Older Sister

Having an older sister was great! In contrast to my dark hair and dark eyes hers were a blazing red and vibrant blue. Not to say that one of us was prettier than the other, both of us had our own attractiveness, I suppose hers was a more lively one and mine a more brooding beauty.

At first glance both of of us were mildly at a loss of what to do and our conversation sort of went like this.

"Um, Hi."

"Hi."

"Uh, so what do you like to do?"

"You mean like hobbies?"

"Yeah."

"Um I like to ride, fence...?"

"Oh I wish! My parents don't let me do anything like that, the closest my parents let me get to sharp pointy objects is an embroidery needle."

"Oh, well, um...."

"Um...wanna embroider?"

"...sure I guess."

She was actually the daughter of a good friend of my mother's and my parents had decided to adopt her as their own. But listening to her I heard a world view completely different from mine despite our similar social classes.

Her hobbies involved horse back riding and fencing, she loved being free, the total opposite of me. Although, you never know, I guess we'll never know because you can't love something you never had. I mean I love my parents and everything, they're just so...AGH!

But Millie (my new sis's name) was different. She exposed me, through stories and pulling me out of my comfort zone, to a whole new world. She was like a forbidden fruit. But little did I know how forbidden that fruit would turn out to be.

It was a fairly rainy day and due to this my parents were afraid of letting me even go to the greenhouse. You may be wondering why since after all a greenhouse is indoors. But apparently, according to my parents at least, the walk, from our mansion to the greenhouse would be outside in the rain where I may catch a cold, then pneumonia, then...you get the idea. I mean come on! It was simply several meters!

Just as I was seriously contemplating asking the maids to bring up my fifth plate of chili fries (yes they have that here, and yes I'm binge boredom eating) Millie came to me with an exciting proposition. She had told me once of a young man in the town who she had regular correspondence with. For our age (twelve), crushes weren't rare but to act on them was a whole different matter.

When I found out I was at first scandalized, then slowly curiosity took over which eventually transformed into awe and admiration. See, it's true I had my previous life's memories but they were distant, rather like a movie. So, overall I was still mostly in the mindset of a sheltered princess.

Anyway, my sister had been regularly sneaking out to see that male friend of hers and today, at the time I thought it must have been her pity towards my miserably bored state but now I know better, she was inviting me along. I was anxious at first but repeated assurances and an unquenchable curiosity for the outside world eventually won over.

Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if I refused. How long could I have remained an innocent sheltered princess? But in all honesty even if this wasn't my fate I probably would still have fallen into their claws eventually, or more likely death.

So, I followed Millie.

The memories after that are mostly vague. Distracting the maids with a dead mouse Millie found, crawling on our hands and knees, after that it was just alleyways. I recall lots of twists and turns. Although we did catch a glimpse of the lively town I so longed for Millie pulled me another way, insisting we'd be caught if we went into town.

I was rather doubtful of the foreboding alleyway she insisted upon and a bit worried now as to who this male friend of hers was. Had she gotten caught up with thugs or something of the sort?

Finally, we came to a dark door. I don't know how she could possibly distinguish it from all the identical others. She let go of my hand, stepped up, and just like in some spy movie rapped a pattern on the door.

I stared at her. Was she serious? After a moment of silence, the door slowly creaked open. Millie turned to me with a smile, "see, it's fine", then she grabbed my hand and walked in. I expected to see a gnarled old face but instead was met with that of a pleasant young man looking to be in his twenty's when we steeped in the house. Was this my sisters beau?

But my sister barely gave him a glance except a distracted sound of agreement when he asked "is she the one?"

I was even more weirded our now. Who is the she? Considering it's just us the most plausible answer would be me. But why? Weren't we here for my sister to meet her boyfriend? What is going on? A sense of anxiety began creeping up my spine. I attempted to dispel it, after all Millie is my sister. She can't hurt me, right?

Millie continued dragging me through the house which seems mostly bare but with her rapid pace I have no time to look at anything. Finally we reach a door which Millie shoved open. We are met with...gorgeousness. Dark hair, silver eyes, inhuman beauty. My sister, unsurprisingly, blushes at the sight of him. He too asks the same question as the other guy. Millie let's out a shy "y-yes".

He gives her a smile and she basically swoons, "you know what to do from here." Then he hands her something I am unable to see clearly although I catch a hint of bright luminecent red. "Do it out of my office, it's too much of a mess."

To say I'm extremely weirded out at this point would be an extreme understatement. I turn to my sister, "wha-".

She ignores me and responds to the guy.

"Yes!"

Then, next thing I know she grabs me and yanks me outside the room with the guy.

Her facial expression as she faces me is no longer that of a young maiden in love, now it's ice cold.

"I'm sorry Esme, it has to be done" and with that she thrusts something into me and the next thing I know is black.
