Part of him had known that showing up tonight would tilt things in one direction or the other.

Part of him had wanted it to.

After what happened with Enis, after a week without, Finlay was forced to acknowledge that his resolve simply wasn’t as strong as it should be.

Especially not being with her like this. Reyna was, in many ways, his polar opposite. Open and accepting and unflinching in her desires.

And in other ways, she was very much like him. Loyal, dedicated to her people, and oftentimes too selfless than is really good for her.

It was the differences that appealed to him, though. Because he used to be like that. He could remember a time when his family was whole and he was surrounded by love and affection, when he wasn’t afraid to show it in turn.

The familiarity of it called to him in moments like this, when she was so close, so sincere, her emotions so clear and sharp to him through the bond that he imagined she had to want him to feel them.
