Aurorium

Kita had spent hours on figuring out what was wrong with the process.

The lines back on B1 consisted of 8 different exotics in total last time Kita checked. But only 3 of them made up the majority. All the others were trace elements.

There were also some unknown elements mixed in, But they were yet to be identified.

Dr. Kbom's recipe consisted of a somewhat rare exotic known as Aurorium. This exotic was known as a fairly good conductor of energy. It's characteristic feature being it's efficiency. It's efficiency increased with the amount of energy it carried. The more energy you putt through it, the more energy that flowed through it, the more efficient it got.

But it was a horrible conductor for lower energy levels though. So, it had really specific use cases in many larger scale projects.

It was also one of the principle exotic used in the lines.

It made sense if one thought about it. The Lines worked with a tremendous amounts of energy. They both stored and transported them all over the planet. So Aurorium was quite a good fit for such an application.

From the logs, It seemed that Dr. Kbom had worked with another researcher to develop this composite.

Once integrated into the FTL drive, in tandem with the special energy transmission pattern Dr. Kbom took from the lines, it really increased the efficiency by 0.3%!

All this seemed to be true in theory. But the actual results that Kita was getting with the new drive wasn't matching this theory.

So, something had to be going wrong.

But what exactly?

Kita didn't have any idea.

There were so many new pieces of tech integrated in the Drive that it was hard to point out a single one.

But for some reason, Kita felt that there was something wrong with the composite. Something about the way it was synthesized wasn't sitting right with him. He couldn't quite point out what.

He wasn't a material scientist by any chance. He didn't know much about anything related to that field anyway. The person Dr. Kbom worked to develop this composite was way more qualified that himself to work on such a thing, But Kita felt that the Aurorium in the composite was being under utilized.

Why he felt like that? He had no idea.

But Kita decided to press down that feeling and kept reading on.

After a few more hours of reading through everything, Kita had finally gotten a somewhat decent understanding of the new features implemented by Dr. Kbom.

Altogether, this new generation FTL drive, Although faulty was proof of Dr. Kbom's genius. He was able to take something so alien and develop a working version to serve his needs. That was simply an outstanding feat!

Kita felt like he could understand the schematics a bit now that he had chewed through all the documentations.

Kita looked at York. Who still seemed to be engrossed in the data.

"Hey, How far along are you?" Kita suddenly asked calling him out.

"Huh?!?" York seemed to have snapped out of his trance like state as he looked around. He noticed Kita looking at him and sat back up before replying.

"Yea, I'm about half way done. I'm almost done with the first parts."

York had been busy with modeling the data and cross comparing with the existing test results from Dr. Kbom.

Comparing the two would give them a better understanding on where to look once they popped the hood of the drive. But it was crucial for them to get a basic idea on what might be going wrong before Kita could even dream about finding a solution.

So It was really important York finished his part before they moved on.

"Okay, keep going. I need a break. I'm done reading all this." Kita said as he stood up from his seat.

"What? You're leaving? Dude. I'm coming with you. I also need a break" York said as he also stood up.

Both of them headed out of the lab.

As Kita came back to his room, Noir jumped on him.

Kita quickly caught him. He looked at him as he asked.

"You didn't eat again?"

"Meow"

"Oh, Come on. Here's I'll give you some food."

Kita had set up a automatic feeder for Noir. He could eat from it whenever he wanted. But it seemed that Noir didn't like it very much. He had used it a grand total of 3 times till now.

Noir insisted that Kita feed him personally with such behavior. He wouldn't eat if Kita didn't feed him.

Kita put down Noir as he grabbed his bowl and took out some high proteins cat food.

This was a specialized food made for Noir's breed.

Noir jumped on the Food as soon as Kita put down the bowl. He began to chomp it down like a champ.

"You were really hungry huh. I'm sorry for being late. But it's not good for you to go hungry. Just use this when I'm not coming." Kita said pointing to the automated food dispenser.

"Meow?" Noir said as he looked at Kita. he was still chomping down the food as he looked at him with his big green eyes.

Kita couldn't figure out what He was trying to say. So he continued to watch him eat.

Noir finished his meal and then moved to the watering bowl that automatically dispensed water. Contrary to the feeder, Noir used it normally just like one would expect.

After drinking some water, Noir jumped back on the Bed as he looked at Kita.

"Meow."

"Was it yummy?"

"Meow!" Noir replied. His expressions looked satisfied.

Noir moved onto Kita's lap as he settled it.

Kita began to stroke him gently.

His black fur was smooth with a sheen to it and felt quite good to touch. So he kept gently stroking him.

It had been a long day for him. A lot had happened and lot more had started. But The empty void inside him still felt the same as ever.

As he sat on his bed with Noir on his lap, he thought to himself whether this void would ever go away.
