His answer should have been along the lines of ...that is something we can work to stablish in the future... but for now we have enough foundation to be a team.... the direction the Mc character is going does not seem like something I would like but I will give it few more chapters before I make my final judgment

He may have failed Kakashi's test but he did complete the quest. The quest was to get the bells one way or another; so regardless of the result he should still be fine.
