The Nuart System

After 2 and a half weeks later, Kita got off the ship one stop before his destination. He couldn't go back to the Bican system knowing that there were people following him. And from the information he had, they weren't ordinary either.

He had already talked with Osritch and settled everything up. Osritch was gonna arrive here in a few days with the Jeager in tow.

Somehow the guy had already managed to get a group of crew for the ship and had already completed the hiring process.

Hiring all these staff had costed Kita a pretty penny. But he didn't really care about that. He had just looked at the bill of 160,000 credits and had paid Osritch for it.

The system he was currently in was known as The Nuart system. It was also a highly developed star system. It was primarily known as one of the major Mech Hub of the empire. There were a lot of Mech companies who had their headquarters and factories in this star system.

This Star system was popular for the reason that it was situated in a favorable spot that was easily reachable from the biggest trade routes that spanned throughout the empire.

This meant that it was fairly easy to get large shipments of important metals and other exotics that was required to keep the factories running.

The Mech industry was still a relatively new industry in the empire and for the rest of the humanity as well. As mechs were invented only about 80 or so years ago. They were still really rudimentary and would take a lot of time to become mainstream.

Each mech costed a huge sum of money to build and to maintain, so keeping a company of 40 mechs was still a an expensive endeavor. But that wasn't even the most important part.

Not everyone could pilot a mech. There were a exceptionally small group of people who were able to pilot it.

There was a thing called genetic aptitude, one had to be born with it to be able to pilot a Mech. But only a small group of people were lucky enough to have that. For that reason, these people were usually sought after by the empire's military.

They would get paid high salaries and would enjoy a lot of benefits for being Mech pilots.

The Arcorn Military currently had the biggest mech army out of the human states. This was only natural when considered that Mechs were originally invented by the empire.

Although one might question why one would need mechs when one could field warships. And that was a very valid question.

The warships were bigger, better and more powerful than any mech. They were more economical, provided greater protection and were easier to build and field. Mechs needed ships to be able to perform their jobs and costed a lot of money in the first place.

But mechs enjoyed an advantage that the ships didn't. They were more maneuverable. That was really important and warships couldn't be fielded everywhere. More often than not, humanity needed to conquer hostile alien planets. And not just that, but they might also need to pacify occupied planets of the systems they had just captured.

All these planets were often times heavily fortified, And the defenders enjoyed the home ground advantage, in these situation, it would be easy to just bombard the planet from Orbit.

But that would destroy much of the planet and the structures that the aliens had built over hundreds of years. All these things were precious and could be repurpose for several different things.

So instead of bombarding everything from orbit, it was more desirable to capture the cities as intact as possible.

As warships couldn't land on the planet, Mechs were the next best thing. They had more firepower than any other combat assets, and were easy to work with.

More often than not, the bounty of capturing the city intact justified the expenses related to Mechs.

That's why the Arcorn empire invested a huge amount of money in the mech legion and worked to improve mech technologies.

But there were a lot of private individuals and institutions that also fielded mechs. They were wealthy enough that they could afford the initial investment and their line of work could also use the benefits of having a mech company or two.

That's why a lot of big private corporations popped up as soon as mechs were made available to the public and they began to manufacture and sell mechs to anyone that could afford to buy them.

The Nuart system was one of the hubs where a ton of activities related to mechs happened on a regular basis.

People often came here to buy mechs and hire mech pilots for their services. If you needed anything related to mechs, this is where you'd want to be.

Kita quickly headed over to Nuart II, which was the main planet of the system.

Once he landed on the planet, he quickly checked into one of the hotels. There was a reason he had opted to stay on the planet instead of the space station this time. It was much harder to kidnap someone from the planet than from the space station.

So staying on the planet came with additional safety.

After checking into the hotel, he quickly headed out. He took a shuttle and headed over to the Jidar Continent. There was someone there he wanted to meet.

After getting out of the shuttle, quickly headed over to a mall and then headed inside a Café. The person he was meeting should be here.

He needed some intelligence on who was after him.

He took a seat and ordered himself a coffee.

He looked at the entrance to see if the person he was here for would enter.

"You aren't gonna find anyone there."

Kita quickly turned to the side to look at the lady who was sitting on his side.

"Elena, you startled me!"

"That was the plan!" She said as she moved over to the seat in front of him.

"So, what brings you here, little brother?", She said as she took a sip of Kita's coffee.
