Indulging Oneself

After Kita revealed where they were headed, He followed on with the plan. Although their destination had been set, there were more things that needed to be laid out beforehand.

The Meeting went on for hours as Kita explained and discussed the finer details of the expedition with everyone.

During this important expedition, York couldn't do anything but hold himself back from asking the questions that were pinning at him the most.

These Cubes that Kita showed were so similar like the cores from the B1 that It couldn't possibly be a coincidence. Although York wasn't a specialist at this stuff, he had worked with Kita and Helen enough to know that if they seemed similar, there was a possibility that they had the same origin.

But Kita had mentioned that the cube had been found in a different star system.

This could have some major implications. But York didn't want to blindly guess what all this meant. He wanted to talk with Kita about this as soon as possible.

So he patiently waited as Kita and other's discussed the proceedings. But There was a rush of emotions going through his heart. He had lost so many colleagues the last time they had encountered such a situation. He didn't know what to expect now. But he hoped that he wouldn't need to see anyone else die.

"Okay then. This concludes this meeting. Let's finish up everything else and then we can take her out." Kita said to everyone to which they gave a nod.

After everyone left the room, York approached Kita.

Kita knew what he wanted to ask, So he stopped him before he could ask the question.

"I know what you want to ask, But wait till we get back to the Lab. We don't know who might be listening."

That stopped York from saying anything further. He knew that the matter was really sensitive and the military wanted to make sure that the news about the B1 Incidents didn't leak to the public. So everything had to be discussed as carefully as possible.

York followed Kita back to the Lab.

After they entered the Lab, Kita pressed a few buttons that put the Lab under strict Lockdown. Nothing could go in or out while this was activated.

After Kita raised a privacy barrier, He took a seat as he faced York. Prepared to answer his questions.

Seeing that Kita was ready to address his question, York didn't delay any further and started asking.

"Kita, What's up with that Blue cube? Where did you find it?"

"I didn't. This blue cube was found by the previous crew of this ship. I found out about it after I bought the ship and checked the ongoing research projects of the team. Supposedly they had come across this while traveling to another system."

"I see. Are it's function similar to the orange ones?"

"I don't really know. But from the logs of the previous head researcher aboard the Jeager, It doesn't seem so. It emitted strange signals that passed thought almost everything thrown at it. Which wasn't the case for the Orange ones. They didn't even emit any signals."

"But They look SO similar! Except for the color everything about it is the same as the other ones! This can't be a coincidence Kita" There was clear urgency in his voice. He didn't know what to make out about the situation. But his tone made it clear that he was afraid of what awaited them if they looked further into this.

"I know this isn't a coincidence. If my guess is right, then the creators of both of the cubes are the same. Either the same alien or race." Kita said in conclusion. His tone was perfectly calm. He had already worked out his thoughts and didn't panic.

"Are you sure you want to research further into this? You know how dangerous this is. You know what happe..."

"I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I know what happened the last time we looked into this. I've learnt from my mistakes! I am not gonna make the same mistakes again." Kita roared before York could even finish his sentence.

He didn't want to hear from York what had happened last time. No one was impacted more than him during that. No one.

Kita's sudden outburst caught York off guard. He didn't expect Kita to get triggered. He seemed so calm. But his sudden outburst raised another question.

"Okay then, I'll change the question. What are you trying to achieve by this?" York didn't back down with his questioning. He knew Kita really well. They had been friends and colleagues for a long time.

In fact, No one aboard the ship knew Kita more than York.

So he pushed on. He knew that Kita's mind was in a disarray after the B1 incident. He wanted to make sure that he didn't pushed himself off the deep ends.

"What do you think you'll find if you look into this? You think you'll get her back? You think you'll get Helen back?"

Kita looked wide eyed at York. He didn't expect him to ask this question.

Although the Question was quite sensitive, Kita would be lying to himself if he denied it. Although he didn't want to birth any hope. But he could deny that he had thought of the possibility of getting Helen back.

How? He had no idea.

He was totally clueless about it. He didn't know anything about anything regarding this.

But what he did know was that, The race responsible for the B1, the cubes and the death of Helen was immensely advanced and powerful. The reach of their power couldn't even be imagined by Humanity.

If there was a possibility. If anyone could hope to achieve something like that, It would be them.

That's why Kita wanted to know more about them. He wanted to know if they were still around. He wanted to know their capabilities.

However, his silence was answer plenty enough for York.

York looked at Kita like he was looking a madman. Had he lost his mind?

"You Idiot! What the hell are you thinking? Indulging in this fantasy. Wake up. Face it Kita. SHE'S GONE DAMMIT! She's gone!" Tears started to fall from his eyes.

"You think I don't know that? Do you think I'm not aware of that painful fact?" Kita roared.

"Then why? Why're you indulging yourself in this fantasy?"

"What else do I have? What Else can I do?"
