The Summit

The latest incident threw the whole research facility into an uproar.

The Sudden arrival of the patron was strange enough. But the way he ignored the chief researcher and asked for Dr. Yriggs, Nobody could figure out what was going on.

Everyone began to gossip about what was going on and why had Dr. Aeon called only Dr. Yriggs.

Rumors began to fly around that Dr. Yriggs had managed to do some groundbreaking breakthroughs That had resulted in her receiving praise from the Patron. But nobody really knew what that was.

Dr. Yriggs was a section chief and was in the opposite faction to which Dr. Ridgar and the others belonged. So her suddenly receiving so much attention from the patron was troubling from them.

They even held an emergency meeting about what was going on. But nobody seemed to know anything about the proceedings and the circumstances which led to this situation.

Seeing that everybody could only guess, they put this matter off for now.

They could only wait until the summit to find out what was the case. But everyone figured that it must be something really important for the patron to give her his personal attention.

Soon, all the chiefs and top researcher received a notification about the summit. It was gonna start shortly.

So everyone finished up their preparation and headed towards the summit room.

The Room itself was a gigantic circular that could house about a thousand people at once, but there were only seats for about 300. So there were a lot of distance between each other.

The roof of the summit room was a giant clear dome that looked directly out into the void of space.

If only looked upwards while sitting in the room, they could directly peer into the space and found see the nearby planets.

As people started to pour into room one by one, Most of the 300 seats soon filled up. There were a few empty seats but that couldn't be noticed.

All the top level researchers in the facility currently sat in this room.

In the middle of the room, there was a special seat that was clearly reserved for the VIP. In this case, the patron.

One could figure out it's purpose from just a glance. The expensive and luxurious seat reflected the majesty of the one destined to sit there.

About half an hour went by as everyone took their seat. But the Patron hadn't arrived yet. Everyone was waiting for his arrival.

Soon the huge main entrance opened and a group of guards quickly poured in. They took their already designated places all around the room so that everyone would have a clear view of the stage and the special seat in the middle of the room.

All the Buzz in the room suddenly died down as everyone looked at the guard. The Patron would be arriving shortly.

As expected, soon after the Guards had finished assembling, Dr. Aeon walked through the entrance. With his usual entourage and Dr. Yriggs in tow. There was one other researcher among them that most of them didn't notice.

She was wearing a pair of glasses with her hair neatly bound in a bun and her while lab coat gave her an aura befitting of a researcher. But she seemed a bit nervous.

Dr. Aeon made his way to the center of the room where he took the already prepared seat and his personal guards took their designated place.

The two researchers made their way away from their usual seats and took a pair of seats near the center of the room.

The center of the room was a quite a bit lower than the edges of the room, this gave everyone a clear view of what was going on in the center of the room.

Dr. Aeon coughed a few times before speaking in his usual voice.

"Let's get this on the way." He said as he looked at the head researcher of the facility. The guy understood the gesture and took the lead.

The Summit went on as usual and everyone began to present their finding and achievements before everyone present in the room. They obviously put a special emphasis in impressing the patron, but they still needed to finish their presentation.

The Research facility was quite huge and there hundreds of research projects going on at any given time. Some more important than others. So hearing about all of them took quite a bit of time.

The Summit went on for hours before the last person finished their presentation and walked off the stage.

Dr. Aeon cleared his throat again before speaking.

"With that out of the way, let's get on to the main business. Dr. Yriggs please step forward." He spoke in a clear tone. His instructions as clear as ever.

Everyone held their breath. Ever since the beginning of the summit everyone knew that the real agenda would start after the initial reporting.

All the eyes currently fell onto Dr. Yriggs. Who calmly stood up, but didn't come forward. Instead she spoke,

"Instead of me, I'd like to recommend my protégé Dr. Luna, She's the one made this really important discover and deserves full credit for it. I think it's best that she presents the case before everyone." She spoke.

Although she was sitting near the center of the room, Her voice was automatically amplified so that it could be heard all across the room.

Dr. Aeon heard her recommendation and gave a slight nod. He didn't even bother to say something.

Dr. Yriggs turned to Luna who was sitting in seat on her right. And gave a understanding nod.

Getting the green light from her mentor, she stood up and began walking towards the center stage.

After getting their, she took a few deep breaths as she forcibly tried to calm herself down. After that she pushed a few button on her tab.

The central holographic projection of the room took over as the room darkened quite a bit.

The Projection began to show a planet. It was a huge planet covered with a thick blanket of different gasses.

She gave a final look towards her mentor Dr. Yriggs before she turned towards Dr. Aeon.

She began to speak.

"The projection of the planet before everyone is a planet is situated in a system known as NEX2320. As some of you present here might know, there was a recent incident that happened in this system that caused the planet to change from this."

She pushed button.

"To This."

The Projection instantly changed from a planet to a planet that was burning. It's surface glowed fiery red as one could see the lava flow on it's surface.

There was a visible crack in the middle of the planet. The crack separated the two halves of the planet from each other.

Gasps could be heard as everyone watched in horror what had happened to the previously normal planet.
