The protagonist and Sukuna is very similar in the way that they don’t have access to their full power right from the very start. However, the sins are not Rey’s true power, and Rey’s true power is mainly limited by the contract. The contract is a two-sided blade, both limiting and providing Rey with a certain amount of power. That is why Rey said that his power is determined by Gojo’s ambition.

The protagonist is still on this “world” persay, but there is a different plane or reality he usually resides in. It will be hinted in a chapter in the future.
