Chapter 111: New York War (Part 4)

Waddling on the street with a scepter in her hand, Doreen is trying to find a police or hero to give back the scepter she took. She turns to her only friend who is sitting on top of her head. 

"Tippy toes, there isn't anyone around," She said fearfully as she gripped the scepter tight. No humans are around. Aliens are plenty. The gliders are flying over her, making her hide inside a trash can. 

She heard a thundering sound from above. A hulkish green monster and a blondie in a cape are fighting a big fish over her.

Hulk smashes the armor on the Leviathan's body, and Thor blasted the beast with his thunder, making it fly during a convulsion. The leviathan hit the top of a building in its path, making debris fall to the street. It falls near the trashcan containing the little rodents. 

Luckily none of the big debris fell directly on top of the trashcan, only nearby it. White dust can be seen on Doreen's brown hair from the debris. 

"Tippy-toes, that almost hit us. We can't stay here," She whispered to the squirrel. Tippy toes make some sound, and suddenly his attention is focused somewhere else. He jumped outside the trashcan to its edge. 

"What do you see?" Doreen asks as she pops her head out of the trashcan to peek. 

Nearby, a reporter is reporting the situation of the war by zooming in on the damage the leviathan causes. The camera is recording the widening cracks on the building site that will make 2 whole floors of the building topside, slides to the ground.

"As we can see, the Hulk is working together with the caped man that calls himself The God of Thunder, Thor,  fighting the creatures. When will the army get here, and will we be safe from the invasion?" Reporter April O'Neil is covering the battle live at the scene.

Her face is dusty, and her hair is disheveled, but she continues working to record the scenes of the war and show them to the people. She can do it because a man with a black wing has cleaned up the area there. Otherwise, she will still report it at the edge of the perimeter.   

Doreen's eyes brighten up as she sees April. "An adult Tippy-toes, Nice JOB," She said excitedly. She crawls out of the trashcan, falling headfirst to the street pavement as the trashcan is taller than her. She is out, but…

"Tippy toes, help… the glowing stick is stuck," She said as she tried to pull the scepter out of the trashcan. The blade of the scepter is stuck on the trashcan's bottom. Her cheeks puffed out and become red as she tries to pull the heavy scepter. 

The cracks in the building are worsening. The whole topside is sliding…into Doreen's area below it!

April is pointing to the broken building that is going to fall. Then she realizes it.

"Is that…a child?" April asks in disbelief, then she turns anxious and fearful.

"GET OUT OF THERE!!!" She throws her microphone away and runs toward the unaware child. The building can't hold it any longer. The topside slides off, freefalling 100 meters before it hits the ground…and crushes the child underneath it. 

She couldn't make it. She is too far away. "NOOOO," April screams in despair. That is just a small child. A toddler even. The building is only 10 meters away from crushing the child. No one could save her now. 

A minute before. 

Hulk and Thor finish off the leviathan one street over. Kai is flying over them, searching for the scepter. 

"Hulk, have you seen the glowing stick Loki had?" Kai asks Hulk as he hovers next to him.

"Go away Birdman," Hulk said as he swatted his hand around slowly. His being able to talk surprised Thor. Can the Hulk talk all this time? Why did he get hit by the Hulk before without warning? Thor narrowed his eyes at the duo. 

"Don't say that Hulk, aren't we friends?" Kai said without fear, disarming the Hulk's hostility toward him. Hulk thought the Birdman had tricked him before this and made him turn into puny Banner again. 

"Friend?" Hulk said slowly. 

"Yes, we share a meal together. We are now friends," Kai said in a comforting voice. The Hulk almost grinned and hugged Birdman, but now is not the time. He turns his face angry again to fight. Kai patted the creature's head as he hover, annoying Hulk.

He is leaving to find the scepter, when Thor speaks. 

"Look, the building is falling." Thor is pointing at the building where he crashed the leviathan earlier. Kai looks at it with his eagle eye. That is when he saw it. 

"THERE'S A CHILD THERE!" Kai yelled and flew at a supersonic speed to grab the child. Thor and Hulk heard it and they too are going to the falling building. Alas, all of them are too far away. 

Mjolnir speed, Hulk jump, Kai's wings… All of this is useless. The small Doreen's fate is sealed. 

"No..no..no no no no no no no no no no no no no no NOOOO," Kai yelled as he got closer. He couldn't even cut the building as the debris will still kill the child. He ran out of options, but he didn't slow down. 

His soul resonated with his cry, as if they were asking him what he needed.

"More speed,"

His black wing is glowing. His speed increases. 

"More…Speed!!"

Thor notices something wrong with Kai. His life force is burning. Kai is like the flame of a candle. Almost burned up. Being a god, he can sense the changes inside someone's soul.

Kai's soul is asking him what he wants. He answered. He wants to protect. His wings are glowing and appear bigger… brighter…whiter?

The hundreds of tons of building topside are falling onto Doreen. Mr. Tippy-toes widened his eyes. Doreen is still unaware of the huge building falling on top of her. 

"Huh?" She looks at the darkening sky and sees her reflection from the falling building window. Her small reflection is becoming bigger, coming toward her. She didn't even manage to blink as it came. She didn't even recognize the fact that she would die.

The angel is coming for her. To bring her into heaven. Where she can eat until her stomach bursts. Where she didn't have to go through the trash to scavenge for her meal when her foster parent abandoned her, saying she is a freak for having a tail. 

The angel hugs her tightly inside his arm and protects her. She closes her eyes as she feels his gentle warmth, soothing her. She closes her eyes….

*BOOM-Crash* The building falls to the ground. The reporter, April, falls to her knees. 

"NO!" Thor yelled as he saw the humans being crushed by the building. He swung his mighty hammer toward the fallen building. "KAIII!!" Thor screamed as he hammered the crashed building. 

"FRIEND!!" Hulk yelled. He swung his fist with all of his might. "HULK SMASH!" He punches the fallen building. Hulk and Thor attacked the building at the same time. Cracks appeared all over the fallen building. Hulk's full strength added to Thor's full strength causes the fallen building to shatter into pieces. 

The duo is stunned. April, who is nearby, gasped. The cameraman zoomed in, broadcasting the scene he saw to millions of viewers who were watching all over the world. The scene is imprinted on their mind, no matter the region, the race, or the religion.

Skye is watching the war footage in California with her phone. "Dad?" She muttered softly as she recognized the familiar back... Only now the back is bloody, full of injuries and bruises, and the suit the man is wearing is ripped into pieces from the back. 

The footage is showing the sight of a man with angelic wings and white hair, crouching as he is protecting a small child in his arms.

Kai looks at the child with a smile on his face. He is extremely glad he made it. 

"Are you okay?" Kai asks the small child. Doreen looks closely at the angel's face. Her tears started to fall. 

"Don't cry. You're safe now," Kai wipes off the falling tears with his finger, leaving bloody traces on her face as his finger is injured. A drop of blood from Kai's head drips into the child's face. She cried louder as she gripped Kai's clothes tightly. 

Thor wants to get mad at Kai. 'Why did you burn your life? Is it worth it? Do you want to die?' 

There are a lot of questions Thor wanted to ask. But when he saw Kai's smiling face as he saved the child, his question disappeared. He knew. Kai will gladly give his life away if he can save other people. 

The chitauri isn't giving them a moment to self-actualize. The gliders are targeting the injured one. Want to kill the most troublesome guy quickly as he is standing still right now. 

"You think I will let you?" Thor said with a hint of anger. It's been a while since he felt powerless. Compared to the anger of the one next to him, he is a tiny fire, while the other one is a raging fire. 

"FRIEND GOT HURT," Hulk gritted his teeth. His eyes are staring at the chitauri in hate. The chitauri gliders are presenting themself on a silver platter, for the duo to use to let out their anger. 

Thor and Hulk are on a mission to destroy the gliders. At this moment, Kai is checking out his ascension. He jumped into the Epic stage!

Kai Vera (Epic Stage)

Life Soul: Guardian Angel Wings.

It's a protection-type life soul. He is very satisfied with this. His strength jumped to twice his previous one when he ascended. He can now carry 50 tons of strength, half of that of Thor and Hulk. He will check out the rest of his statistics later on.

"What's your name?" Kai asked the child crying in his arms. 

"D-Doreen," she replied as she calmed herself down, or tried to. The bad alien is coming. She needs to bring the angel to safety. 

Kai smiles at her and takes out a lollipop from his inner suit pocket. "Doreen, I will give you this candy if you stop crying. I will take you to safety, okay?" 

He stands and picks up the child in his arms. He wants to fly away, but his attention is diverted to the crushed trash can near the child. 

"Wait, is that?" Kai asks excitedly. 

"The glowing stick!" Doreen interjected. He found it. He looks at the child after he finds it. The child is his lucky charm. He ascended to the Epic stage that he felt impossible to do, and he found the key to ending the war.

He is injured, with a deep gash on his back, broken ribs, broken finger, broken scapula, a cracked skull, pulled groin, and all, but nothing too serious. He summoned the corpse vine, and it slithered to his arm. It will heal him as he gets away from there. 

"I found the scepter," Kai said to the communication line as he flew using his angel wing with Doreen and a small squirrel in his arm. He didn't realize that his hair had all turned white when he used the Epic stage life soul. 

"Good, Natasha will wait for you at the tower," Ryan said in a weak voice. Finally, the war can end. 

…

On the other side of the wormhole. On the surface of a desolate planet. 

"Who are you?" Supergiant asks Dawn who is facing her. Her 50 brass-armored warriors are trying to encircle Dawn. 

" I am just a concerned party," Dawn said as he held his staff.

"No, you're DAWN EVERSTAR," Hela scolded in Dawn's ear.

"Strange…you can relax when you're facing me," Supergiant said in awe. Her omnipathy had been trying to control Dawn from the moment they were facing each other, but it failed.

"I can't enter your mind," Supergiant becomes more vigilant. She can possess a mass number of people, making them subservient to her. Like the super-powered squared she hand-picked from the planets the chitauri conquered. The ones who are with her right now. 

"You know, there is already someone here. Maximum occupancy had been reached," Dawn said in a playful tone. 

"Damn right," Hela said. Dawn shakes his head at the influenced-by-the-children Hela. How did the glorious emo queen turn to this? "I didn't mean you." 

"You should," Hela said sternly. 

Supergiant is stunned. 'He is talking to himself?' Finally someone even crazier than she is.

"Oh no, I am not talking to myself," Dawn said suddenly, making Supergiant more vigilant. He didn't read her mind. He just guessed it.

"Then who are you talking to?" 

"The Goddess of Death. She seems to like you," Dawn said eerily. He didn't lie. Hela really likes Supergiant style. Especially her emo-nun looks. 

"Kill him," Supergiant ordered her super-powered squad. 

An insect-looking humanoid spits out an acid spray toward Dawn. A red alien with four arms and four eyes is jumping toward the elf and is trying to punch his head with tremendous strength. A yellow alien with a cape on its back is shooting a laser beam from one eye toward the man in armor.

"It seems she didn't trust you, my king," Dawn said before he cast an earthen wall to block the acid, redirect the vector on the red alien to the others, and deflected the laser beam to Supergiant. 

The beam passes through Supergiant's body as she becomes intangible. Supergiant and Dawn didn't even speak to each other initially and concentrated hard to kill one another. 

A few mole-like aliens dig into the ground below. 

[Tier 4 Magic: Poison Ivy] 

With the wave of his staff, poisonous roots dig deeper into the earth, strangling the mole's inside. 

Ten flying-type aliens are attacking him from above, but Dawn teleports away from his initial position. 

"Teleporters. I hate Teleporters," Supergiant said as she controlled the others to attack Dawn at the same time. 

"That's hurtful," Dawn said as he slammed his staff on the ground. A hexagonal magic circle opened from his staff, circling him. 

[Tier 5 Magic: Fusion] 

"This is my first time using it. I am excited," He said as he cast two tiers 4 magic to be added into the mix. 

[Tier 4: Magic Missile Barrage] 

[Tier 4: Hydra] 

Supergiant saw a starry sky come out from behind Dawn. 

"No, that's plasma," She said, correcting herself. 

"Wrong, this is magic," Dawn said mockingly. 

One magic missile shoots itself at the flying humanoid. Unexpectedly, the humanoid managed to split it in half. 

"That is all?" Supergiant mocked. 

"Wait for it…." Dawn said as he looked at the split magic missiles. The missile then turned into two and redirected itself to the humanoid it attacked before. 

"It worked," Dawn said with a smile on his face. Then, he releases all of the missiles to the rest of the army. It attacked from all sides and killed the weaker members of the army. The stronger ones managed to block or split the magic missiles, but that caused them more trouble. 

"Fine… I'll do it myself," Supergiant said as a magic missile phased from her body. Being a psionic entity, she is invulnerable to physical damage. Her intangibility helps her with energy damage. Unless Dawn managed to hit her with both at the same time, he won't be able to hurt her. 

She phased right next to him and swung her fist toward him. He teleported away to her back and smacked her head with his staff. But it didn't cause any damage. 

She turns in a blink of an eye with her enhanced speed and kicks Dawn with her heels. He blocked it with the staff and slid on the ground a few meters back. 

"You can't defeat me, join me," Supergiant said with a gritty voice. 

Dawn recollected himself. "You know, intangibility and invulnerability are good and all, but there must be a limit to it. Otherwise, you won't be under someone else," Dawn hypothesized. 

"YOU DARE SPEAK HIS NAME?" Supergiant said angrily. He dares to spew blasphemous words against her lord? 

Dawn silently stared at her. "I didn't?" 

Supergiant didn't care. She is violently attacking Dawn. 

"Close combat isn't my thing," Dawn said as he apparated multiple times to get away from the relentless attack. The rest of her army is now dead, but she didn't care about it. 

While fighting, he is conversing telepathically with Ryan and Kai. 

Dawn: Hey, your ascending to epic is great. But must you injure yourself like that? 

Supergiant isn't stopping. Dawn isn't just fighting her, but he is also analyzing her every move and existence. After Kai ascended, he feels something different in his soul as he is fighting. 

It feels like he can break through to another tier. Dawn teleported 1000 km away from the location, leaving Supergiant alone on the battlefield. She screamed madly, as the mind that she was looking forward to devouring is lost from her eyes. 

Dawn takes out 100 B-grade mana crystals to substitute the magic Tower. He heard the scream from afar, as Supergiant was running toward him? 

"That bitch is relentless," Hela said. "What are you doing anyway?" 

"Upgrading," Dawn said. It's fairly easy for him to ascend as he has the highest grade mana affinity. Even if Kai's ascension didn't happen, he will still be upgraded into the next tier. 

"Tier 6. Here I come. But before that," He takes a mana crystal and he cast a spell for his protection. If he is attacked during the ascension, then it will fail. 

"Why don't you do it somewhere safe? Are you not afraid?" Hela asks. 

"Sometimes, it's electrifying to be afraid. It means you're out of your comfort zone," Dawn said as he summoned [DeusExMachina] to protect him. 

After that, he sits in a meditation pose and absorbs the mana crystal into the mana ring around his heart. Suddenly, he felt a pulse in his mind. Something is invading! 

" urgh, Ryan why the f… did you mess with the Kamar Taj business…" Dawn gritted his teeth. Blood can be seen coming out of his mouth. He needs to do it soon. Right now!

Not only did he have the chance, but he now needs to do it to help Ryan who is in another dimension on earth. 

On Earth, Stark Tower roof. Natasha is waiting for Kai to get there with the scepter. 

Kai in his Epic form is flying there faster than he used to when he used the black wing from the hippogriff. He took only a minute to arrive. 

His body is healing quickly. There isn't a need to make a drama of it right? 

"Kai, are you okay?" Natasha asks the lone Kai. As Ryan is acting as the command center, he does tell the rest that Kai is injured. He didn't want them to find out later in the news. 

Kai smiles softly at Natasha. He is alone now, he makes a pit stop at the shelter and puts Doreen there. 

"I am oka—" Kai kneeled on the ground and his Epic form disappeared. Natasha is stunned at the sight. Kai spits out blood and coughs violently. His eyes are bloodshot from the drawback of his situation. 

The command center right now is extremely busy. Aside from the chitauri legion sieging Ryan's penthouse, the attacks on every blockage are worsening. Gwen and the others are very busy at the shelter, trying to protect it. 

Hulk is besieged by 70 gliders, and he is down. Tony isn't anywhere to be seen, Captain and Barton are holding down the Fort. Thor is hunting leviathans when Ryan instructs him to go help Hulk. 

But then, all the commands stop. The shadow clones in the command center a.k.a Ryan's house poofed into white smoke and disappeared. 

"Ryan, what happened?" Gwen asks urgently. He suddenly stopped. All of the New York fighters are confused. 

"Natasha, close the portal… " Suddenly Natasha got an order from Ryan using the main line. His voice is raspy and extremely weak. 

Natasha is trying to hold Kai to stand back up, but he brushes her hand away. 

"Close it," Kai said to Natasha. She nods and grabs the scepter. Piercing the veil of the energy shield by the tesseract, she said to the communication line. 

"I can close it." She said excitedly. She wants to end it now to help Kai. She needs to bring him to the hospital.

"Do it," Steve said. The shelter is under heavy siege. He is tanking the shots while Bryan and the others are returning fire. This needs to end. Now! 

Tony suddenly appeared on the line, "Wait,"

"Tony these things are still coming," Captain America said while huffing breaths. 

"I got a nuke coming in," Tony said, surprising the others.
