Seeing him was two-fold; a profound, bone-deep relief and confusion like she’d never experienced before.
That jealousy she’d tried to bury came rearing back up as he moved passed her, into the area between the kitchen and the living room. She could still see the smug expression on Eisla’s pretty face - and it was a pretty face.
The longer she’d had to think about it, the more she’d allowed herself to fall into that piteous state of pettiness she so often criticized in others. Analyzing this other woman’s looks, what she must be like, what her relationship with him was like.
Were they friends first? Did they grow up together? How long had they been a thing? Since they were teenagers? Was it some sort of high school sweetheart situation?
As if she actually wanted to hear it.
Another circle jerk. She wanted to know and she didn’t. She wanted to ask and she didn’t. It was all painfully disconcerting.
He broke the silence. “Nice place.”
