Choosing second to come first

It begins a bit rough but improves as it progresses just due to it being my first work, the world as everyone knew it changed, John though refused to bend or bow, well others seemed to be corrupted and changed by there choices John kept his sanity, or rather had no sanity to hold onto as the voices in his head that others beside his best friend dismissed as imaginary become more prominent, as he sets out to make his mark he learns the nature of the changes to the world, finding out more and striving to get stronger and to kill the so called gods who where responsible for it, but everything comes at a cost. So just a small heads up, it starts a little rough but I can promise it Improves as the chapters go on, a bit slow but it's my first real novel so hope you all enjoy it :-) Ps. This story is writing itself, so all the twists and turns are by its own choice as I'm just the one putting it on digital paper as odd as that sounds, share a stone if you like it and I'll also try to keep as consistent as I can with updates.

Chapter 53

Chapter 53:

Entering the main building was quick and easy, Butcher and Carnage making short work of any doors in there way. Finding the basement, they where surprised by the amount of food and rations there where, various shelves full of instant noodles both in packets and cups, chips and biscuits along with various boxes of cereals and tons of tin food.

The few former prisoners who chose to follow practically salivating at the sight of all this food, disbelief in their eyes with a urge to grab some that was only being kept at bay by the presents of Butcher and Carnage.

"We will gladly allow all of you and the others who wish to leave to take everything left after my group takes some of the supplies here, I can also promise it won't be scraps, after all there is far too much here for all of us to handle on our own and we haven't even been to the freezer yet." Lesh's horse tone breaking the quiet and receiving surprised but suspicious looks, clear that they were hopeful but would choose to believe it after seeing it.

Finding the freezer area it seemed like it was just a large slab of steel stuck to the wall which the two made short work of, ripping open its door, the sight that greeted all present though was stomach turning, hanging on make shift hooks where a mix of various monster bodies but what caused them to feel sickened was the bodies of other people seemingly having been carved and used as meat the same as the beasts.

"If you guys wish to take monster meat feel free to do so, but we will not be touching anything in this freezer. Theres no telling what has or hasn't been contaminated, but it does make me wish we had caused far more pain to the ones who where responsible for this place. Eating monster meat is understandable, I can even somewhat understand cannibalism in extreme situations where there is no other option and it's the only way to survive, but they clearly had enough food and supplies, there was no reason to turn to cannibalism." Lesh says, his tone sickened and somewhat angry at this sight as he turned to butcher and carnage, having each store tin foods in their pockets making sure to take various packs of instant noodles, some boxes of cereals along with chips and biscuits. After taking a decent amount of the various foods in the room filling their arms as they made their way out.

The few who followed where in disbelief. As true to his word the portion of the resources that were taken by Lesh and his group consisted of just over a quarter leaving plenty for their group of survivors to take. Though they where unsure weather to take any of the meat or leave it as Lesh and the others had.

Making his way upstairs he could easily see the room that should hold the various loot, its solid steel door clearly something that was forced into place like the freezer in the basement. "Guys, I know how strong the pair of you are, but I doubt you would be able to force yourself threw this like with the freezer, so rather break the wall next to it and force it open as if its one very big door please." He calmly says, his horse tone carrying hints of amusement.

With a grunt Carnage used his knuckleduster to break parts down the side of the metal door, Butcher gripping it soon after, with an addible growl of exertion the metal door came loose from the wall, dust and pieces of cement falling all over the place as it was moved open, giving enough space for them to fit through.

"Please go get some of the others for me, both of those coming with us and of the ones who have chosen to leave, if there to survive they will need to be prepared and ready as well." Lesh says getting a nod from Butcher as he left to do so.

The room itself was not large but definitely not small but extremely disorganized. A locker with three guns where visible inside and ammunition boxes with them, next to the locker scattered all over the floor where various swords and knives, shields of various shapes and sizes piled up in a separate corner with lots of makeshift armours in their own pile next to them. Weird scrolls and pieces of parchment making a pile in next to the door and lastly on a shelf all its own and being the only organized area in this mess of a room consisting of different colours and shapes, from simple vials to fist sized bottles where potions, there effects unknown but clearly holding value as they where the only things with a semblance of organization in the room.

"Theres so much stuff here! And, and you're really going to let us take some? I heard how you left a lot of the food back there for us, but you're also going to allow for us to freely take from here now and not after you have already gone?" A bulky former prisoner couldn't help but ask, disbelief that they would be allowed to take along side Lesh, and not have pick of scraps. They already found his generosity in regard to leaving so much food astounding but now they would even be given weapons and armour to help survive. Something they hadn't even thought to hope for.

"Those coming with me kindly get a set of armour and one weapon, leave the guns and bullets though, those are for the ones who will be leaving. The rest is free to take though, once everyone has gotten something rotate and allow the next group, then once everyone has armour on, we can leave." He tells them grabbing a backpack and loading it with half the various potions, scrolls and parchments, finding some odd books to add along with them but once more not taking everything much to the surprise of those present.

Once having taken what he wanted Lesh simply left further surprising them further as they proceeded to inspect everything in the room.
