Long Road Trip (2)

The car made a gurgling sound, making Snake pull the brakes. He skimmed over at the gas percentage, which had been hitting low. 'Ah, shit,' He closed the car, tapping the dazed Jack on the head.

"Gas running low. Can you refill it real quick? We got 4-ca on the back if you need to know." He pointed at the backseat. Jack widened his eyes and nodded, letting his seatbelt loose.

Bam.

He stretched, looking at the night sky. The stars edged up their glow, and the mountains raced to dwarf each other, but one always stood above the rest. The moon glared at the happenings, the human-made light messing up her beauty.

He clicked on the button that shot the trunk open; his eyes were bloodshot. Trying to avoid the sharp bag, he examined every nook and cranny before clenching a red bag of gasoline, the weird smell engulfing his nose.

'Why does it smell so nice?' He thought the weird burning smell had a pleasant feeling to his nose. Though it was not supposed to, it smelled exquisite, and most would agree.

He clocked the cap off, pumping the gas on the empty canister.

Looking over at the horizon, a giant stood amidst the mist, shadows piling off from his back; The eyes emitted darkness, and as he was above the highest peak, he looked lonely.

"What the?"

Jack scratched his eyes. The figure had disapparated. Jack did not think much of it, continuing to pump in gas. He closed the canister before entering the car through the door. Snake had opened the radio, playing gentle jazz.

"Welcome back," He inhaled, cracking his knuckles before adding, "We should probably sleep as well. I can park somewhere on the road."

Jack glared at his statement, which looked more judging than menacing. Snake ignored it, starting up the engine.

"Are you crazy?" Jack asked, keeping his stare.

"Why?"

"…Have you ever watched a horror movie? I don't want any undying man with a mask on my back."

Snake giggled upon hearing his statement. The silly things Jack said always made him feel fine, like a calming lullaby. He had agreed to go monster hunting, not because he thought it was real. It was to have fun. His schedule was empty, so why not?

They had quite a weird meeting, with Jack challenging Brett to a fight. Of course, it didn't end well for both of them. They kept their distance, but then it slowly started to loosen up, with a repeat of challenges and weird memories.

Jack infiltrated their group. And the rest was history.

"Okay, Okay. Just don't fall asleep. I can't carry three of you at once," They giggled, continuing the road.

The road was far empty, deserted other than a few fast cars passing like a flash. They were holding on to their tired ears. Jack stared outside the window, a man sprinting from one electricity pole to another. Snake watched over the road, lighting up the car lights.

Jack looked at the front, jumping away after seeing the lit-up city.

The night sky was not present, engulfed by the city. A tower reached high up, and the screeching of night owls bombed away at the city. Sai had swayed his eyes open, waking from his dreams where crabs danced with a long siren dude.

The city was blinding as it was magnificent, making Jack wonder how did anybody sleep around the city. Sai tried to close his eyes but ultimately failed. But Brett dribbled in his sleep without a care.

"Why is it so bright?" Sai mumbled, wiping away his squishing eyes. He looked at the yellow blanket that shone like his hair. He shoved the blanket away, revealing his skinny figure.

"Oh, you're awake? Thought you needed a maiden," Jack mischievously commented.

Sai looked away, being reminded of the disastrous class play. It became a dark past for him, as the teacher made the performance go onto the report card, and sickness couldn't be developed. Unfortunately, the group had decided to watch.

"Please, man, just, please… Why do you have to remind me every goddamn time?" Sai rampaged, making him blurt out the one word he shall not say.

"I thought you needed a crystal to back your jokes."

Snake stared with white eyes. Sai had fucked up, there were a few rules to live by, and that was the only one. But surprisingly, Jack kept his cool, glaring in silence which hit harder than any punches. Even Sai's voice waved, seeing the unusual reaction.

"I'm sorry," He said, scratching his head. And after that, only music played.

"The dead of night approached the stars."

"Take my hand, and you shall shine. The deal you accepted had ended well."

"Tell me how to reach your hand. I am lost and so cold tell me to mold."

They all stared inwardly, inducing a weird atmosphere. The jazz loosened them up a bit, but they still felt awkward, which was messed up by a waking Brett.

"Do we have internet now?" He asked right after his eyes opened. Picking up his phone, he accidentally stopped in the awkward room. He looked around at their face before saying, "Did somebody mention Cry-"

Sai clenched his mouth shut before the chaos could ensue, cold sweat dripping from the duo's spine. Jack sighed before changing the conversation.

"Anyways, where are we staying tonight? Though I don't think I can sleep anymore," He shrugged, turning to Snake, "Any ideas?"

Snake scratched his chin, and Brett knew what was coming.

"I like that hotel looks cool." He said, pointing at a rather fancy-looking hotel. Jack rubbed his face before replying to the boy.

"Isn't that a bit too expensive? We got a low budget." Jack said with a fed-up face.

"That's one of the affordable hotels 1-night is only 20 dollars max, that's is why it is a popular tourist attraction. Known as the cheap hotel, despite the budget of the interior."

He mumbled on, and Everybody else thought in unison, 'Npc.'
