Wura yawned and she opened her eyes. She felt extremely tired even though she had managed to fall asleep last night after everything that happened.
Wura's eyes opened wide when she remembered the ordeal of last night as she turned around and her eyes scanned the tent for Mero but she could not find him anywhere.
The couch was empty and all that was left on it was the blanket. Wura instantly got out of bed, she wondered where Mero had gone to.
She realized that she could no longer hear the sound of rain coming from outside which meant that the rain had stopped. Wura wondered when it had stopped because she did not remember hearing it stop, neither did she remember when Mero had left, she wondered if she had truly slept that soundly after everything that happened last night.
Wura sighed as she honestly did not know what to feel right now. On one hand she was happy that she and Mero had managed to clear up all their misunderstandings last night, but yet, she could not help but feel sad that things had to be like this.
Wura quickly proceeded to go outside as she felt a cold gust of wind blow in her face, stopping her right in her tracks as she shivered and looked down. There was a huge puddle right in front of her, if she had taken another step forward, her feet would have been soaked.
Wura felt cold as she rushed back into her tent. She had not expected the weather to change so quickly, but considering from how hard it rained last night, she should have known better than to think that it would still be warm.
Wura quickly put on something that would shield her from the cold. She proceeded to go outside once she was sure that she was covered well.
Wura stepped in a puddle as she looked down. The soil looked rather muddy and full with water, no wonder there were puddles everywhere. The soil could not soak any more water from the rain last night.
Wura pursed her lips. It was not like the heat had been too much to handle, it was certainly better than the strong rain that destroyed tents and changed the weather to quickly, she only hoped that the sudden rain was only for last night, because if it were to repeat itself again today, she doubted that any of them would be able to escape the disastrous results.
Wura turned to look in the direction of Mero's tent, and sure enough, it was gone. Wura was sure that it was probably in the valley somewhere after being carried away with the wind.
Wura looked around as she still could not find any sign of Mero. She began to worry.
What if Mero was not really happy with what she said last night? What if he secretly hated her and he did not want to talk to her again? What if he started to hate her?
Wura could not help as her mind was racing with several thoughts, she decided that if it was any of these reasons, she would accept them gladly. Even though it would hurt her painfully to lose a friend like Mero, if he hated her, he could move on and be with someone that loved him like he deserved.
All she wanted was for him to be happy and nothing more. She hated that she was the cause of his misfortune, why he decided never to be happy with anyone else.
Wura let out a sigh as she heard a guard call out to her but she did not respond, she just kept on walking.
Since Mero was nowhere to be found, she decided to go and check on the damages that last night's downpour had caused.
As she walked down the familiar path to the valley, she could hear very loud voices discussing something.
Wura furrowed her brows as she walked in the direction where she heard the voices and she could not help but gasp at the horrendous states of some tents that she passed by.
They had not blown away, but that would have been an even better fate than the state that they were in now.
The tents were halfway pitched and halfway looked as if they were going to blow away. The material was completely drenched in water and she could see that some of the belongings of the people inside the tent were wet.
"This is really... unfortunate... we will need to get this mess cleaned up before nightfall." came Mero's voice as he and five other guards were standing beside the ruins of one of the tents.
Wura looked up as she heard his voice and in the same moment Mero eyes locked with hers as she stopped walking.
Wura cleared her throat as she quickly snapped out of her daze and she walked closer to them.
"Good morrow your Majesty." said the guards as they bowed to her.
"Good morrow." she responded.
"Greetings my Queen." said Mero as Wura was quick to notice the change in the way he addressed her.
"Greetings." she said as she instantly felt terrible, she was right to believe that things between them would never be fixed, they would only start to get worse from here.
"I have seen all the damage done by the rain last night and it is terrible." said Wura as she quickly made sure to focus on what brought her here.
"It truly is, the rain did not stop until after midnight last night." said one of the guards as Wura sighed.
"This is truly terrible. I feel bad for all the poor people that had to wake up in the middle of the night to seek for shelter." said Wura as she sighed, while she had thought that she was having the worst night of her life inside her warm, protected tent, people out here were suffering in the harsh cold, wind and rain.
"It really is a shame, but with how heavy the rain was last night, I truly expected more damage." said Mero as Wura looked at him and sighed.
"The after effects of unexpected rain." she said her tone sombre.
She could not help but think that if it had never rained, she and Mero would have never had to confront all the issues in their relationship, and now, things were bad.
"Yes..." replied Mero.
"So what do we do now? We cannot just leave these poor people without shelter." she said as Mero nodded.
"That is why I have gave out orders to fix this mess. We first need to dry all the tents and luckily we have sun this morning." said Mero.
"We should be done cleaning up everything before evening." said Mero.
"Alright, but it should be done quicker." said Wura as Mero nodded.
"Absolutely, you are dismissed." said Mero to the guards as they nodded and left leaving Mero and Wura alone.
"How did you sleep?" he asked as Wura looked at him, not knowing what to say. To her, everything had already been ruined.
"I slept well..." she replied slowly.
"I am glad that you did." he replied.
"And how about you? How did you sleep?" she asked.
"I slept well, when I woke up you were still sleeping and you looked so relaxed and peaceful that I did not want to wake you up." said Mero.
"I see... I was surprised when I woke up and could not find you." she said as there was a great silence between them.
"Is something wrong?" he asked as he noticed that she was somehow distant and cold.
"No, nothing is wrong, I am just worried about everyone that suffered last night." she replied instantly. What was the point causing more harm to the both of them?
"Hmm, that is true, but you have nothing to worry about, luckily there were no casualties and everything will be fixed soon." said Mero.
"All we really have to do right now is pray that it does not rain again." said Mero.
"Hmm." replied Wura idly causing Mero to furrow his brows.
"There is something else wrong am I right?" he asked causing Wura to look at him.
"Not at all, and even if there was... it is not important." she said as Mero narrowed her eyes at her, something was definitely wrong.
"No, maybe you are wrong, it might be important, tell me what is bothering you, it is my duty to make sure that you are alright." Mero said as Wura looked away and shook her head.
She did not know why he was still being nice to her, or maybe this was just pretence. Mero was very good at focusing on his duties and nothing else.
"Tell me, I am here to help." he said softly as Wura looked at him.
"Mero is everything truly alright between us or not?" she asked as Mero was surprised.
"I do not know what exactly you mean by that, but I thought that we had cleared everything up last night." replied Mero in confusion.
