16. Result of practice midterms

"Hey! Did you check out the results? It's crazy!"

"It's no joke this time..."

"Well at least I passed unlike you. Lol!"

"You little-"

I hear the students chatter in the 10th-grade corridor. Are the results out already? And by their reaction maybe the exams were tough this time since many kids failed in at least one subject and are needed to take that exam again. I have to face it either now or later. I must rank at least third in the grade to maintain my scholarship. The midterms we just had can be called practice rounds since the first-term exams are usually in December. This exam is just to examine how much we are prepared.

I was standing in front of the noticeboard and the chattering and noises of the students in the background sounded blurry. I could feel my heart come up to my throat and the upset feeling building up in my stomach.

I made it? 93%? I have to start studying harder if I want to do better in the following exams but at least for now, I'm safe. I sighed and went to my first class for the day. I heard numerous whispers as soon as I entered the classroom.

"Did you see the results? Damn crazy!"

"I had to double-check if my eyes were working right."

"The difference was colossal bro."

I quietly sat in my seat and to my surprise, no curses were scribbled on the desk. Did the kids really think I got in by unethical means just because a couple of kids spread rumours? It works out for me anyway so whatever. Also, it seems like no one in class is cursing at me now but is instead avoiding me. Not much later our homeroom teacher came in with Daejung and Cheng.

"Daejung you need to try harder. Your scores have fallen tremendously this semester. And Cheng, I know you just debuted but at least try to clear all the exams," said Mr Park.

"Yes sir", they replied in sync and went to their respective seats.

"Alright! So, did everyone see their results? I hope you have. You kids need to get your act together, a quarter of you barely passed through", he took out a sheet of paper from the folder he was carrying and continued, "Choi Junseo placed first in our class and Kim Jungwon is in the second place, so, Jungwon shall remain to be the class representative since Junseo just transferred and isn't fully aware of the school's layout."

"Understood sir", replied Jungwon.

That's a relief. I didn't want to be a class representative. 

Mr Park continued to Jungwon but this time with a sigh, "I'm disappointed, Jungwon-ah. You used to come first since the first year of middle school. What happened for you to fall behind?"

"I'll work harder, sir."

Surprisingly the school ended peacefully which was unexpected. I quickly left and saw many kids accompanying each other as they went to the cram school as I boarded the bus. Sehun hyung said that we should post Daejung and other's doings maybe next month but I'm not sure since things have calmed down recently. I'm not sure if I should be anxious or relieved. 

Didn't Mr. Park say that Chen debuted recently? That would bring a huge blow to his reputation. I searched his name on Moogle.
