After a thorough search around the vicinity and finding a whole bunch of nothing, i flew back to where the hatchlings were sound asleep. I may not have done very much physically but i'm exhausted so i join in on the belated nap.

I wake up to the sounds of munching, finding a whole corpse of a beetle-like creature on the thick tree branch i've been sleeping on. Gathered around the corpse are my 2 siblings, helping themselves to some bug guts.

Ugh i really don't want to eat bug type beasts but i'm starving. I get them to share some of their bug meat with me and reluctantly dig in. I'm getting more used to this kind of life but i can't see myself ever enjoying chow time here.

I also could have eaten some of those dead elves now that i think about it... nah they look too unappetising, i'm also feeling too lazy to go all the way back. Other beasts have probably already taken their remains anyway. If they taste as nasty as they look then i'd eat a bug over them anyday.

Nice. Think i'll stockpile some points before using them all up at once, for now i gotta plan my next actions. My parent birds are nowhere to be seen, either they fled as well or their remains were taken by someone. The latter is highly unlikely since the humans and elves were fighting each other while the beasts in the area probably got caught in the explosion and froze to death like those other humans. Even if there are some beasts that somehow survived, i doubt they would even be able to pull off taking her corpse. The beasts will more likely attack the humans anyway.

So this means there is a high chance mother is still alive! I didn't see father the whole time but he is probably alive as well! I wonder how they escaped? Where could they be right now? I don't think hatchlings will be able to survive on their own here, even if there's 3 of us. Waiting around doesn't seem so safe either. Who knows when the humans or elves come back for whatever reason or if some super strong beast finds us, even with our ability to fly, we will end up dead either way. In all likelihood, the stronger beasts will have a trick or two up their sleeves to deal with the avis. First we need to hunt our own food for now and get stronger. If i end up dying i want to at least put up a fight. Then we will have to find our parents, somehow.

I have no idea how big this place is and i've already started to lose track of time. There is no day night cycle here, its pretty much just daytime. I flew to the roof of this place once and there was a huge white crystal embedded there, basically acting as a miniature sun giving off heat and everything. I couldn't get too close because of that but i could take glances at its' appearance.

We had just finished with the beetle but i'm still feeling a little hungry. Another thing i learnt is that although beasts can still get thirsty, water isn't really a necessity. The juices from remains of other beasts are enough to quench the thirst.

I still want to drink water though. I don't want to only drink beast juices for the rest of my life.

Hmm, since i'm in an area that ressembles a forest, there might be a stream somewhere around here.

Alright! It doesn't hurt to look around a little! Hopefully i can find a water source around here and if i don't, i'll just get something to eat since i'm not full yet.

Even so, it might not be safe if i'm flying around alone. I asked the hatchlings through |Avis communiation| to come with me on the pretext of more food. My siblings had also picked up the skill somewhere along the line.

"Forget it, youngest brother. I'm not going back out there anytime soon!"

"Yeah! Especially since mother and father are de-"

Bro bird is suddenly looking awfully saddened but he has the wrong idea.

"Its fine! The enemies are all gone! And mother and father are still alive! I didn't see their corpse anywhere! I've seen it with my own eyes! Besides, if you didn't go back out there then how did you guys get that beetle thing?"

"Beetle? Oh you mean the food that basically walked up to us? You know, if we didn't get up on time all of us would have been killed in our sleep!"

"Thats right! Didn't mother teach you anything dumbass!? You should have waken us up when you got back!"

"Uh my bad."

I then had to endure the harsh scoldings from my siblings.

"Anyways, are you sure that mother and father are alive?"

"Positive!"

"Fill us in on these important pieces of informaton!"

"Give me a break dammit! I was the most exhausted from everything that went down!"

I then gave them a quick rundown on what happened between the elves and humans.

"BWAHAHAHA! WHATS WRONG WITH THOSE CRETINS!"

"I CAN'T BELIEVE THE FLOCK LOST TO THOSE NINCOMPOOPS!"

"Yeah...neither can i but its the truth."

Seriously, how wide can their range of vocabulary be with these bird noises? They might end up 'saying' stuff i don't understand.

I wait as my siblings roll on the floor 'laughing' and making chirpy chirping noises until they calmed down.

"Hahh~ so mom and dad are still alive and well huh?"

"Thats good news! We should go look for them!"

"Its risky though waiting might be better. What do you think youngest brother?"

"I think we should go look for them. I'm sure they will be looking for us as well and since they told us to leave they probably won't search this area for us. And while we're at it, we can also steadily get stronger ourselves!"

"That would be great! If we get stronger, we can get revenge on those jerks and make mom and dad proud!"

"Its settled then, we will go out to look and reunite with them, then we will have vengeance!"

"So are you guys going to come with me or what?"

"Huh?"

They both look at me quizzically.

"Food! Did you forget!?"

"Ah right well i'm full so there really isn't any need to go out right now. I also don't really feel like leaving yet."

"I'm sleepy, mind keeping watch for me sis?"

"Aight."

I'm speechless. What happened to all that talk about getting stronger and making our parents proud? I sigh internally and tell them i'm leaving on my own.

"Good luck youngest sibling!"

"Yeah don't die!"

"Gee, thanks for the concern you lazy assholes!"

"Huh? What is that supposed to mean!?"

I don't even bother with them before leaving begrudgingly as i ponder about what our future will entail.
