Black Blood Mage

Stealing mushrooms and drinking urine is the only way many in the underground and Demon-controlled city of Adonia know how to live. In such a world, how could anyone–much less a young boy no older than five-years-old–survive?

You are NOT the Father!

Hearing the name "Dylan" made me begin to remember something. It made me feel warm, and I felt a strange sense of comfort from it.

Before I could think more about it, Donovan interrupted my train of thought.

"Who are you? What's a human doing here?"

With a growl, Donovan brandished his claws, lowering his body into an attacking stance.

The human looked somehow familiar, despite his face being a disheveled mess.

He put his hands up in a non-threatening manner while slowing his stride to a crawl. When I turned to look at him, he showed a smile that made my heart tighten for some reason.

"My name is Alex. That boy is my son."

Alex

The strange disappearance of the Beastmen and the Demon corpses was certainly off-putting, but all was not lost. If the Beastmen disappeared, I just had to find them.

I searched the area for a long time before eventually giving up to take a break. Walking around the empty city helped me to clear my mind from the anger and focus my efforts on saving Dylan.

However, I soon heard someone speaking. Sneaking around behind the voices, I was shocked, then happy, then confused.

I saw a large black beast wearing tight armor that made me feel self-conscious about my muscles. But that wasn't what was important. Next to the monster was a small boy. Initially, I wasn't sure it was actually him but when he turned his head to look up at the monster, I instantly recognized him. How could I not? That was my son.

"Dylan," I blurted out involuntarily, startling not only myself, but the two in front of me as well.

Emrys

I had never seen Donovan seriously fight anybody before, and I'm glad I hadn't until now. His appearance was scary, but the scariest part was the palpable "aura", for lack of a better word, that he was emitting.

I took a step back, not even noticing my body was trembling uncontrollably; cold sweat running down my face.

"S-Stop! Don't you see you're scaring him?"

Forcing his way through the pressure, the man in front of me tried to stop Donovan. His words sounded like he wanted to protect me, but it was all for himself.

Releasing the aura, I felt myself gasp for air, as a sudden tiredness flooded over my body.

"Oh, Emrys, I'm sorry. I completely forgot. I'll have to teach you about King's Aura when we get back."

Returning to the father I know, he pulled me into a hug, allowing all my fears to wash away.

"Get your hands off of my son!"

Then, the man suddenly ran towards us, leaving Donovan and I to point at each other in confusion.
