V2 C6 Running away

Getting out of there wasn't easy as the group soon found themselves cornered by a hundred demonic creatures with more coming forward. For each one dying, another one would take its place making it a seemingly everlasting struggle.

This wasn't anymore a question about how to save everyone, but whether or not even one humanoid species would manage to escape.

Even with the demons group, less than 80 people remained, 25 of whom being human.

Sadly, willpower alone didn't allow anything. One by one, they would get slaughtered if they couldn't increase their strength.

''Jean!'' Emily shouted. ''Don't move and accept it!'' As she said so, orange threads-like energies rushed towards him, filling his cells making them stronger. No, this wasn't all. As they passed through its body, they press towards some point, lightly extending the energy's pathways. Not only would that allow him to mobilize energy more quickly, but less of it would get stuck inside, wasting his energy and exhausting his body.

'An advanced spell?!' A basic spell would only have allowed her to increase someone's abilities by 5%, and if all spells were quite hard to understand mastering a basic one was common.

Mastering an intermediate one was quite a feat as the method used was different. This wasn't abstract anymore as the spellcaster would need to actually understand the spell. And if it did increase the body's strength of a people and a part of its energy power, how much would depend on the caster strength. It was the spell she used on Rodolphe during the fight against Jean, a spell that had the merit of being completely safe for its receptacle, which was quite strange. The only explanation was that the Gods were still giving them a hand to cast it.

An advanced spell, however, was one where Gods didn't act. As such, the technique was fundamental. This spell delimits the frontier between low-ranking spells and high-rankings ones.

It creates a percentage increase in someone's abilities as much as the person had control over it.

'And this much!?'

His abilities had increased by at least 30%, a mind-boggling feat considering his strength.

There were 2 drawbacks to this technique, or rather 3: If the person didn't want to accept it, as it was harmful, the body would instinctively remove it, so it was necessary to have confidence in the person, something that high-ranking spells could avoid.

The second one was obviously the cost of such a technique: as it temporarily boosts one's body, there were bound to be injuries depending on the body's resistance.

The last one was that such a spell became harder and harder to perform as the target became stronger. It was necessary to have an extraordinary level of mastery and knowledge of both energies and cells.

Without waiting for Jean's surprise to wear off, Emily boosted all the other humans using the first technique and the demons with the second, resulting in a much greater force.

And since the problem wasn't endurance but time, this was exactly what they needed.

Despite this, even after 2 minutes, the fight seemed endless.

They had indeed decreased the distance to about 50 meters to the door, but these last 50 meters were impossible to travel: the flow of demonic creatures was too great.

''Jean! The situation is desperate! If we don't go through now we'll never be able to.'' yelled Alain.

''I know! What do you propose?''

''Nirl's has an artifact that allows one to increase their abilities but...''

''You can't use it towards an outsider?''

''That's not it.'' he shook his head. ''It had limitations. One can only use it as long as he is accepted as a member of Nirl.''

Pondering over it for a second, probably much more in his mind, he finally accepted the proposal reluctantly, looking with sorrow at those who were dying.

To tell the truth, Alain knew very well that Jeann could have made it alone, but his will to save the others was admirable.

A series of notifications went off that he did not look at. If all went well, the boost should show itself.

In an instant, Jean's strength increased once again, creating a path for the group. Alain had long guessed that his passive ability worked for everyone who became a villager. After all, he was the leader of Nirl, everyone but the other system holders were considered subordinate.

Once the group was fully boosted, they easily made their way through, leaving the others behind forever. 30 seconds later, the door closed, condemning any hope the other group might have had, a situation they could not observe with their own eyes given the mass of demonic creatures that separated the two groups.

...

''So this is how it ends, huh? Ahahaha''

''How can you be laughing!? We're here 'cause of you!" the demoness roared.

''This is no time to laugh!" another demon said.

''That's right'' François' voice turned ice cold. ''There clearly is no reason to laugh, no reason to just stay as slaughter-to-be animals. There is no glory, nor is there any sense. They just abandon us. They run by themselves.''

Rising from his kneeling position, he seems to have changed. What was stranding before they wasn't a human anymore but the devil incarnated. Before his black socket, the world seemed to have no secret.

''You force us there! If it weren't for you -''

''Even in the face of death you still bark, huh?'' His energy mixed with both his karma and emotions gave off an aura of death, which the innocent and weak would have a hard time repelling, their bodies submitting to avoid having to face it.

''W-Who are you. No... with this strength, how could you get yourself hurt?'' The demoness said. He was about her level!

To their surprise, his wounds didn't bleed anymore as if they never existed.

''You finally notice? I am me! Someone who wishes to stay alive! So let me ask you now: Either you try fighting by my side to live as a free person, or you die trampled to death by the monstrosity that will happen as someone who wasn't even free and hadn't make any glory. What do you choose?''
