Chef Claude

Claude's relationship with Amber is still complicated but at least now they talk. Well, you can't say that questioning and answering is something which can be classified as conversation but at the very least it's better than before.

Nowadays, Amber stays out of the village most of the time for her work. She is rarely home or whenever she is she does a routine check-up of villagers and soldiers. She heals them at a normal price.

Due to this Claude, Eren and Ares had to eat the food of the dormitory. Even though Claude can cook Ares didn't allow him as it reduces the time for his training. Still sometimes Claude cooks for the soldiers as well as his family. Everyone in the dormitory waits with excitement and anticipation for Claude's cooking due to its taste.

Claude was on his way to the dormitory today. In just two days his 10th birthday is going to come. There won't be any particular celebration except good food and gifts. After all no one wants to celebrate something without Ellen and even if they decided to celebrate they will always be reminded of Ellen due to energetic nature.

The head knight's family also noticed something. They are talking less and less with each other after Ellen's death. Claude thought that this was just his imagination or the atmosphere is still gloomy after Ellen's death but recently he has noticed that Ellen worked like a bridge which forced them to connect. Now without her, he and the others focus only on the things they are doing. They say right: A single missing piece destroys the whole puzzle. Claude and his family's case is somewhat similar.

Currently Claude had reached the dormitory to make dinner for everyone. Eren and Ares were also present in the dormitory. It was a good atmosphere, everyone was talking about simple and silly things while waiting for the food to be prepared. Ares was talking with other master ranks about the ranking system while Eren was doing his routine training but seeing that Claude had finally come, he went to freshen up by taking a bath and changing clothes.

Claude went towards the direction of the dormitory kitchen where kitchen staff had prepared ingredients for Claude to use in his cooking. Today he is going to make a Japanese meat curry and rice for the main dish and tarte tatin for the sweet dish with the Apple like fruit given to them by the villagers.

Claude recognised that except for alcohol and meat most of the food of this world were either bland or spicy. This didn't fit in Claude's dictionary of aesthetics. Even in his past life the reason why Claude studied hard was to get a good job and satisfy what he called his aesthetic buds.

Claude wants to make many more dishes like pasta, hamburger, pizza etc. but for now he has not found many ingredients which are required to make these dishes. Even though this world and its form factor is completely different from his past world, most of the natural resources are the same or evolved. That's why the only thing that is a problem for Claude is that either they are not founded or they are named differently.

Claude does this to not become a workaholic and just keep getting stronger. As Claude's father said and did, there is no point of strength that doesn't give you freedom and there's no point of freedom if you don't understand its true meaning and enjoy it.

The smell of the curry spread across the whole dormitory and everyone glanced at the direction of the kitchen from time to time. Waiting with anticipation. After all, being a knight or swordsman does not give you food with good taste, the food only gives you enough nutrients. Delicious food is a luxury good enough to make the soldiers of other villages not even a Count's soldiers jealous.

" Line up, food is ready." A member of the kitchen staff shouted.

All the soldiers stopped what they were doing and went to line up. Claude came out from the backside along with some of the kitchen staff members who were carrying the food for the saint rank and master rank. After all, everything has its own privileges. You can't compare master ranks and a saint rank with normal soldiers. They have their own privileges.

Claude sat beside Eren on a long table with nine chairs in the lawn of the dormitory. Ares sat on the head seat while the other chairs were occupied by 6 master ranks.

Usually an above average village has one or two master ranks at most but Venia had six master ranks. Four out of these six master ranks were loyal only to Ares. They have been following him since childhood and Ares has treated them fairly and helps them whenever necessary. They have a lot of loyalty towards Ares to the point they even shifted to this backwaters village.

" Food made by young master Claude is even more delicious than my wife who is already 40 years old." One of the master ranks said, making everyone on the table laugh.

" Your magic test is going to happen soon isn't it ?" Eren asked, gulping a spoon full of curry and rice.

" Yes, " Claude replied casually.

" My test happened in the viscounts capital. There the tester asked me about my skills and rank or tier. When I told him everything about me he told me that I have a chance of entering the imperial academy." Eren said and stared at Claude. Checking for a reaction.

" Mm, good for you." Claude replied casually.

" Heh~, you know right that if I get into the imperial academy, you also have to get admitted to the imperial academy." Eren said with a smirk over his brother's indifference. Even though Claude is feigning ignorance inside he is happy for him. Claude had become a lot more reserved after Ellen's death but he can't fool his brother who he has spent most of his time with.

" I am going a bit early but I am going to wait for you. Don't slack off and keep training or else I am going to surpass you." Eren said with a smile. Claude was confused as to why his brother is talking about something which is going to take place after at least two years but decided to play along.

" I don't slack off. I just have too much on my plate." Claude said with a pout.
