The North

" The Monsters have started moving." Ares suddenly said. Everyone on the table went silent.

" What do you mean by that ?" Eren asked.

" Claude, you know about the environment of the north right ? Can you explain a bit." Ares said annoyed by explaining the same thing again and again.

" The Northern territory of the Buratti continent is big compared to other parts of the continent but that doesn't imply it is strong. The northern territory's most land is covered by high mountains. That's why the clouds get trapped in the region and can't freely move leading to constant winter. Even the reason why rain falls in the northern territory is because during summer the condensation temperature drops—" Before he can continue Ares said :-

" Claude !! Say in a way we can understand."

When Claude looked at Ares, he had an expression which told others that he didn't get a single word. Others' expressions were much worse. Eren along with the 6 master ranks had a blank face as if Claude was talking about rocket science.

" Haah, in short the many and the high mountains are the reason why there is snowy winter in the north and when the other countries are facing summer the northern territory has a rainy season." Even though they wanted to ask how this phenomenon occurs only in the North, from the above explanation it was clearly difficult to understand. That's why they simply nodded in understanding.

" We humans can't live in such low temperatures on the high mountains. That's why we have occupied land which is less lower in temperature." He continued.

" In a continent populated by humanoid species. Other races find it hard to live, especially monsters. Beasts don't allow them inside the forest while humans don't allow them near their settlements. In such a continent most of the monsters find their homes in the north as they are not much affected by the coldness. But even then they have many troubles that's why they migrate during the rainy season of the north." Claude finally concluded while everyone nodded except Eren who just stared at him with a frown.

" What ?" Claude asked

" You would have avoided such a long explanation if you would have just said the last sentence." Eren snorted

" Even if I would have only said the last sentence you still would have asked me anyway. That's why I explained it beforehand." Claude retorted.

They kept bickering like little kids while the others looked at them with warm expressions. They are the only happiness in this dark and gloomy dormitory. Nowadays they don't have that atmosphere around them due to Ellen's death but after seeing them like this and acting like the kids they are, they felt a warm feeling growing inside them.

" Usually the monsters don't attack human settlements during their migration but we still have to be on guard. After all, even though they don't attack us, the villagers will still be worried. By seeing us guarding the village more than usual they will feel relieved." Ares explained the reason why he brought that topic with a smile.

The air became tense and only some of the rookies didn't know why everyone was so serious. They have not seen how dangerous these monster races are compared to tier 1 or 2 beasts.

" Today I have also made a sweet dish, please bring them out." Claude finally decided to break the silence and tense atmosphere by saying more food is there.

The tension changed into cheers of joy as they are not going to eat just one but two different dishes in the same day. More than that it is a sweet dish, everyone became even more excited. There are not many sweet dishes in this world as the sugar produced is rare and expensive as it gets transported from the eastern territory which is where the elven kingdom is. Only nobles have enough money to buy sugar. Commoners use fruit juices instead of sugar while commoners don't eat sweets at all.

Claude created his tarte tatin by the honey produced in the dark woods by some weird tier 2 bees. They were blue in colour, 4 times larger than normal bees and were able to work in the cold. Their queen, a tier 4 beast called frost hornet, agreed to give him some honey in return for burning some old and dead hives which rotted and needed to be removed.

Except for that, the night went by just like that, everyone thanked Claude for making such delicious food and a sweet dish as well. Though the tension of monsters still remained, everyone was able to relax and enjoy the night because of Claude. They were able to go into their slumber without any problems.

In a mountain near the village of venia, a makeshift campsite was built by destroying the trees.

The people in this campsite were anything but humans. They were giant to the point that even the tallest human would only reach their neck. They had bulky and big muscles with sharp and long teeths coming out of their tusks. All in all they looked pretty savage.

One of this people went in the direction of the biggest tent, he hesitated for a bit but finally called out :-

" Chief, can I come in ?"

" Yes, " A deep voice answered from the tents.

When he entered the tent he saw a woman with a small baby in her hands and a man sitting on a wooden throne. Even though that man was one of them he looked even taller and stronger than them. He also had this air of strength around him that was quite intimidating.

" Why have you come so late at night Shak ?" The man asked with a deep voice.

" I just came to inform you that the food resources are running low." The person named Shak answered.

" Hmm, you never inform me of any problem without a solution. What can we do about this food problem, Shak ?" The man asked with a smile as if he was talking to an old friend.

" There is a human village just down the mountain." Shak said with a smile.

" No, we have lost at least half of our troops due to beast attacks. I would like to avoid fights as much as possible." The man said even though everyone knew how much he loved to fight. This shows that he is a good leader that puts his people's needs before his own.

" I am not suggesting you to loot them, my chief. They have a lot of fruit farms. If only we ask them to give some of—" Before he can even complete his sentence the woman who was listening to them till now said in a soft voice :-

" From when did humans became such merciful that they will help us Shak."
