at her in the mirror, her heart ached. It made her sad to see the person that she hated for so long in her reflection.
Her face reminded her of Raya. The maid did her makeup, it was light as Raya had always preferred it to be.
They helped her with her shoes and jewelry and styled her hair in a bun.
Rochelle closed her eyes, the pain of losing Raya was still sinking in and it was suffocating.
"We should head down for dinner ma'am," one of the maids uttered to her.
Rochelle looked at the picture of Raya smiling on the wall. It sounded crazy but she wished that her sister was there with her, that Raya didn't leave her.
She missed Raya's smile, her talk, and laughter. Nothing was the same now that she was gone. It was hard for Rochelle to forget her when she was forced to live her life.
"I can never be you," she confessed. "I don't know why you thought I could but I know I can't," she added.
"Excuse us," the maids let out excusing themselves. They figured that she would prefer to talk alone.
Rochelle didn't pay them any heed. Her mind was drawn to her sister's picture on the wall.
If someone gas told her a few days ago that she would look at her sister's picture without being hurt and disgusted then she wouldn't have believed it.
Who would have thought that life could change so much? In such little time, she forgot all her anger and hate. Being replaced by guilt and regret.
But it was too late to say sorry. She had let her sister down in many ways than she would ever be able to count. She was guilty of being a bad person.
"I have no idea why you ever loved me," she spoke out in tears.
She wasn't worth the sacrifice that Raya made for her to live. She believed that the world was better off with the original national fairy and not a monster like her.
Rochelle's attention on the picture prevented her from noticing Ander walking into the room. The man took steady strides into the room with one hand in his pocket.
He watched Rochelle and followed the train of the girl's sight. He caught sight of Raya's picture.
Ander could vividly recall the day that the picture was taken. He was standing behind the camera while snapping the picture.
It was on their second date, one of the most beautiful times of his life.
He missed his wife more than life. She was gone, to a place where he couldn't reach her even if he wished to. His entire works had become black and white after her death.
And he knew who to blame for everything. Rochelle.
Rochelle dazed into the photo. It was as though she could see herself as Raya. The smile, with the sun hitting her skin and the wind on her hair. While holding her waist to pose for the picture.
"A minute with you is worth more than a luxurious vocation," Rochelle let out.
Ander shot his gaze at her. His eyes were wide with shock, those were the exact words that Raya had uttered to him that day.
"What did you say?" He asked to make certain that he heard her well.
"I would choose you over all the luxury in the world," Rochelle said looking at him. "Not because I don't like luxuries, but because you are my world," she added.
Ander's lips parted slightly. He was tongue-tied. Rochelle didn't just look like his wife at that moment, she sounded just like Raya.
"We should head for dinner hun, the family must be waiting," Rochelle uttered and reached out her hand to hold his.
Ander froze, he felt like he was looking at Raya in the flesh. His wife was dead and she wasn't so close to her sister to have told the girl personal things about her life.
It shocked him to hear Raya's voice and her words in Rochelle. He didn't want to believe it, he opened his mouth to scold Rochelle for pulling a prank with him.
"It is us.." Rochelle said and reached out a first for him.
Ander found his knees getting weaker. "Against the world," he added and gave Rochelle the first bump.
It was their signature bump. A way of reminding each other that they will always support one another. It was only theirs, no one apart from them was aware of it.
Only Raya could have known that. Ander was confused, lost, and in despair. He was certain that he was staring at Rochelle but wasn't sure why it felt like she was Raya.
"I love you, hun," Rochelle spoke out. She took a step forward and wrapped her hands around Ander.
She held him tightly in a hug and closed her eyes reminiscing in the hug.
A lot of things ran through Ander's mind at that moment. He was clueless about how to react to everything that was happening. It was unlike him to not be sure and that was how he felt.
