Chapter 4 Miscarriage

I woke up early morning, and began to prepare for work. I resumed work, after my body system became stable. I quickly got prepared in other not to be late for work.

Babe I'm leaving,I shouted from the living room, putting on my shoes.

Hold on,I'm coming with you,he said, climbing down the stairs.

Let's go,I will drive you to your work place, before going to my office,he said.

Owen drove into our company,I stepped down from the car and headed towards the building,I pushed the door and entered inside.

Everyone was happy to see me, I exchanged greetings with them and headed to my office.

There wasn't much work to handle on my table, someone has actually been doing my job in my absence.

Who could have been doing that during my absence, I thought, looking through the files on my table.

I know you are shocked to see less work on your table,I have been doing some of your works,a voice said from the door.

He was the CEO's son. Why would he do my job for me,I thought to myself.

Ohh, thank you for your help Mr Caleb, I really appreciate, your effort,I replied.

Are you okay right now? Call me if you need anything,he said ,then he left my office.

Alright, thanks, I said.

Later in the day, Mr Caleb gave me the contract he supposed to handle.

This is the company's new contract,it came in yesterday, so you are going to handle it yourself,he said leaving my office.

Ahh! You are supposed to handle the contract yourself,why you giving it to me? I asked

I have been handling yours during your absence, so is your turn to handle mine. He shut the door behind him.

I stared at the door, but he was gone.

Staring at the files on my table,I went through the contract, how can I handle this together with my own works,I asked myself,I peered at my watch,it was already getting late,I had to go.

I picked my phone and my bag, and moved out of the office, only to meet Caleb at the hallway.

Hold on he said, I waited for him to catch up with me. How was your day at work today, he asked as we walked outside the building.

It was fine, and thanks for clearing loads of work on my table,I would have had alot of works on my table but you lessened the works for me. Thank you once again.

You're welcome,he replied.

You didn't come to work with your car, let me drive you home or would you rather trek home? He teased, knowing I can't go home trekking.

My husband is not picking up,I just want to know if he would come and pick me up, so I think I would board a taxi. You can go, while I wait for taxi,I said. I watched him as he drove off.

I waited for taxi, but none was coming, maybe there could be a traffic jam out there.  I waited for more twenty minutes,it began to drizzle, then I decided to trek a little, Owen is still not picking up his calls.

I didn't walk up to five minutes,a car drove Infront of me,get into the car he said. I looked,he was Caleb.

You should have gone home, why are you here? I asked.

He signaled with his hand for me to come inside the car, which I did immediately cause I was already freezing out there.

He drove off,I wouldn't wanna let you freeze out there in the name of waiting for a taxi. I've been watching you from afar to make sure you board a taxi, but traffic couldn't let the taxis come.

There's traffic, so I will drive through the streets,he said.

Thanks for being of help, I said, shivering inside the car, because of the little rain that drizzled on me.

Here,he said, giving me his coat to put on.

Why are you helping me? I asked.

Anybody could help anyone in times of need, without the person asking for it, moreover you should get used to my help cause is neither the first nor the second time. Infact, countless times.

Just call me anytime you need help,he said.

I smiled at him, and was happy that he didn't let me froze out there.

Some minutes later,he parked in front of my house,he opened the car door for me,I stepped down from the car,he hugged me a little and led me to the door.

I rang the doorbell,my husband opened the door,I came in and shut the door.

Babe good evening, how was work today? I asked, turning to look at him, only to be welcomed home by a heavy slap on my face, for the next five minutes,I didn't know what was happening, I saw myself fell close to the couch beside me.

How dare you? He asked.

How dare me how? I asked,as I stood up from the floor.

I got another slap, this time it wasn't easy on me,I fell with my tummy flat on the couch,as he pushed me out of his way. I still couldn't understand why he was doing all this. I tried to stand up again, but this time I couldn't stand. I tried to stand again, but only staggered,then fell again.

I needed help at that moment, I knew I was bleeding,I tried calling out his name , but he ran upstairs quickly than I expected.

I managed to craw close to where he flung my bag, I opened my bag and brought out my phone, I was going to dial Dena's number for help, but my eyes were rapidly closing,I couldn't view my phone contacts clearly, my hands were totally shaking, until I finally fell down.

When I woke up again,I didn't know where I was.

I peered at the room and found out it was hospital. How did I manage to end up here again I asked myself,I remembered I was having bleeding at the house.

Would aunty Lara be okay? I heard a little voice crying,I turned to the direction of the voice,he was Wisdom. I stretched my hand to pick my phone on the table close to me,to call my husband, but I couldn't, then I mistakenly pushed down the tea cup on the table.

She's awake,I heard Wisdom shout from where he was standing,then everyone rushed in to see me.

The two families were there.

Why did you do that? Do you want me to die before you? Dena asked hitting my shoulder.

Thank God you're alive my parents said

.

After I picked your call, you where saying help, so I called out to my cousin Richard for help. I thought I wasn't going to see you again, Wizzy boy said.

Then I remembered putting on a call but couldn't view who it was.

Is okay I'm fine, I told him.

My husband sat  close to me on the hospital bed, baby I'm sorry he said, I nodded, not knowing that I have lost my fetus.

Just then the doctor came in, how are you doing Mrs Lara?

I think I'm getting better, I replied.

Okay! We waited for you to regain consciousness, before we could carry out other things.

We booked you for an evacuation,I'm sorry we lost the fetus, God will still give you another one, moreover is primigravida, the doctor said. Please sir, you have to sign the consent form,he said to my husband.

I cried in the car, till we got home. Owen kept saying sorry to me.

Why did you do that? I asked.

I'm really sorry,I had something else in my mind, infact I misunderstood the whole situation,he said.

What situation? I asked again.

I thought there was something going on between you and the CEO's son, so I was jealous.

Really? Perhaps, you should have ask some questions instead of acting blindly. Did you check your missed calls? You left me out there under the rain to froze to death, with all the traffic jam. It was that same guy, the same CEO's son that you're jealous of, it was still him that drove me home when I was stranded.

Thanks to you for not letting me go to work with my car, if I had driven my car to work, this wouldn't have happened. And a very special thanks for the miscarriage. I hope you are happy now for having achieved your aim. I cried as I climbed the staircase.

Babe I'm sorry,he shouted from the living room, it wasn't intentional, I'm really sorry dear, please find a space in your heart to forgive me, it's not gonna happen again.
