A job offer
It was currently in the middle of the day, On a road in the North, faraway from the Venia village. A small carriage protected by two knights on the horses can be seen.
If any person who has even the slightest knowledge of the nobility of the North he would recognise the insignia on the horse carriage belonging to the Marquess of Orsini.
Within the carriage there was a boy who was ten years old. The boy's looks would make any woman attracted to him while any man would turn green with envy.
He was currently sitting in a graceful manner. While keeping his right hand on the window of the carriage for support while holding a book on his left. Even if his looks were average with just this mannerism even nobles will respect him.
This boy was obviously Claude. He was currently going in the region of Fitoya in the Marquess of Orsini.
He closed the book and looked at the scenery while remembering the conversation he had with his family on the day before his birthday.
-Currently in the venia
" So what is this about Marquess of Orsini ?" Claude asked after a short pause.
" You see Claude, somehow the Marquess of Orsini has heard that you are a talented mage. At first he just heard it through rumours but after knowing that you are just not a tier 3 mage but also a sword master he was intrigued." Ares said in an explanatory tone.
" He wanted to meet you and talk to you for two years now but he decided to wait as he wanted your talent to nurture further. He recently heard that I am going to live in the north and as we have good friendship he wants to take cover in that friendship to bring you in his territory as you explained the circumstances we explained." Ares said with a creepy and disgusted look on his face.
" Husband !!" Amber screamed with eyes widened with shock.
" What ?" Ares asked in a loud voice.
" That is not what it means." She frowned.
" But that is the truth." He retorted.
Amber simply shook her head as if she had given up on Ares.
" Well, the real reason why the Marquess is calling you in his territory is because he has a job for you until you become 12 years old and give the yearly academy test." Amber said while touching her forehead.
" What job ?" Claude asked, confused and at the same time amused at the bad blood between Ares and that Marquess.
" He has a granddaughter your age. It seems like she has talent in swordsmanship to the point that she can enter the imperial academy. He wants you to be her tutor and partner." Amber explained.
" He wants me to become what ?" Claude asked because from that short description he can guess that his job is similar to a babysitter and you bet if he hates such a job.
" It's actually a bit complicated. According to him his granddaughter is spoiled rotten due to her being the only girl born in the whole generation and he thinks that her talent in swordsmanship had gotten to her head. He wants someone more talented than her of the same age to not let the matter get worse." Amber continued.
" Basically this is your job description. You have to teach reading and writing to her. You also have to spar with her and practice swordsmanship with her. You also have to be her attendant."
" Your payment is for the use of the library. You will also be given 5 silver emperions a month. You will also receive protection from the Marquess of Orsini." Amber said.
" Why do I need protection from the Marquess ?" Claude asked, a bit confused.
" The biggest reason I think you should take this job is that you need Marquess' protection because he is the only one who can protect you from….." She paused, fidgeting.
" From ?" Claude asked.
" Duke of Augustus, our family and one of the three Duke households of the North." Amber completed her sentence while lowering her gaze.
Sigh…..
Claude didn't say anything and just sighed at his situation. Seeing that Amber became worried and said :-
" It's not the Duke who will harm you, it is your uncle's. Seeing that you have so much potential to—" Before she can complete her sentence Claude interrupted her.
" Your family miss Amber. I don't consider anyone family except for those who I accept and those who accept my existence." Hearing this Amber became gloomy but after a few seconds her mood recovered as Claude didn't outright say that she is not his family.
" Why would this Marquess want to protect me ? Is he even strong enough to go against the Duke's house ?" Claude asked after an awkward silence which came with glares from Ares and Eren.
" The Orsini household is the household of magic users. They have produced outstanding mages from generations to generations and are loyal to the Duchy of Howard. Even the current head of the house is a tier 6 mage while his son is the personal mage of the Howard household." Ares said in a grumpy tone
" They have a lot of influence not just in the Duchy of Howard but the whole of the North." Ares concluded.
Claude understood the situation. This Howard household will definitely try to get rid of him as someone with such a high potential in magic. This Orsini household for God knows what reason wants to protect him from them. At least according to Claude even this job is facade to show people.
