SCAM!!

Silence descended upon the smoldering clearing, broken only by the crackling of embers and the distant hooting of an owl. Montu, bathed in the dying glow of the fire, stared down at the Hobgoblin's corpse, a strange sense of unease gnawing at him. Unlike the goblins he had dispatched with cold indifference, the Hobgoblin's death left a hollowness in his heart.

He knelt beside the body, his fingers brushing against the Hobgoblin's singed wounds. As he did, a whisper of a sound echoed in his mind – a faint, fragmented memory of clashing steel, the guttural roar of a monstrous beast, and the searing agony of a mortal wound. The image, fleeting and indistinct, left him gasping, a phantom pain lancing through his numbed limbs.

Montu recoiled, his face contorted in a semblance of shock.

"What was that?"

Had he…remembered? Was this the memory of the body he now inhabited, a glimpse into the life he had usurped? The thought was unsettling, a crack in the smooth narrative of his un-life.

'This thought never crossed my mind in 2 days while being here, I woke up in this body 2 days ago, but whose body was this, and what happened to him?'

He pushed the thought away, focusing instead on the practical. He opened the system interface, the text glowing  against the backdrop of the night.

The accumulated experience points from the slaughter were intoxicating, enough to propel him several levels higher.

[Congratulations Host]

Montu added 14 points straight to magic and 4 remaining to his mind stat.

He immediately felt a sharp pain, which he never felt since coming here, as his sense of pain was no longer working.

The pain left after 10 minutes or so. 'What was that, how was I able to sense pain while being a Zombie? And this never happened when I added points to mind stat in my previous life. There is definitely something wrong about this.'

He gave up after a while cause he couldn't think of anything.

He thought of his profile window and it opened.

Every stat was a grim trophy, a testament to the lives claimed in his brutal rise.

He was somewhat glad to see his increased HP and level.

As players don't have a shop, they can't buy items like him, if they played as it is supposed to be, they won't be able to reach level 9 even in 10 days.

But the hollow victory left a bitter taste in his.... mouth. The whispers of memory, fleeting and unsettling, refused to be silenced. Whose body did he inhabit? What horrors had it witnessed before succumbing to Montu's unwelcome possession? These questions gnawed at the edges of his borrowed existence, casting a shadow over his newfound power.

A sudden chime snapped him out of his introspection. A congratulatory message, tinged with an unnerving joviality, declared someone was "very pleased" with his actions.

[Congratulations Host, someone is very pleased by your actions and wants to give you a passive skill]

Flame Heart= All fire type skills cooldown reduces by 40%

All fire type skills damage increases by 30%

[Does the Host wish to accept the Skill]

[Yes] [I will be sad if you say No]

Flame Heart - as captivating as it was suspicious. The promise of enhanced fire magic and cooldown reduction was undeniable, yet the lack of a refusal option raised goosebumps on his undead skin.

'I never heard about something like this ever happening in my past life, why are there so many new things in this life?'

"System, tell me who wants to give me this skill," Montu demanded, his voice a dry rasp in the night air.

A maddening silence met his query. The system, an ever-present entity in this twisted game, remained impenetrable.

'Is this one of those bored Gods who may have been watching me and was pleased by my fire show!'

Or something more sinister..

'Well whatever, I don't know, I don't care, the only thing is that the skill is very tempting.'

Forget about the damage increase, just the cooldown reduction of 40% is already an impressive skill.'

"And there isn't even a No option to refuse the skill, this is a SCAM!!!!!"

With a sigh, Montu accepted the dubious gift.

He clicked on [Yes]

Flames erupted around him, a fleeting dance of orange and gold against the black canvas of the night.

He panicked, he wouldn't even know if he was burning or not as he can't perceive pain. But calmed down when he checked his HP from his profile, which didn't decrease.

His form remained unscathed, a chilling confirmation of his undead nature. The fire vanished as quickly as it appeared, leaving only the unsettling warmth of the Flame Heart smoldering within.

He turned his attention to the remaining goblin corpses, a morbid buffet spread before him. Biting into a wiry arm, he waited for the familiar surge of Plague Sorcery. Nothing. Disappointment gnawed at him. Not all corpses were fertile ground for undeath, it seemed.

'I was just lucky with Happy, not all dead can be made into zombies, only living can be made into zombies with a high chance.'

But then he remembered the evolution points earned at Orilon's tavern, a fleeting taste of the power hidden within these macabre feasts. Greed flickered in his nonexistent eyes. He devoured the goblin piece by piece, the meat like dry tinder catching alight in his stomach. A surge of energy pulsed through him.
