Meng Xi stared at her wristwatch for the umpteenth time that afternoon. She waited and watched as people strolled in and out of the civil affairs bureau. She had arrived at the bureau since morning waiting for her fiance to join her so they could register their marriage that day but, for some reason, he was nowhere to be found.
She searched her purse and pulled out her phone, she impatiently dialed a number and lifted the phone to her ear only for her to hear the awful familiar words of the network provider telling her the call could not be connected and she was advised to leave a voicemail after a stupid beep sound.
"Huo Lingtian! Where are you?! I am telling you, if you make me wait another hour in this place, it is messed up between us and it is over!" She threatened and drew in a frustrated breath before continuing.
"Huo Lingtian, did we not agree to register our marriage today? Even if you were busy, you should have at least let me know! Look, I don't want to fight you for this so just hurry over if you get this message"
Meng Xi just did not get satisfied with the messages yet, she pressed her lips together and knitted her delicate brows feeling slightly demoralized.
"Tian, you know how much this is important to me, right? You already promised, are you going back on your words?" Meng Xi lowered her voice and spoke a bit softer with a hint of pleading that dispelled her natural arrogance.
She sent the voicemail, looked at the entrance of the civil affairs bureau again, and yet, another couple stepped out of the office holding their red marriage certificates with smiles blooming on their faces.
She hissed and pinched the bridge of her nose.
Meng Xi knew in her heart that she was not getting married that day because she was really willing to, she was just twenty years a day ago and naturally, she would have loved to pursue her dreams in the entertainment industry for another few years rather than marriage.
However, in order to claim the inheritance that her late mother left for her from her selfish and greedy father, she was pushed to take this drastic step. All of the companies her father was heading belonged to her late mother and in her mother's will, she clearly stated that Meng Xi could take over everything that belonged to her when she come of age but, her father refused to let go.
Meng Xi knew of her father's greedy syndrome since she was a child. First, the man had married her mother who deeply loved him not out of love but because he eyed the wealth of the Jiang family princess.
Her mother, Jiang Li was the princess and only daughter of the prestigious Jiang family, she was so blinded by love that she broke up with her family to marry an ordinary man without social status called Meng Xinjiang.
Jiang Li was initially happy for the first few years of her marriage but after she had her first child, Meng Xi, she could no longer conceive. Meng Xinjiang also took charge of her company on behalf of her and soon, he drifted away from her.
Meng Xi's mother became depressed afterward and a few years later when she was ten, her mother died. Meng Xinjiang probably mourned for a few days, he thought he would finally be in charge of his wife's company and own her wealth since she was gone but, his bubbles broke when Jiang Li's lawyer exposed her will.
In the will, it was clearly stated that everything that Jiang Li owned will be inherited by her only daughter, Meng Xi. Of course, Meng Xinjiang never expected that his calm wife would have prepared a will.
This was how Meng Xinjiang's enmity began toward his own daughter. Even if he wanted to, Meng Xinjiang knew that there was no way he could hoard his late wife's properties since there was still the presence of the Jiang family that was watching his every move. Meng Xinjiang had planned carefully over the years, he did not want to make any mistakes but with one swoop, wanted to take over what should belong to his daughter.
Meng Xi knew all of his father's selfish plans and this was why she would not give him a chance. First, he never cared about her mother and now, he wants to take what belongs to her. She would not let that happen!
When she was ten, she foolishly signed a contract with her father that stated that she would only be able to take over her inheritance when she is married. She remembered her scheming father had told her that she was just helping him with the affairs of the company when he put her finger on the red ink and stamped it on the paper. It took her a few years later before she knew what she signed!
Meng Xi glanced at the time again, it was already thirty minutes after four and soon, the civil affairs bureau would be closed for the day. She gritted her teeth and cursed a few people she hated in her heart.
If she had not found out about her father's plan to team up with some members of the board to finalize his position as the president of the company, she would not be rushing to get married.
Even if her fiance failed to show up, she had to find someone to marry her that day before the civil affairs office closed for the day. She raised her head and scanned around, it was then she saw him.
He rested slightly on the black Maybach, he glanced at his wristwatch briefly and furrowed his brows in anger. He was dressed in a plain dull color shirt and black trousers that accentuated his long legs. Nevertheless, the man's handsomeness was one of a kind, it was drool-worthy.
Meng Xi looked closely and seemed to recall that the same call pulled over just when she arrived at the civil affairs bureau that morning and until that moment, the person was still there. A thought popped into her head and her eyes brightened. She suddenly felt enlightened and smart.
Meng Xi clutched her purse tightly and then walked toward the man. She stopped before him and raised her face to meet his. She could not help but be stunned for a second and when she recalled her reason for meeting him, she wore a serious expression and greeted him warmly.
"Hello," she said to him and smiled faintly. Although she had never been a very romantic person, she still had her feminine charm that could entice anyone. The young man was not responsive as she expected, instead, he stared at her with a pair of dull eyes.
Meng Xi seemed to understand his current emotion, she did not feel disappointed at all, she rather went straight to the point.
"Sir, I wonder if you need a wife? You have waited for so long here and it is only a few minutes before the civil affairs bureau closes, I understand how you feel but, I suspect your bride won't show up today. How about this, give yourself to me in marriage today and I will pay you back honestly. Trust me, sir, it is a win-win situation and you definitely won't regret it" Meng Xi offered seriously.
The first chapter of extreme pampering! I hope we loved it!!! Please, support!
