Nathan Returns

Central Station.

A big city like Washington is always filled with people, some come for work, others to live peacefully. There was a big crowd of people and through the crowd, a handsome man slowly walked out. He was more than six feet tall and had a sturdy body. He had a slight smile on his lips as he sipped the coffee from the tumbler in his hands. Nathan finally returned home after eight years. Although he did come to her from time to time during his leave days today was different. He was finally free. He wanted to resign from the army and lead a peaceful life. Leaving the bloodshed and fighting behind.

His tense nerves gradually relaxed as he walked through the crowd. He had two goals now: first to fulfill his promise to marry his fiancée and then to find a pleasant office job so that he was away from danger. As soon as her fiancée insisted on picking him up, he refused. In order to relax his tense nerves, he wanted to take a few breaths before returning home.

Angela was also a soldier until two years ago. She was an intelligence officer with an incredible record but an injury during an operation disqualified her from further service. She returned and became an agent.

He took out his phone but was interrupted when a call came in. The screen saver on the phone was that of an attractive woman with short black hair and a face like carved jade. She had a playful smile on her lips as she leaned on him. This photo was taken when both of them were serving on the same unit.

"Honey, I was planning to call you once I reached home but well you called me first, " Nathan said as he looked around the familiar city.

On the other side, there was a chuckle and a playful sound came out

"You are just wandering in the city right? I will be a bit late because of a case. I don't know if you have seen the news. Victor Sullivan is dead."

Nathan was reminded of a short old man by hearing the name Victor. The finance minister. He had seen him with the president once after an operation. He was a kind old man, unlike all the other politicians he had met.

"What happened? I heard it was a fire in his office."

There were some sounds from the other side and Nathan could tell that she was very busy but she was not happy to hang up on him.

"Yeah, the preliminary report says that the fire is from faulty equipment but something is bothering me."

Nathan was not surprised by her words because once an intelligence officer always an intelligence officer.

It was their motto to always be suspicious of the data they received. Nathan hummed and asked her

"What do you think of the case? Is it an accident or a frame-up?"

Angela sighed as the phone rang.

"The scene is too clean and screams professional. But maybe I am overthinking things, so maybe I should look around for a bit."

Nathan laughed as he shook his head. She was still the same. Logical and to the point.

"Fine. Take care out there and get home as soon as possible. I want to see that beautiful face." Nathan laughed as he could hear the other party laughing after hearing his words.

"Alright I will come home as soon as these things are wrapped up"

Nathan hung up on the phone and wanted to find a taxi to take him home but soon his hands froze. His body sensed danger near him. Years of combat have made him very alert to the danger around him. He walked forward without taking a taxi.

He walked forward and when he reached a storefront with a long glass panel, he suddenly stopped. He looked at the glass panel and he could see the reflections of all the people behind him. Among them, he spotted four people suddenly stopped and awkwardly tried to cover up their tracks.

Although they were dressed in plain clothes Nathan could see their movements were trained. Common people would not have that level of adaptability. Although this was not the first time he was tracked, he was a discharged soldier and although his file is confidential there is no need for the army to track him to his house.

He still walked forward varying his pace between fast and slow at different times. He wanted to make sure that there was a tail on him and that he was not mistaken. But facts proved him right. He was being tailed and all of them looked trained.

He narrowed his eyes and walked quickly and when he arrived at an alley he turned left and disappeared into it.

The people behind Nathan were flustered as they ran into the alley. They looked at each other and nodded as they too spread out and started searching the alley.

They didn't know who they were following. No information was given to them other than to follow him and when they get a chance they have to subdue him and bring him somewhere.

Four of them spread out to search but even after some time, they were not able to find him. However, soon the person on the farthest turned around and swung his hands but it was blocked by a hand. There was a powerful grip on his hand and he wanted to shake it but was unable to do so. The other hand was like a pincer that clamped him tight.

He gritted his teeth through the pain and swung his other hand at the figure but the opponent was too clever for him. The figure elegantly dodged his swing and before he could retreat a hand came down and slapped his neck. He could only struggle for a bit before losing consciousness.

Nathan looked at the figure lying in front of him. The people in front of him were trained, he was correct. The badge fell through his clothes as he tugged at them and searched through them. Looking at the badge his eyes widened.

No way. This was something he never expected.

But soon his thoughts were disturbed as three guns were pointed at him from three directions.

The other three who were following him circled him as they pointed their guns at him.
