“Give me one year of your life and I’ll give you the money you need.” Feng Mian is a normal and down to earth modern woman. She just wanted an ordinary life, an ordinary job and find an ordinary man to marry in the future. (Yes, all should be ordinary). But when family matters took a turn for the worst, she faced a huge dilemma called shortage of money. Suddenly, a contract came due to a series of coincidences. Zhang Liang was fed up with his father's (yes, father not mother) matchmaking schemes for him. He wanted to have a peaceful year because this was his chance to expand his business overseas, yet his father didn’t seem to get the message. When an ordinary fresh graduate employee in his company accidentally saw a scene, he decided to take the chance. “Since she has a normal background with nothing remarkable, nothing should go wrong, right?” Browsing through the contract, Feng Mian gritted her teeth. 'Fine. It was just one year of my life anyway. I wouldn't lose a lot.' But was it true? Or would that one year turn out to be a ride full of ups and down for both of them? ... Story set in modern era in fictional country. This story is purely fiction, any similarities with real life's event is purely coincidence. Ring! Ring!
"Yes?" Zhang Liang took his phone and replied as he sat up. His brows creased as he listened to the report from his secretary.
"Brother Liang?" Feng Mian stirred and unconsciously called out.
"Continue to sleep. I'm going first."
"En."
Feng Mian could see Zhang Liang stood up and ruffled his hair. At the same time, he was speaking some words to his secretary. She couldn't hear the content, though. Glancing at the clock, she noticed that it was still 5 AM in the morning. She still needed sleep.
It didn't take long for her to fall into deep slumber again.
Bang!
"Er Jie! Wake up!"
"Mhm?" Feng Mian turned her body around. She sat up right at the time when Zhang Ai walked inside. She had a wide grin on her face.
"You're truly a big sleeper, Er Jie."
"Why are you so energetic when you're the one who lacks sleep the most?" Feng Mian asked amusedly.
Zhang Ai shrugged. "I'm hungry, so my body automatically wakes me up. Come on, let's help Da Jie make breakfast."
"Alright."
Feng Mian prepared herself speedily and walked down the stairs. Even though she still felt sleepy, it was already 8 AM in the morning. Upon entering the kitchen, she could see Lu Di La was holding several eggs in her hand.
"Da Jie! I brought Er Jie here!" Zhang Ai said excitedly. "Now, we can start making the pancakes, right?"
Lu Di La smiled. "You're really energetic, Xiao Ai." She turned her head to the side and greeted, "Morning, Mian'er."
"Good morning, Da Jie," Feng Mian greeted back.
"How about if you help me to make some pancakes?"
"With pleasure."
Pancakes were easy to make as long as they didn't overcook it. They only needed to mix all the ingredients such as flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, milk, egg, and butter. Afterwards, they only needed to fry on the pan with oil and waited until it was done.
There were several stoves, so both Lu Di La and Feng Mian cooked on each of it. On the other hand, Zhang Ai was busy setting the pancakes onto the plate. In each plate, she would place three before adding maple syrup and spoon.
Lu Di La frowned. "Don't forget that Father won't eat the one with maple syrup because it's too sweet."
"I'm preparing two plates for me," Zhang Ai grinned. "Daddy is eating rice with some vegetables this morning."
"There are 6 plates, though?" Feng Mian noticed that they made a bit too much. There were 18 pancakes, which meant that there were 18 plates ready but only four people were going to eat.
"The additional plate is for my snack in the afternoon."
Feng Mian: "…" won't you get diabetes from eating so many pancakes?
"Don't eat too much."
"You rarely cook, Da Jie, so I want to savor it as much as possible," Zhang Ai replied with a grin.
"Xue can make better pancakes than me."
"He's busy making new recipe in the room."
Feng Mian smiled slightly. Now that she thought about it, Zhang Xue was a patissier, which meant that he could cook better desserts compared to Lu Di La. She really wanted to have a taste of one in the future.
"Right." Lu Di La picked the plate. "Let's eat. I'm going back after breakfast."
"Eh? So quick?"
"Even though it's New Year, I still need to manage the hotels. The customers wouldn't want to wait for tomorrow if they have urgent issues."
"Aww." Zhang Ai was disappointed, but she knew that it couldn't be helped. She nodded her head in understanding as she followed behind the other two while bringing two plates for herself. The last plate was already safely secured in the refrigerator for afternoon snacks.
As they entered the dining room, they could see Zhang Xue busy scribbling on a book. He raised his head when he heard them come in.
"You're quick."
"It's not that fast." Lu Di La placed the plate in front of Zhang Xue. "Eat first, we're going back soon. You can continue scribbling your recipe after we return back."
"Ok."
Zhang Ai's eyes lit up. "Are you making new recipe again, Xue Ge?"
"Yes. It'll be Valentine next month, so I have to prepare something for the guests. I'm planning to use that day to create a new type of sweet that they'll never forget," Zhang Xue said proudly.
Feng Mian nodded her head. She had completely forgotten that he was working as a patissier even though he did say that. However, looking at the mess on the table, Feng Mian's lips twitched a bit. Did patissier work messily?
For the time being, I won't be actively check the comment section because I'm in the midst of my end term exam. I'll return back to check daily by the end of this month (June)
