Footprints

Strange things usually happen uncommonly. Once can be a fling, the second a coincidence, the third...not so much. But for all of it to happen to a group of kids? That is very suspicious indeed. (I am an amateur writer and English is my second language. So, I am very sorry if you encounter any errors in my novel...Happy reading)

Chapter 11

The cafeteria was filled with people working and studying in the school excluding the nuns who have their own place to eat.

There were groups of students who can be identified from their own unique individual appearance. It's the typical every casual school group you'll see everywhere. But one group stands out from the rest. At the very center of the cafeteria, where there are more distance from others in-between others, lies a certain group of mischiefs where trouble seems to always follow them.

"Where's the caddy?" Lotus has always had a particular love for tea, so much so that she cadged her parents to have it served in the cafeteria. The chefs offers any kind of menu; Chinese, Indian, Japanese, French and any kind of cuisine. Their employees, which is the parents of the students, pays millions of dollars a year to provide them the necessary environment for a rich kid.

"In the kitchen" Taylor answers while fiddling something in her hands.

"Why didn't you get it?" Lotus asks as if it's a normal thing for others to do her bidding.

"Really, Lotus?" Taylor looks at her with her left eyebrow raised.

"Ugh...Fine." Lotus looked at the others, busy on their own world. She didn't want to get it but servants weren't allowed in the school, so with no other choice, Lotus stood up from her chair and left for the kitchen. While Lotus had gone to get the caddy from the kitchen, Prima arrived with a girl beside her.

Prima stopped in front of them, getting their attention.

"Everyone meet the new student, Kelsea Venus." She looked at all of them before redirecting her gaze to the girl beside her. Prima invited her to sit down with the group.

"Billy Crawford, star quarterback and our bodyguard." Prima playfully says while looking knowingly at Kelsea.

"I'm just bigger...and maybe not the brightest here..." Billy looked around the table.

"...but gives great lessons to anyone who deserves one." Prima continued the sentence.

"Taylor and Tarot Price, inventors and the jokers. If you want anything that will annoy someone for a year, they're the people to go to." Prima introduce the twins, while the two just gave a hi to Kelsea. Not normal, considering they usually give greetings vigorously, especially to new students.

"Teddy Blair, as you have met earlier, is the most thoughtful person in the whole wide world whose family owns the most richest church/religion in the world."

"Sorry, I wasn't able to take you to your next class. But Prima texted me that she'll do the honors instead." Teddy apologized.

"It's okay, I understand. I was once in your position and know how busy you are." I accepted his apology and assured him otherwise.

"Mike Takashi, his father is Japanese while his mother is American. He's an otaku who loves telling stories, whenever he isn't as absorbed as he is now with his mangas, he is very boisterous." Prima introduced Mike to Kelsea next after Teddy gave his greetings.

Mike nodded at Kelsea and went back to reading his manga.

"And...where's Lotus?" Prima asked, not seeing Lotus anywhere.

"Right behind you." There was a girl's voice behind them that took their attention. Lotus came into view by sitting on the bench and laying her tea down.

"The name's Lotus Sinclair, heir to the Sinclair Company and the most prettiest girl in this school." Prima stated while smiling at everyone.

"Lotus Sinclair, as you can see, is a narcissistic and selfish girl in this school..."

"Hey!" Lotus cut in.

"...but she's also kind and a reliable person to be with who'll provide you a shoulder to cry on, donate a blood if you need one, help you in your problems and give you the courage you need." Prima ended the sentence with sincerity and honesty.

"Awww, that's really sweet of you." Lotus said, warmth in her voice and kindness in her eyes.

"Where's the nuns?" Kelsea asked curiously. She had looked around the place and only sees professors and students.

"The nuns don't eat here, only the workers and students. They're Abbey is just right beside the church. You've met with the headmistress right? She was once the abbess but she deposed herself from that position as soon as this place was modified to be tolerable for people to live in." Prima informed.

"Any teacher I should know about?"

"Oh, yes. That's right." Prima said, almost forgetting her promise to introduce her the teachers.

"That guy over there, getting food, he's professor in chemistry. He's a noble prize winner and a little bit eccentric...fun fact, he's wearing a wig because the twins did something that made his hair become permanently gone. Like, it was so funny when he came in walking inside the classroom without knowing he was bald." Prima laughed while remembering that particular memory.

"That was hilarious...and one of our greatest creation." Taylor told her and I laughed along with them.

"You see that woman over there, with the suit and black rimmed glasses? She's our physics professor and a member of REME." Prima pointed at their left.

"REME? As in Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers?" I asked with interest.

"You know them?"

"Who wouldn't? It's one of my goals to be a member of theirs." I told her with enthusiasm, that even I know I have not much shown in years.

"Electrical or Mechanical?" She asked her.

"Mechanical. I've always been interested on how everything works." Kelsea had that look of reminiscing in her face. She has always seen them in TVs and reading about them in books and magazines.

"I thought you wanted to be, I don't know, an archeologist, I guess?" Prima asked her with a little bit of uncertainty.

"History is amazing, but I don't see myself as one. I'm always afraid of leaving the country and travel the world to see historical sites, even though I would like to." The hidden implication was there but they didn't ask her why and just curbed their curiosity.

Kelsea didn't say why nor told them anything and was quite glad that although the group was different - what with brawn, brain, jokers and different individuals in just one cluster - they were more accommodating and kinder than she expected them to be. Very different from rich kids she always see in her previous school. But maybe only those that goes to elite schools would have more composed and better manners than the usual rich kids in common private and public schools.

"Are you guys the only ones together?" Kelsea asked them

"Hmmm?" Lotus raised her eyebrow at Kelsea while drinking her tea.

"I mean, you guys have almost every characteristics in each of you except one...an anchor. You guys are imbalance." I told them, stating the truth right away. The group was silent for a while and glancing at each other, as if they were talking with their eyes.

"Hadrian's not here...he's sick." Mike informed her, finally taking his attention away from his manga and looking at her as if he was assessing her.

"Oh...I'm sorry." She apologized to them, clearly they didn't tell her the first time because of that reason. It was a reasonable and sensitive information.

They talked after that with a different topic and left for their class after giving goodbyes.
