Tried to write a short story about six heroes and a demon king.

Hello again here. It's Ofanaht, like before. Yes, yes I know what you want to say.
"But you said you think about it if you write more or not?"
Well, I did just that. But then stumbled upon some of my unfinished short stories and one half page long one gave me the idea that I can incorporate that into this. Which is what you just saw as Volume 2, titled "Origins."
As the title tells, this isn't some separate short story. Instead, I thought it's more fun of an idea to just give off a snippet of a scene from each established characters previous life before they got into the game. I think the end product says for itself, at least I did had fun writing them with how different each characters main trait is.

Story: Tina
The story bit wasn't really different than what it become in the end, I pretty much used 1:1 what was there. The only thing I did was finishing up and expanding it to reach around 1K words, as I planned each 4 short stories will be around that. What I DID change was actually just a small bit, which was the names.
Originally, the twins were called Kayano and Ayano and the girl who stepped out from the crowd was called Hana instead. Obviously I went for the wordplay where japanese likes to name their children in a way, like how in the old times, some family used numbers according to what order they came to the world. As an example, in One Piece, Sanji is named Sanji because he's the third son in the family, which the "San (Three)" implies.
It worked, so why did I changed it actually? The answer is pretty simple. As soon as I wrote out "Well, Hana be Hana." it just clicked in my head that just works way better for other characters. Because of that, in the end, the twins become named around that wordplay instead. Hana (Flower) the calm and collected one, while Hanabi (Fireworks) the energetic and teaser one. With that explained, I go and sit in the corner in shame because of this weak wordplay...

Story: Gwend
Ah, Gwend... this was actually pretty tricky to write. I wrote the first 3 lines then stuck on what to actually do with it, since the only starting point I made to myself is "a boy who flirts" which describe the image I had from Gwend's real life personality. In the end, I think it turned out great.
I thought it will be better to make characters beside him appear to describe him well in a friendly environment. And that's how it become a short story about walking to a cafe for a mixer with friends. That's it for the story itself.
Now what some might guess from Tina's story, I somehow stumbled upon a wordplay again when I named Gwend Shou... which is actually not his name. His real name is Akira Satou (Tina is Aki Akina btw). Then where does Shou came from? A nickname? Bingo! It actually is!
Just like Shou's name isn't his true name, all 4 boys used a nickname there that I just thought is a fun way to give depth to the characters themselves beside a few small traits they have.
The idea of naming them after writing down Shou was that I can use the Kishotenketsu formula as the names, since each character can represent one part from this storytelling way that is used in Japan.

Kii - Kii represented Ki, but I thought it would be too short of a name, so I added an extra i to it. Ki in the formula means Introduction. Kii in the story for me a character that introduced concept or ideas about what they actually do, he was the guy who made the story progress for me more than I could do actually.

Shou - Akira was Shou, which means Development in the Kishotenketsu. Shou is the MC of his own little short story and after introducing the scene that unfolds, he is the guy who develops the story with his own ideas about how his dream girl would be and what he actually wants.

Ten - Means Twist or Turning. This is pretty much the part of a story where the tale turns for the best/worse in an unfamiliar way and starts heading in the climax direction. Obviously, there wasn't much like this in this small story, I only used the word "Twist" itself for the character, because he's a little twisted in his thinking. I know, I go into the cabinet and never ever came out again.

Ketsu - Means Conclusion. Again, not much behind the idea, I just thought it's funny if I name the character who already have a crush from childhood in his tail as the ending of a story, despite chasing after some other girl.

Story: Lei
Writing this story as a 1K word long one was actually hard, so I wasn't even surprised that the end product become longer by half of the planned length.
As I wrote, ideas on how to expand on it just came to me, while my general idea for the story this time around was "a bookworm."
This time I didn't had a japanese wordplay, only a small one with the book in the story. It's more of a hearing one than written, since from Galland the "d" can be heard as a "t" because it's soft, which makes his name "brave."

Story: Nato
While in the stories before everyone acknowledged they want to change in a way, I wanted to write a genuine character who just likes to do what he likes while being successful in that.
I wanted Nato to be a gamer by default, and when this thought came to me, the cogs in my brain started moving and stopped at the idea of making it a video game related story with chatting in-game.
While the story become somewhat of the original goal length, I actually had to slap myself to make it this length. As soon as I got to write about a dungeon boss, I actually started writing a lot more about that than I planned to and the story didn't progressed in the tempo I wanted. I even had the idea to just write out the strong raid, but when it ended right before that with 1,1K word, this short story in itself could have become as long as the whole of "Team Four" even.

Conclusion:
I think there wasn't necessarily a theme in these short stories that in the end become a second compilation, but if I have to name one, it's "Questions." If you noticed, each character in the end questioned where are they going with their life in a way.
Aki with her goals, if she wants kendo to remain as a hobby in her life or maybe she can make it into something bigger since seemingly she's good at it.
Akira and the girl chasing, which was a pretty light hearted question in itself compared to Aki, but I think one of the hardest thing to do is actually changing the smallest things around you and how you do things.
Lei and if daydreaming around books is actually worth her time, if she misses out from something new and fun because of it. Something that one can only regret if misses.
Nato, who was the closest to an actual gamer. I thought after bringing up these small endings about change, it would be fun to end the compilation with the main character, who was comfortable with how he lived. Not necessarily a good way to live, but a honest life is always better than lying to yourself.
I feel like I already wrote way more than I planned or wanted to, so I just end it here. After I already break that I don't know if I will write more around here on the site, what will I do now that this story is finished too? I... I don't know, actually. Really, now really.
I just leave it as "if" I came up with some fun idea that I will want to write out, you will see changes on this series page, since I don't plan to write another short story for the already existing two-part one and if I do, I will do something unrelated.
With that, I will plan to change the title of the series to actually mean short story compilations than just a short story of "Team Four." Until then though, be safe out there.

A short story collection about misfortune.

Yuki Leigh- "What is Running Inside My Head?"

I look around my bed and find dozens of sheets lying on the floor. The pads belong to me as I jerk my hand across the pages, looking for references that I can use for the competition.
Roxanne perches herself on the corner of the room, as usual, playing the same portable game repeatedly. She does not want to switch gears and do something like her hobby. Roxy is the type of person to do things she likes and wants.
Nobody can stop her, not even me.
"What are you going to write about the competition?" Despite her egocentric personality and hobbies, she is curious enough to know about my work and everything around her.
"I think I'm going to make something emotional and sad," I give her a reply, while typing the first few sentences of my chapter. "I want to make my readers feel something, you know?"
Short stories usually have 1,000 and above words. Although there is a thing called "Flash fiction" that ranges up to 500 words, the contest has its criteria that we, authors, need to follow.
There is no required platform for me to write and send my stories to the competition. As long as I can send them my story, the coordinator will include my work as an entry for the competition.
The only problem with short stories is their plot. Explaining the goals and characters is possible to write but onerous to do. I can make the story longer, but it beats the sense out of making a short narrative.
What I usually do is write something simple yet brings mixed emotions to the readers. If an author can pull this off, then the story will reach the reader's hearts in no time.
For my short story draft, I want to write something that can grab the audience's interests. I want to make them remember this sad story, and convey the feelings of the characters.
"Hehehe~," A horrible, evil laugh escapes out of my mouth as I type the words on the online writing platform of my laptop.
"Here she goes again," Roxanne rolls her eyes and resumes back to her game, defeating the boss for the nth time. "Yuki would slaughter their hearts for sure."
It is better to write in a comfortable environment. That specific location allows your brain to work efficiently and more actively than surrounding yourself with noise that rings your ear.
I have my roommate here with me (Roxanne), but I order her to mute herself whenever I am working. If I want to be honest with myself, I bribe her with portable games and shut her mouth in an instant.
"Remember, a favourable setting brings you to the wonderland-where you explain your dreams through words." I wrote that as my author's statement for my first published book.
I had thought about it on a whim, and now I am stuck with that quote linked in my name.
Before getting all this fame, I was once a rookie who knew nothing about writing. Heck, I don't even know how to write at all!
But that thought never hindered me from what I am today. There will come a time that new authors will receive their first haters. Many of them are trolls to pull you down like a crab grabbing its food from the sands.
You will never know, but you know that those are crabs. It hurts once the crabs pinch you with their claws. The pain is nothing compared to reality.
I do not know what I am saying. And that's what I wrote in my book, after all.
Despite these circumstances, I always advise many authors to avoid these scums.
The haters, I mean.
They are not worth the time and effort. You are not obliged to give the bullies a reply. But if you do, then thank these negative people for giving your novel a try.
Who are they to even shame you or your novel? They do not lay the plate down on your table when you are hungry.
Short stories and novels are not much of a difference. Both of them need a plot, characters, settings, and more.
And the most prominent thing that every author needs to remember is the conflict. A good problem drives the story. The readers are paying close attention to the solutions and redeem themselves with the answers.
Authors must write their characters in three-dimensional, or we like to call it "real people" in our vocabularies. They have goals to achieve, wishes to get and even emotions that can relate to the readers.
Villains are one thing that you need to consider.
Antagonists in short stories are not that recommended to apply, especially when you also need to explain their side. And always remember that the villain has their morals and their ways of dealing with the matter.
The antagonist and the protagonist butt their heads against something that they believe. It can be anything that the author could think of, and that's what I do with my stories.
There are times you need to gather your thoughts and plan the story before putting it into words. I know that feeling very well since I write thousands of storylines that I have not glued to paper.
Having a well-made plot drags the readers into the extensive abyss. That novel will keep a reader all night trying to ask for questions, and even more questions once answered.
If the author plans on making a science fiction or fantasy type of genre, then playing with Science is a key to victory. If I remember it correctly, most people call it "world-building". It is to help readers to visualise the sceneries of the surroundings.
Another valuable tip that I usually apply in my novels and stories is to exercise my brain with unfamiliar words. Simple texts are easier to understand than complex words with hidden meanings. You can reach innumerable readers with simple words and plot, and that is alright!
The complex vocables turn the book into a hellish nightmare for the readers. Remember the crab that pulls you to its burrow? Imagine the crab turning into a spider, with its cobs buried underground. That's the metaphor that labyrinthine words do to readers.
And, for the second time, I do not know what I am thinking. I blurt everything that comes into mind, and this helps me with my work!
The last gratuity I do is exercising my brain with puzzling scenarios where I describe something out of the blue. An example that I use for my anonymous readers in my fanbase is "how can you describe the colour red to a blind person?". It is not the best practice, but it helps me from time to time enhance my narrating skills into shape.
"I also need to write that down," I mumble to myself and note every bit of detail running through my mind.
I take a glance at Roxanne, who is still busy with her game. I am stuck in a bottleneck, trying to define the scenes inside my head.
"Hey, Roxanne," I call out for her attention, while tapping my feet on her waist.
"What do you want?"
"How would you feel if the aliens took me away right now?"
Roxy immediately switches the power off in the console and looks at me with a bewildering face. It almost feels like she is about to cry in front of me when he hears the abrupt question.
"Are you going to leave me too?" She finally voices her expressions and wails. Soon, the tears coming from her eyes fill the floor, creating a salty puddle enough for the ants to swim around.
"No, silly," I reply and give her a quick pat. "Reference."
With that single word, she reverts to her older self and eventually answers my random question.
"Then I will be a spy and hunt down those aliens who kidnapped you!" Roxy responds in an elated tone, almost frightening enough to send a shiver down my spine.
"Is that a knife she is holding?" I ask myself, hallucinating a blade sharp enough to slice anything, gripping it in her hands.
I shake my head and answer, "That did not help me at all."
Roxanne firmly nods to my remark, agreeing to what I have just said.
I occasionally ask people what they would feel about something in a situation. Their answers are valuable to me and serves as an option that I can reconsider when my characters get stricken with the plot. I will use their insights into my own and create the following points of the story.
That's how I compile my stories into chapters.
"So, how are you going with your short story?" Roxanne leans closer to my desk and peers at the screen.
Her eyes suddenly shed a tear as it slides on her cheeks as she read the first few lines of the chapter. After all, the story is about a father who had lost his son, whom he really loves.

"Let me colour your world with these words..."

Yuki Leigh, your average teenage girl, has a knack for writing stories. She goes to Japan, together with her best friend, Roxanne. They enrol themselves in the International Japanese School to chase their dreams. Leigh also becomes famous because of her works, making a title of her known as the Queen of Gores or The Lady in Blood. But nobody knows who exactly this “Yuki”-her pen name is since she never reveals her face in public.

Those quiet days instantly change when Yuki browses the internet and sees a manga adaptation of her light novel series under the artist name “Nick”, who she assumes is a student going to the same school, and she is right! She refuses anyone to adapt her story, given that these written texts hold something dear inside her heart.

It is the only source of happiness Yuki has when she feels alone inside her room.

Upon noticing the positive feedback of the manga, Yuki would let Nickson pass this chance only if he transfers a share of his earnings to poverty or charity. That is all Yuki wants to hear.

They sit next to each other and not uttering a single word despite being classmates inside the room. Everything is going swimmingly to the two, not until the student council elections show up. They want to claim the prize of “not attending any lecture in class” following their jobs as mangaka and author.

Yuki then meets Nickson’s relatives, who are not on good terms. She thinks that joining their affairs would make her and Nickson’s situation worse. But her emotions change when Yuki notices Nickson’s sudden shift of mood during examinations or in meetings. He is neglecting his work in the student council, grabbing the attention of the school and the two former student council officers. Eventually, she helps Nickson in her own way. Because of Yuki’s sudden interruption in his life, Nickson finally takes an interest in this light novel author. 

There are a lot of things going on as well! The three join a club, family problems, and relationship status they need to work out.

The club advisor, Benjamin Tsai, gives the author and the artist tips on creating masterpieces of their works. He also becomes their mentor when they feel stuck in a bottleneck. Benjamin is an avid fan of both Nickson and Yuki, so he knows everything about them, including their styles.

Along the way, they meet some friends and make a group together to prepare themselves for the university. If they want to pursue their passion, they need to do well for the upcoming entrance exams. Everything becomes serious and dull, considering they need to plan for their future jobs and roles. 

Yuki expresses her doubts about becoming a full-pledge light novel author, knowing that it will be a risky job for her to make money. Leigh admits she was lucky enough to win the competition before, but what will she do right now that she is losing her popularity as an author? 

This novel is a rollercoaster of happiness, sorrow, and other emotions from the characters. Every reader will unravel their stories one volume at a time, while the two, Yuki and Nickson, commit themselves as romantic couples soon. The story doesn’t need to be fast paced or slow since they will encounter problems and solve them one at a time.

I referenced the characters to the people I know. But keep in mind that I separate their lives and create fictional events on my own. I don’t have any opinions of what the character will do since the story explains everything in the present tense. All of them will have their characteristics, strengths and weaknesses.

How to save a star was intended to be my 'first' novel and not a short story. I was pretty determined to even write a trilogy for it but I just can't continue writing this when I feel like much of the plot was unrealistic and many parts were so cringe-worthy that I wanted to hang myself. In the end, I decided to end this story and rewrite it back to square one. As of publishing this short story, I have two projects at hand that I really wanted to publish. First, Dying Stars, which is the complete rework of this story. I have written a detailed outline of the story, the characters, and their history so I'm hoping that Dying Stars will be the final edition of this story that I really wanted to write, given that this story had already been recycled thrice.  Second is a secret, but it's an ongoing fantasy series that I write under a different pen name and it's receiving a relatively good feedback.

Su Yan didn't think any further. He went to grab his notebook and sat down next to Nie Chang again. He had felt nervous before because this story was his first time writing in another genre but it seemed like the readers like it so he had nothing to fear. Instead, he had gotten back to that happy feeling he had had before whenever he published a new chapter for his readers.
Thanks to that experience it wasn't hard for him to think about a suitable release schedule either. The story only had five scenes. How long could he stretch publishing such a pitiful amount? Especially since they weren't even long.
Well, he could stretch for nearly a week if he only published one scene per day but that would somehow feel shameless. After all, the whole story was already written and the first scene had had only about five hundred words.
No, the best thing to do was probably publishing everything in one day. Looking at how he'd have to get up tomorrow morning and then go to work with Nie Chang where he might not be able to check on the progress depending on how many customers there would be he even felt that publishing everything tonight would be for the best. Thankfully, there was a timer on the website so he could just save them and then have them automatically posted.
The best thing was that when he got up tomorrow morning he could go through all the comments and reviews he had gotten! Ah, just imagining it made him giddy with excitement!
He didn't wait any longer and started pasting the scenes into the website's template. Considering that there were four scenes and that he wanted to read the readers' thoughts to all of them if possible he set the timers to a time with a two-hour difference between them. Like that, in eight hours everything would be posted. Then the readers would still have the opportunity to comment on the last one before he woke up.
Mn, he was such a genius!
Feeling a bit complacent Su Yan wanted to turn to Nie Chang to brag but he stopped at the last moment. Wait! Posting was alright but he still needed to attach some messages! After all, he hadn't announced when the other scenes would be posted.
He opened the second scene again and wrote a short message for the readers:
[Here's the second part of the story already. Since it's a short story I'll be posting the other parts tonight, too! o(*^▽^*)o The next one will be up in two hours!]
He saved the edited version and opened the last scene. With such a short story where not that much happened overall, he didn't need to write something for every part but the last one was definitely something that should get a note from the author. The question was what he should write though.
Su Yan stared at the small space provided by the website. He really would have liked to say he'd be back with another story soon but he had no idea what the system had planned for him next. Maybe it would be something weird? Then again with all the talk about building houses and constructing floors, it should want him to continue writing.
Su Yan furrowed his brows. Wait! Who said that he could only write a story if the system told him so anyway? He'd just write one by himself if the system didn't ask him to! Thus Su Yan just wrote what he thought to be right.

His hands paused after he had said everything he wanted to. Back when he still wrote xianxia he had always included his username as something like a signature below the post. But he really couldn't bring himself to write 'Lao Gong Says I'm the Best' below this message to his readers! Ah, what had Nie Chang done?!
As if he had heard his boyfriend cursing him inwardly, Nie Chang looked over with a smile. "Finished?"
"Ah?"
"You stopped typing."
Su Yan tried to glare at him which only made it hard for Nie Chang to hold back his smile. Mn, who could fault him? Su Yan was really too cute! He had no idea though how he had managed to ruffle his feathers this time.
Su Yan turned back to the notebook and put his username under the message with slight resentment. Then, he closed everything and latched onto Nie Chang. He deeply felt … that another bout of nervousness was lying ahead of him.

For a short story, write down a plot as it will be very hard to make a short story good without knowing what you are going to write. As for a novel, you can make a plot if you want or you can give it time and let ideas flow into your head.

so kind of just writing this to say a few extra words. this was written in a story world of mine that I want to one day share and let others write stories in it as well. this story was just me writing to write down a story so sorry it's short and not edited afterwards. I hope any bad grammar or story telling didn't bother you that much. I was actually going to have friends edit through it so it wasn't as bad, but one forgot and I forgot to ask the others. but I don't plan to make another thing to this, maybe a story in another one of my story worlds buuut not this one, except maybe one on the legends that would be super short. I promise their story would be a lot more interesting. but anyways thank you to the people that read this and stuck with the story!
