I've been saying the same thing. I dropped like 50 bucks on this novel and now it seems like every other chapter is wrong. I won't be starting any other novels from this author unless I find it on a free site. Screw supporting the author when he's not looking out for us.
So, he gets these level up cards that automatically take him to the next level, regardless of the points required to do so, and uses them immediately? Intelligence really isn't his strong suit. I haven't really worked it out yet, but if he had just used the points he earns on the lower levels, and THEN used the cards, he would be at least 2 or 3 levels higher with the same points. So far this is the most realistic thing about the novel...well, assuming he is American. If the author says he is Asian, I won't be able to suspend my disbelief. (P.S. that was a cultural statement rather than a race based one. Since American schools suck)
I can't really complain about the story, for the first 50 or so chapters it reeks of Tales of Demons and God's, but that's fine because it's good. If your gonna borrow heavily from something it should at least be something good. My biggest problem with this story, is what the author starts to pass off as a "chapter" further in. A chapter should have a reason to start and a reason to end. A chapter here is just an agreed upon number of words. Conversations break off randomly then pick right back up when the next chapter starts. I don't mean like there's a cliffhanger, just regular dialog. I'm guessing the author is trying to hit word counts to make some type of goal for webnovel. It's fine to make money, but don't screw the people who are already overpaying on this site. 2 random paragraphs does not a chapter make. It says there are 439 chapters, in any legit novel it would be around 150. The story has promise though! Keep improving!
Is the author having trouble deciding if his best friend is named Elias or Elijah? Seriously, it changes every sentence. Or, maybe in this novel's crazy world, where teenage girls discuss hymenplastys with their fathers, Elias is a nickname for Elijah....? Seriously author I want to defend you, but you escaped from an asylum somewhere didn't you? Eh, I don't care. This novel is bat-shit insane and I love it.
I like the novel, but so far it's like a darker, R18 version of Everyone Else is a Returnee. Like guardian succubus instead of Angel, two women with powerful families (at least in the former world), Soul Record instead of Akashic Record, blacksmithing...there's plenty more, but I want to avoid spoilers. Granted this story is a lot darker and lacks the comedy element of EER. Not necessarily bad, since I enjoyed that novel, but any closer and the author may need to give writing credit to Toika. At one point this author rips off the copywrite discussion the protagonist of EER has with Lita. Anybody else noticing this? Even the first 2nd order enemy each Protagonist kills is the same. The more I think about it the more I find, and I'm only like 100 or so chapters in!
Just a quick note to the author. Like the story so far. One thing I've noticed a couple times, the word is yo. Like "Yo Dawg". Not yow. Not trying to be a jerk, I know it's a weird word to write. It threw me off seeing it. (I don't think it was this chapter, saw it earlier and a bit later ch 98 I think.) Btw If anyone considers that a spoiler shut up. If you intended it as a unique greeting specific to this world, my bad.
Author: support my work!!! Me: Supports authors work. Author: .......Gets bored and stops writing novel... Me: #$&*#$!!!!! Author ( 3 months later): Support my new novel! Me: Now reads on "stolen content" sites. Synopsis: love the story HideousGrain. If you finish it and it gets published, I will buy 2 copies. Until then, I will continue to read on sites that don't charge me to read bits and pieces of stories that never get finished. Maybe if we novel and authors start completing works instead of the current "take the money and run model". Slightly off topic, but you know I can buy like real (and finished) literature for like 10 dollars, and webnovel wants how much for a 3 paragraph "chapter"? Anyway, nothing against you, love the story so far. Congrats on your success. I hope you break the trend and prove me wrong, but I'm tired of playing the sucker to this site.
Like it so far, try to tighten up the last 3 or so chapters. Basically since he shows up at the mercs house. It lost me and I had to reread to figure out what was happening to who. I would suggest an editor or even just someone to pre-read before posting. As someone who enjoys writing, sometimes things may seem clear to you as the author, but confuse the reader. I know this is late, but better late than never.
