The room falls silent and the atmosphere thickens. Blake’s smile fades and is replaced with a look of shock. Autumn’s panicking inside but tries not to show it. Had she known Dustin was already running his mouth around town, she could have been more prepared. She curses him under her breath and throws on a fake smile.
“Jim, please. I just finished telling you what a scumbag my ex is, so what makes you think you can trust anything he says? I mean, shifters? Really? What even is that? It’s just crazy talk,” she adds with a forced laugh.
Jim’s smile widens into a full grin. “I’ll put in a good word with Lana for you when I see her,” he answers, tilting back in his chair. “She will appreciate your loyalties. I assure you that had your ex-boyfriend come in here running his mouth about shifters he would have been laughed out of town.”
Autumn wrinkles her brow and narrows her eyes at him. “If you didn’t hear it from Dustin, then who?”
“My mother?” Blake questions in a low tone.
