yes but salaries are not neccesarily the biggest part of their income. Their income usually increases with company growth/earnings in forms such as gratuity, bonuses, being a large shareholder etc. Also high end contravts for ceos can just give a portion of company earnings to them

Its the authors super lazy way of adding exposition without quality and foresight. The character can get this information in a way that makes sense but this is random and forced
