Chapter 16

It had been a week since I had received the letter, and now I was on my way to the Magic Council – the anticipation was electric! I wanted to beat the hell out of this test and finally be able to take jobs that were worth my time.

Throughout the week, I assisted Hugo with simple courier and delivery missions, but now I am eager to take on more substantial jobs that are worthy of my skills.

My week was focused and intense. I dedicated myself to rigorous workouts, pushing my limits to become stronger. Every day, Hugo or Sebas would witness my unwavering commitment, as I arrived completely spent but determined to keep pushing forward.

As I walked next to Sebas towards the cart wagons, I had a feeling that something might go wrong. Seeing the carts made me even more worried, so I made sure to stay alert and ready for anything that might happen.

As I had feared, the carts began moving, and the world around me started to spin. I felt like my insides should be outside, and it was an absolute nightmare.

"Master Jin, I had no idea that you suffer from motion sickness," Sebas said, looking genuinely concerned for me.

"I'm fine, Sebas. I just need a moment," I said, cutting myself off to avoid soiling his good suit.

The harrowing journey finally ended, and we arrived at our destination. The security team greeted us and collected the entrance permit issued by the Council, allowing me to participate in the test. The test comprised a legal component and a combat component.

The legal test was not too difficult, as it only covered the laws of the kingdom and some other common mage-related topics. I didn't have a hard time thanks to Sage, as I had memorized all the books. Looking around the room, I noticed several others, but it dawned on me that I was the youngest one there. Soon, the written test was collected, and after a short waiting period, the combat test was announced.

We were led into a room, and a group of Rune Knights surrounded the area with an assertive stance as they spoke. "Everyone, we will now begin the combat test. The rules are simple: each of you will fight the Golem that has been provided and try to last against it for 10 minutes. We will review your capabilities. Of course, some of you may not be combat mages, so each examinee will be graded depending on their magic. Do not be discouraged".

The test had started with a female mage leading the way. She wielded plant magic, enabling her to hurl seeds that swiftly grew into plants that ensnared and attacked the enemy. Although skilled in combat, she struggled with mobility, making it difficult to engage swiftly from long or close range. Consequently, this gave the Golem ample time to manoeuvre and launch attacks against her.

The woman lasted for 10 minutes, and the Examiner stopped the timer, causing the golem to stop as well. Although the woman was completely exhausted, the examiner still passed her.

Next, a man with purple hair caught my attention. He was wearing shoes with wings on them, which seemed odd to me. He used Solid Script magic, which surprised me because he didn't strike me as someone intelligent. The match began with him creating a hole using Solid Script, but the agile and strong golem didn't fall for it - it seemed like magic detection to me. He then tried using oil and fire on the golem, but the golem dodged the oil. The man had strong magic abilities, but his physical abilities were lacking. Eventually, the golem's stamina outpaced him, but he also managed to last the full 10 minutes.

Many people attempted to fight the golem, but most couldn't last the full 10 minutes. One of the reasons was that this golem was quite powerful; it had several resistances, and it was fast and nimble. Eventually, it was my turn, and I walked up to face the golem. The examiner looked at me, as did the others. I could hear several snickers and whispers about who let a kid in here and whatnot. The examiner looked to see if I was ready before announcing, "Begin".

The Fight started and I stayed my ground without moving as the Golem rushed in. It went for a straight punch and I caught it and twisted its arm breaking it off, then using the same arm I hit it on the face sending it backwards. Concentrating on The power of spatial push onto my Fist I teleported right next to it landing a punch onto its metallic guts and sending it flying onto a wall and breaking it in the process.

[35 seconds..you need to train more]. Sage reprimanded.

I looked around taking in the silence of the people who were mocking me a minute ago and simply walked to the examiner.

"So, can I go now?" I asked as I left without waiting for the answer. The test was complete and I even had to wait until evening to finally get my card. I walked home this time, as I didn't want to take the damned cart. Once I reach home, I should get my vehicle built with some sort of anti-motion sickness magic attached to it, because, let's face it, carts are terrible and fuck em.

And this my journey was over and I reached home to enjoy a good dinner a talk with Hugo and Lesselote and finally went to bed so that I could take a quest in the morning.
