Catching Up

"So you reincarnated as a kangaroo kind of beast?"

"What does it look like to you sherlock?"

She has black fur and is slightly bigger than me. Other than that, she's a normal kangaroo.

"Shut up. Stand still for a moment while i look at your status."

"What? Do you expect me to go out and kill other beasts on my own as a baby kangaroo? Mommyroo(short for mother kangaroo) did all the killing and i just ate. Everything tastes horrible by the way."

"Why didn't you just fight with her and land thr finishing blow on the beasts when they're almost dead?"

"Thats crazy talk! I could get hurt or maybe even die! They say an animal is most vicious when it's cornered."

"Pussy."

"Then how about you huh? What level are you.... Level 6!? You're crazy!"

"Well i did have my siblings to help with hunts too and my parent birds protect me too. Except for that one time where i got ambushed by that snake... anyways what's with your intelligence? 40!?"

"Hehe you always did score lower than me on tests."

"Eck! I'm gonna increase my intelligence stat later on then!"

"That's cheating!"

We continue to bicker like we always did and catch up with each other on what happened since our rebirth.

"Where are these bird parents of yours?"

"Oh, humans attacked our flock and we fled. My bird parents held them back and also escaped i think? Now we're going around trying to find them."

"Woah. So humans exist here? Did you try communicating with them?"

"Nope that's impossible."

"Yeah thought so."

"Elves exist here too but get this, they're narcissistic and ugly idiots."

I then recounted my encouter with them from when they finished off the remnants of the flock to their fight with the humans.

"HAHAHAHA WHAT'S WITH THAT? THAT'S HILARIOUS!"

I also told her about how i tried to find water and ended up almost getting done in by green monkeys.

"You've been through alot. Um want a hug?"

"...Yeah."

I then proceeded to wrap my wings around my long-time friend.

"So how did you end up getting carried off here?"

"Mommyroo got ambushed by a pack of wolves when she got too close to the forest. She even tried to throw me to the wolves in order to escape but she died before she could. Can you believe that? I thought i was gonna die. I was so scared Haru. Honestly i still am, everything here is scary but i felt so relieved when i found you, knowing that at least i'm not alone."

I feel her body shiver as she recounts her experience. I just realise now that people might not have been able to adapt to the situation as quickly as i did. It was more likely that they would have a hard time accepting what they have become and dealing with it. Even Delia is most likely to be one of the better examples in coping with this new turn of events. With that thought i embrace her tighter in an effort to console her.

"I thought i was the one who was being comforted here."

"Keep quiet. You're ruining the moment."

We tested the mental link and found out some things. First, it only works within a certain distance so we can't use it to track other reincarnators unless they're nearby. Second, we are in control whatever thoughts we send to the other person with the mental link but the thoughts can leak out when they're in an emotional state just like when Delia first got here. Since Delia is here, the others who died in the plane crash are probably here too. Thus, i now have another objective which is looking for the other reincarnators while also looking for my parent birds.

I've also taught Delia about this world and the system but it wasn't really needed since she already knew about most things. We watched and read alot of the same things because we would often recommend stuff to each other. So she could guess that there may be some kind of system and indeed there is.

"Delia, kick its' brains out."

I said as i flew to where Delia is with a serpens writhing in my grasp.

"W-why don't you just finish it off yourself."

"We need to get you leveled up. Duh. It caused me alot of trouble just to capture it alive."

"Then take the exp for your troubles."

"Delia just kill it. If you stay at level 1 then it will be harder to survive here. Even if you keep getting evo points from eating, your health won't increase. I don't want you to die and leave me."

"F-fine."

I make sure to keep the serpens still while Delia hopped towards it and began smashing its' head in.

"Yuck. Oh i leveled up."

"Nice, we will repeat this until you're level 5 then you will join in on the hunts."

"Erm, do i have to?"

"If you don't prove yourself useful, my siblings just might eat you up."

"Y-you won't let that happen right? Right?"

"Who knows."

"Hey you're joking right? You will protect me if they try to kill me won't you?."

"Yeah guess i will but if you don't pull your own weight then i might abandon you. Maybe you can become a human's pet kangaroo."

"...Haru you meanie."

"J-just kidding."

I may have gone too far there. I quickly apologise to Delia and stayed for awhile to assure her that i wouldn't abandon her before leaving to capture more prey.
