Sheer Luck

Just as in the original plot, Arthur located Bradley and paid him $10 million to expose the magic tricks used by Daniel and his team, as well as to find their whereabouts and their upcoming plans.

Regarding the source of the money, Arthur had multiple accounts at his disposal. Furthermore, a significant portion of the $140 million had been recovered and was being transferred back to him. Even if he spent it quickly, there were still creditors coming to collect debts.

For a wealthy man like Arthur, many rules were virtually ineffective.

Before exposing Daniel and his team's final magic trick, Arthur had warned Bradley. At that time, Daniel and his team had not yet severed ties with Arthur or transferred all the money from Arthur's account. They still represented a valuable asset that Arthur planned to utilize in luring people.

During that time, Arthur had handed Bradley a $5 million check.

A slight deviation from the original story was that Bradley, now aware of the true circumstances behind everything thanks to Jack, didn't refuse the way he did in the original plot but accepted Arthur's $5 million check.

In other words, Bradley, who was initially an undercover agent, had received a total of $15 million in compensation from Arthur.

Jack had no feelings of envy, jealousy, or resentment about this turn of events. This money didn't affect him as it wouldn't contribute to his experience points. To be included in his experience points, the mission needed to be successfully completed, and Jack couldn't apprehend Daniel and his team.

Money that couldn't be counted towards experience points was essentially insignificant to Jack. After all, he could make money in countless ways if he so wished.

Right after Arthur had spent $10 million to enlist Bradley in the mission of tracing Daniel and his team, Jack arrived at his doorstep with Hermia.

"Mr. Arthur," Jack began, "I need to investigate your group's financial records."

"You're aware of what just happened to me, aren't you?" Arthur's temper was frayed. "And you come at a time like this?"

However, Jack wasn't about to indulge him.

Regardless of how irate Arthur became, he certainly wouldn't turn green, thick, or large. So what was there to be flustered about?

He'd simply stand his ground!

So, Jack responded without hesitation, "I'm aware of what transpired, but it doesn't affect the nature of my work... Well, perhaps it does, after all. I'm very curious about the tens of millions of working capital you have in your account."

"It's not easy to calculate such a large amount of money in a financial report..."

"Huh!" Arthur snorted angrily and signaled his men to bring in a meticulous individual, a standard businessman with neatly combed hair, a sharp suit, and gold-rimmed glasses. He turned on his computer and presented it to Jack.

"Hello, Mr. Jack, I am Chastain, the financial manager of Arthur Group. If you have any questions while reviewing the financial statements, feel free to ask me," Chastain said, adjusting his glasses.

In his view, someone of Jack's age who had become an IRS employee must have used connections to get the job. But now, Jack seemed to understand how to read financial statements?

It was simply laughable!

Furthermore, Chastain had heard from Arthur that this time, the IRS had only sent Jack.

Consequently, Chastain had concocted a simple narrative:

Jack was the son of a high-ranking figure who had leveraged connections to secure a position at the IRS. However, lacking the skills, he was disliked by his colleagues at the IRS. To get rid of him, they sent him on this assignment with just one individual.

Chastain's plan was to make Jack look bad, leading him to fail the task and resign out of embarrassment.

Chastain thought, "I understand, I get it all!"

Pushing up his glasses, Chastain had already begun devising ways to approach Jack in a manner that would persuade him to leave willingly, without causing any offense.

However, Jack's words snapped Chastain back to reality.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Jack," Chastain said with a polite smile. "I didn't hear you clearly just now."

"I meant this part," Jack pointed to a specific data point on the computer screen. "Could you explain this fund to me? Where does the money flow?"

"...Yes, of course," Chastain replied, his brow furrowing slightly.

He actually clicked on the one spot that had been carefully modified from the beginning?

It must have been sheer luck...
