A Reason For The Past *Bonus Chapter*

-Bonus Chapter (How did I even get 10 collections in a day? God Knows.)

[Warning: Currently sick so excuse me for the lower quality of the chapter.]

Jack loosened up on an oak bench, and the obnoxious cheers and screams of parents and children filled the park. The place reminded him of a spot he loved in his hometown.

He felt lost inside his thoughts, reminiscing about the scene he had created minutes prior. He had lost control of his body and caused mayhem. His mind trembled even visualizing it.

"What the hell," He scrambled his hair, failing to stop reminding himself.

He was horrified at himself and horrified at the lack of emotions. He hated it even more when he thought the man deserved his faith. That man also had a family… So why did he not feel anything?

He lay down on the bench, nibbling on his finger as he tried to sort his ideals.

His mind shifted quickly to goals quicker than Jack wanted to admit, and suddenly death felt natural as the first one was crossed. There was no extended bleeding in real life, unlike in movies.

But why did he even want to discover the forest? He thought for a minute before coming empty-handed. What did he want to achieve by proving monsters exist? To relieve his anxiety? Or perhaps something else entirely.

Jack did not have an answer to that question and could only sigh thinking about it. He fumbled his fingers, staring at the families running around.

He felt far away from them, something he could not reach, but he also felt relaxed, like nothing had happened; this troubled him, as his feelings shouldn't co-exist.

"Fucking hell…" He shook away his confusion and got off the bench; as he walked away, he felt something tug him into his baggy pants. He turned around seeing a little kid.

She withdrew her hand before Jack noticed her trembling lips. She had tidy white hair with a white beanie, which seemed to be groomed recently, and she had been struggling to keep her eyes open.

Jack tried to shake her off, but no matter how much he circled the park, he couldn't succeed. Jack rubbed his forehead before turning to face the kid. Jack jumped, seeing the crying eyes of the child.

"Calm down, please..?" Jack was caught by surprise.

The kid resisted covering his leg with a stick substance, and then she whispered something resembling the word "Mama." Something clicked in Jack's mind as the child said it.

He knelt and went face to face with the crying kid. He extended his hand and patted her head. The kid sniffled, but Jack smiled, trying to stop her from weeping.

It miraculously worked as the child wiped away her tears.

"Are you lost?" Jack was interested in the child and why she was so attached.

The kid snuffled before answering, "aren't you lost too?" She said in a stuffy voice, making Jack conflicted about her words. 'Kids have no mercy,' Jack thought before he let go of his hand.

Suddenly, he plummeted the child to his back.

"You know you shouldn't trust strangers," Jack exclaimed before following up, "But you found me first, so let me help you." He imitated a character from a novel he had once read.

The kid: Clinging tight to his scalp, hurt, though Jack would not admit it. He was smiling, but the kid emitted a weird aura inviting him to help like he was brainwashed.

"Weee," the child shouted, waving her little hands.

The citizens browsing the shopping district looked at Jack, muttering things like, "what a great brother" and" How cute."

Jack was flushed after all the indirect compliments, but Jack shook them off as he spired towards the police office; in this city, it was usual for kids to go missing, or so he heard.

Jack could feel his stiff shoulders breaking in the weight, yet he managed to set foot in the white and blue striped building where an officer greeted him.

The officer had a long beard and looked happy to see the kid. He sighed before examining Jack.

"Hello, young man," He said casually, "Thanks for bringing Windy back. I was just about to look for her."

Jack tilted his head as he put down Windy, the man waved his hand, and the kid rushed in with a hug. Jack sighed before asking, "Relatives?"

"Yes." The man replied. "She's my nephew, and sorry if she caused you trouble."

Jack plummeted to a chair beneath his tired legs.

"Must be problematic, can't even imagine having to run like that every day."

The old man giggled at his response.

"Well, I see it more as a reason to go on."

Jack raised his eyebrow, wondering about the man's unusual response.

"How so?"

The elder sat on his black chair and looked toward the empty white ceiling.

"Life, even if you make mistakes or even take away something important, there will always be a way to repay it, though you can never be forgiven. For this '-- old man that has such a past --' my nephew is my reason. Call it a job if you wish, as she's my employer, and I am her body guard. Simple, really."

Jack was left confused at his remark. The man seemed too laid back telling this to a child he had just met. So before he exited the sliding door he asked:

"Don't just tell this to anybody… Stay safe."

He did not know why, but he was smiling. The man smirked at the young boy's wishes.

"I shall. Tell me if you ever find your reason."

Jack walked away with a giddy smile, his hands stretching to the sky.

The elder felt he had repaid an overdue debt by educating a lost boy. But he could have never known what kind of a deed he had committed.
