Night Fifty Four

Age 1991

The Bestia Macht open its mouth unleashing a massive wave of red and black energy which slammed into Hero, Kitsune and Ken throwing them back through the wall. Ken jumped through the beam her body healing faster than the beast could melt it. She spun around slashing the head of the beast clean off.

Only for it to have turned into snow at the last second.

"What-" The beast back handed her back as she crashed into the brick wall.

Irene stomped onto the ground firing out a wave of ice spikes which bounced off of the monsters flesh which turned into stone withstanding the spikes. Ken jumped back into the air dropping down onto the beast as she let out a loud cry stabbing at it with her black spikes. Irene punched forward shooting a large ice spike but the beast shifted back into snow causing the spike to stab through it and impale Ken who was on its back.

Ken let out a gasp as she fell back staring at the frozen spike that was through her chest. "Ow... God this hurts..."

"God damn it this thing is a massive cheater!" Irene yelled only to be smacked in the face by the creatures tail which slammed her into the wall with a loud thud.

The beast turned back to stare back at the small girl as it raised its claws up stabbing a hand into Ken's gut causing her to yell out. It did it again and again, stabbing through the girl as it began to impale its black spikes all along her body as she screamed out in pain. Then it stabbed one more claw down straight through the girls chest as it pulled back ripping her heart out. Ken's eyes went wide for a moment then she stopped moving falling silent.

No heart...

No life...

She was so cold...

So dead...

"God damn it!" Ken cursed kicking out. "How long has it been since I've had to see this damn place." She sighed.

All around the girl was an ocean of red... She rested in it on her back just slightly above the surface staring up above at the endless black void darker than anything in this world. White liquid dripped down from the black void as the small girl let out a sigh.

"Damn it... I died..." She reached up rubbing at her chest were she had been ran through and had her heart literally ripped out of her chest. "That pain had felt really bad..." She sighed shaking her head. "Worse than anything I've ever felt before... I'm lucky it didn't take out my brain... I doubt I could heal from that..."

The entire ocean of red she was in began to suddenly rise up making Ken let out a loud yelp as something massive began to pull its body out of the ocean letting out a loud buzzing sound.

"Why have you returned here girl!" A loud voice announced shaking the void that Ken rested in. The voice was so loud and strong it began to blow Ken and the water back. The red sea split as Ken fell still screaming as she smacked into the bottom of the parted sea. "Why have you returned!" The loud voice cried once again.

"Ow! You jerk!" Ken hissed rubbing at the top of her head from where she had fallen and landed. "This is why I gave you your stupid ass nickname you bully! You're so rude Labby!"

Standing before Ken was a massive white lab coat. As in a giant white lab coat... It was made out of some thick white liquid flowing together giving its shape. No one was in the lab coat. Instead it was as if the thing was alive flowing and resting up on its sleeves as if they were elbows. It seemed to look down at Ken, where a head would be as a growl came out of the lab coat.

"Screw you Labby! Don't growl at me."

"Stop calling me Labby!" The lab coat exploded.

"Whatever." Ken huffed sitting down as she folded her arms and crossed her legs. "What do you want-"

"Why have you-"

"Stop yelling!" Ken yelled even louder than the lab coat. She let out another huff as she sighed. "It's not like I want to be here. I hate it here... This place sucks, and is creepy... And you always do weird crap when I am in here like showing me all those memories. I'm only here because I died... Again!"

"I believe that makes this the tenth time you've died..." Labby the giant talking Lab coat said letting out a small hum that shook the void. "I see... Your body will heal and bring you back from the dead in a matter of time... Until then-"

"Oh boy... Here we go..." Ken sighed.

"I think it's about time I do what I always do when you are in here. Let's go through your memories... What have you done since you last came here..." The Lab coat announced in a loud growl as several red and black lights shined out of him. The floor began to glow and change as what seemed to be several images could now be seen showing off various memories of Ken's recent events.

The girl looked away from it muttering out a few choice words. "Do you have to do this every time I come here..." She mumbled.

"Yes..." Labby said nodding, which looked very weird since he didn't actually have a head... "You are a Monster Ken red..." His words made the small girl flinch and look away. "At any moment your feeble mind could snap under the pressure of the beast and you could give in to that animalistic power of yours going mad... Need I remind you of the last person who gave in..." As he spoke the image of a girl appeared before Ken.

"...Viper..." Ken said feeling her heart beat faster and faster as she stared at the image.

Labby let out a loud hiss as the image vanished. "It is my duty to be the kill switch. Ken Red... Should you ever go mad and give in, I will be the one to stop you. I'm the kill switch that will blow your brain to bits. I will be the one to save the people you try to kill..."

"Whatever..." Ken huffed. "I'm not some insane monster like Viper is..."

"Yes but I wonder... What would you do if Viper was to ask you to drop everything and join her once again..." Labby had moved standing behind Ken peering over her shoulder. "Will you be able to resist her pulls... You've fallen once... That was why he placed me in you." The Image changed this time becoming a massive black shadow. Mr. Hyde... "I wonder what that new boy you're hanging around will say if he learned of your ties with him."


The image changed once more showing off Hero Law.

"Hero?"

"It's been a while since I've seen Row Law." Labby chuckled making Ken frown when she heard the man called Hero, Row for some reason. "You know... I'd say that boy hates Mr. Hyde more than anyone in the world. Well besides maybe Doctor Jekyll... Oh and there are more..." The image changed showing Kitsune. "A member of the Nine family?" Then it changed into Irene. "Oh and she's cute. I see why you're hanging around these people." It shifted again showing Light. "And him... Light huh. I see that project rebirth worked on him. Shame his new form lost its sight." Then it shifted again showing Emma, Hannah, Jackson, Dawson, Ace, and Shelly. "You think any of these people are gonna be the ones to bring you back from the edge. Do you even know any of them."

"I don't need them." Ken hissed throwing the Lab coats arm off of her. "I don't need anyone to do that. I'm strong... And I don't need you to try and pick me apart."

Labby let out a snort as he moved across the floor and the image once again shifted to Viper. "Still... I'll need to keep an eye on you... If she shows up once again who knows what could happen. Will you be able to control yourself." Ken still didn't say anything as she turned away from the lab coat and crouching down as she covered her ears with her hands. "What are you doing?" The sentient lab coat sighed. 

"I don't want to hear you speak anymore!" Ken said loudly. "You're making me mad digging into my past and trying to put me down... You're just a big jerk."

"No... I'm trying to be prepared." Labby hissed. "Just so you know should you die, I die. I'd rather avoid that. As such I'd much rather you come up with some way to avoid the inevitable that is Viper. If she asked you to come join her right now would you be able to ignore that?"

"Of course I-"

"Think carefully on this answer girl..."

Ken went silent as the Lab coat went through more of her current memories. 

"I'm worried for you." It told her. "I also don't think this is the right crowd for you. Kitsune Nine, Row Law, Irene Glacious, Light... That is quite the weird team you got there..."

"Why does it matter to you." 

"What were those goals of yours again?"

Ken's silver eyes lit up for a moment. "I'm going to find the heart and end this whole pointless war with the Bestia Macht! I bet something that strong can even fix me and get rid of this stupid curse my bastard father turned me into! I finally won't be a weapon, and I can just be a normal girl, and join the Red Church again!" 

The sleeve of the Lab coat came out hitting the girl on the head and making her let out a loud yelp as it knocked her to the ground. "That isn't what I meant foolish girl..." The Lab coat said shaking the closest thing it had to a head as a deep sigh came out once again. "I was referring to that other goal. The personal goal. The very personal goal."

"I don't get it?"

The lab coat let out another sigh. "I'm referring to that need all you humans have. The love life." Ken's face became red for a moment as she covered her face up. "After you escaped Viper you have been looking for someone have you not? In order to spite her so she can't have you?"


"Don't say it like that!" A very embarrassed Ken yelled throwing out a black spike which went through the white lab coat since his body was made of liquid. "Saying it like that sounds bad... It's just... The girls at the Church always talked about love stories. They were kind of perverted... And with Viper it was something like how the Bestia Macht were... Both her and I hated each other and kept trying to kill one another... Absorb one another and kill them. Literally. There was no love, but I wouldn't say it involved hatred either... It was like two beasts who wanted what the other one had. If not for the church I would have come undone and have been devoured by Viper... I came to join the Enforcers for the thrill of fighting and the challenge. I was made to be a weapon for Lancelot of the Order, my father... He didn't want a daughter he wanted a weapon. A pet monster. And that was me." She said staring down at her hands for a moment. "I tried to be good when I was in the Red Church but I made plenty of mistakes and sinned more and more. Part of me wanted to find someone though... Someone who wouldn't view me as a weapon, or an animal. Someone I could actually love, and they could love me. I mean I know that love doesn't work like that and what the girls at the church told me were just fantasy's in romantic novels. Still wouldn't that be a wonderful dream?"


The Lab coat let out a small snort as he flew up higher. "A wonderful dream that will never come true huh? You sounds exactly like him."

"Who?" Ken asked frowning.

"He's not to important." The Lab coat said. "His name is Orion. You've never heard of him and I doubt you'll ever meet him. Well actually sorry that was a like. You have heard of him. Then again who hasn't heard of Orion. You've just never heard him be called Orion."

"You're not making any sense..." Ken said flatly.

"Whatever the case... The healing is done. You can leave now. Please get out."

Ken stood up as she folded her arms. "Right..." She was silent for a few moments before suddenly letting out a heavy groan. "Before I go... I uh... I need your help..." She said in an embarrassed tone as she turned away. 

"I beg your pardon?" 

Ken kicked at the ground for a moment as she shook her head. "That damn Bestia Macht is a big threat! We can't hit it or hurt it! It keeps turning into snow... Just wanted to say its powers are totally bs!"

Labby let out a small chuckle for a moment as he gave off what seemed to be a half shrug. "The beast can turn into whatever it touches right? Well? Just stop it from touching things."


"That's way easier said then done... Whatever I'm leaving..."


"Oh before you go..." Labby moved back over to her getting right up in her face as he seemed to move towards her ear. Finally he whispered. "Beware the one called Row Law... Someone like him will either kill the Heart you seek, or kill the one you call God..."

Sitting cross-legged on the shabby sack at the main street of Jenelin, the girl lowered the hood on her head and laid her back on the wall of the Saint Arstako Cathedral.

The heavy and ragged coat looked big on her small body but she wore it nonetheless, obviously too look poorer than she currently was.

She sat there in silence, looking at people's shoes that were passing by in hoping for one of them to stop moving.

For over ten years untill then, the girl had been living on her own. She had gone through a lot of tragedies and survived many unfortunate situations for a seventeen years old girl.

In the world where you can't predict someone's way of thinking or intentions and believes in whatever they say, she knew she needed to learn to fight, perhaps killing — all for survival, but instead on learning those, she rolls the worn-out sack flatly on the ground and sat there with an empty used can, in other words, begging for money.

She slowly turns her barely visible head left to the sound of a kid sniffing. A snap of memories flodded inside her head and a flash of sympathy crosses her face as she bit her lower lip, not sure on what to do as she turns her head away.

Her eyes roam around the ragged coat she's wearing to the clasping hand on her lap to the sack surface on the ground.

She has no friends, not even once...Well, maybe a long time ago but that's the past.

In Jenelin's street, where nobles and homeless lived — those who're born with a silver spoon in one mouth and those with nothing.

Although she hated the fact and often got frustrated about it, she has to accept that she's a homeless, seventeen years old girl, with no one beside her, and nothing to be dignified of except to be a broke yet pathetic thief.

She brushed away the withered leaves that got into her face and close her eyes to impede the sand particles from making contact with her eyeballs because of the wind.

Then, a chink of coin rang her ears and she quickly averts her gaze to the can just a few centimetres away.

She grabbed it and peeked inside, tossing the coins on her palm and peered at the kid. He's still crying, his head was buried inside his arms and his left hand was fondling his right shoulder, as in comforting himself.

The girl looked back to the coins on her hand, 4 jenúm. For the first time in her entire life of begging in the city of Jenelin, this is the biggest amount of money she has ever collected, though she can hardly buy anything, it is sufficient to survive for half a day.

Sometimes she gets 1 or 2 jenúm but most of the time nothing, and in the end, she always ends up stealing.

Besides the reality that she knew there's no tenderness in most of Jenelins life, and that beggars were regarded as a black cat or jinx they like to call, she still wanted to work for it, for money.

At least she's eager and makes an effort to do what's best for someone like her.

In all honesty, the girl never relished her life of stealing, although she was all familiar with it and it's one of her expertise, it was erroneous, it was never a good thing but an act of sin — to have what belonged to others without his or her permissions.

She glimpsed yet again to the boy, but this time he had stopped crying, his face was now in a full display as his red and swollen eyes are still sting with tears on the verge of falling.

He clutched onto the coat around his shoulder and clasped his hand together, standing on his knees, he started uttering 'please' and beg for the street's people attention.

The girl sighed upon the sight, once, she used to be like that too, the only variance between the old her and present is she used to 'ask' but now, she tends to remain silent.

"I lost my mother yesterday, at least 1 jenúm for survival, please, " he begs but no one spared a glance to him.

Those words, the attention that he didn't get, it was all conventional in the girl's eyes and ears. How unlucky is she to get to witness one of her most ungrateful memory demonstrated by someone else?

Right after the words left the boy's mouth, one little girl with a thoughtful expression come to his sack, carrying 1 jenúm in her hand.

As she tilted her head on his pleading hand asking for the coin if she would be pleased, her mother came to view and wailed, scolding her daughter. From her grand hat to her smooth silk coat to her neat auburn hair to her sleek fingers and the tapping of her heels, she's indeed a nobility.

"He's a jinx! Do you want to bring a burden to our family?!" She yellee and yanked her daughter's arm, her teeth were gritting between her cherry red lips and her face was as red as a tomato.

The girl can precisely make out a hot smoke coming out from her ears. She followed their move as they rushed hooftop to get on their ornated cart as if they've seen something so awful that they needed to be in such a hurry.

From the window, the woman face was completely unpleasant as she fan herself with her hand-fan, eyeing the boy with those beautifully twinkling and pointed pair of eyes.

The girl has to roll her eyes on that, beggars do no harms and beg for pity and money to survive, not to be called as a black cat and disdained by the society, when will people realize that they just wanted to be treated fairly and that beggars never choose to be born in such a way?

'Go on with your beliefs and bath with your money, he doesn't need anything out of a small-minded person like you.'

She raises her hood just enough for her eyes to be seen, just when she thought to start a conversation with the poor boy, she saw him clutching onto his coat in which she's aware was belonged to his mother.

He was murmuring to himself but she can clearly hear it...and how she wished she was deaf. "Why did you leave me ma?"

At that moment, her heart ached, she felt the itch between the skin of her chest and the uneven beats of her heart, she hates to feel this way, not only because she pities him but she sentimentally knows the feeling.

The feeling to be left alone with nonentity but yourself, to know there's no hope for survival and to see how the only person you have died in other people's hand.

And the memories made it's way in her mind.

At the cafeteria, students of different departments were chatting and busily standing in the line for the food. The ones who came first and had taken their lunch, sat down in their desire seats and began eating while they talked about various topics. 

In order not to get confuse among the students, each department had different colours of uniform. The colour of a uniform would help the other students to recognise which department he/she is from. 

The dress code of Angel Academy for female students is a full sleeve white shirt with her department colour coat, a red tie, knee length department colour skirt and black shoes.

For the male students, they had full sleeve white shirt with their department colour coat, red tie, their department colour pants and black shoes.  

SD department female students wore Red coat and red skirt, while the males wore red coat and red pants. 

BM department female students wore blue coat and blue skirt, while the males wore blue coat and blue pants. 

AMD department female students wore violet coat and violet skirt, while the males wore violet coat and violet pants.

The first floor of the cafeteria was for the BM department students, the second floor for SD students and the third floor for AMD students. 

The first floor was mostly filled with BM students and SD department students, while the third floor was filled with AMD department students and few SD department students. 

The second floor was mostly empty with only three-five students sitting here and there.

In the Angel Academy, there was an infamous fight among the SD students and the BM department students. 

The SD department students were people who didn't like to associate with the BM department students, because they (SD) think that they (BM) are not worth their (SD) attention and time. 

So, the students of SD and BM departments do not like to co-operate with each other when they're asked to. So everytime, the SD and BM department students would always hold a showdown to prove that they are the best. 

Since AMD department students didn't want to get involved in the internal conflicts among these two departments, they decided to stay neutral. 

Few of them supported the SD department while some supported the BM department. 

"Hey, I heard there is gonna be a showdown between AMD and BM students coming this Friday?"

"Isn't the fight between SD and BM departments? Why would AMD department come in between them?" a student of SD department asked while eating. 

His friend, who was sitting across him said in a low voice, "I think I know the reason". "Tell me, tell me!" the boy eagerly said leaning on the table. 

(A/N=I'm gonna name the boys as A and B) 

Boy A: "Do you remember Julia Georgian of SD department?", He asked stuffing food into his mouth. 

Boy B: "Isn't she the one who got third place, as the most beautiful female student previous year?".

Boy A: "Yep. Recently there's a rumour ongoing that she is dating a male student of BM department. And you know what would happen if BM students date with SD students". 

Boy B: "Dude, is the male student insane! Why would he date a girl who is literally his enemy?" 

Boy A: "I don't know. So here's another question, do you remember Mike Johnny, who is studying at the AMD department?". 

Boy B: "Oh I remember! He's the one who previously got second place for the most handsome male student!"

Boy A: "Good bro! So here's the thing. Last week Mike proposed Julia in a mall, in front of a large group of people, and for our single life sake! Julia rejected him. Lol.....", He started laughing when he thought about it. 

Boy B: "That would seriously hurt me bro...."

Boy A: "To the point. When Mike asked Julia why she rejected him? You know what she said! She said that she like someone else.Tsk, poor Mike". 

"Then Mike thought that the one who Julia like, was the male student from BM department. So, you can imagine the other part of the story. Mike went to the BM department and blah blah blah... And BM department students fight back blah blah blah... And last boom, Showdown!" 

Boy B: "That's..." 

Boy B froze in his words. He stared at a particular direction without blinking. His friend who was sitting across him turned back. He instantly rolled his eyes when he saw the person, "and there goes Catherine Rain of SD department, the top most beautiful female student of Angel Academy". 

Cathrine and her friends didn't bother to pay attention to their surroundings as they nonchalantly walked toward the second floor. 

While Catherine was absent-mindedly walking behind her friends, a BM department male student suddenly came and stood in front of her. 

She squinted her eyes and ordered, "Move". Her voice was cold and monotone, bringing chills to all who heard her. 

The BM male student took a deep breath and bowed his waist as he confessed his feelings, "Catherine I LIKE YOU! Please be my girlfriend!". 

Gasp of admiration and surprise were heard all around the first floor. All the students stopped what they were doing and stared at the scene. 

Sian smirked and whistled loudly, "Come on Catherine! Accept him!". Yuvi also whistled and accompanied her friend's act, "Accept! Accept! Accept!". 

Catherine's pair of eyes darkened dangerously. She looked at the boy and repeated her word, "Move". This time, her voice was more colder and sounded more scarier than before. 

The male student bit his lower lip and meekly stepped aside. Catherine didn't bother to give him a reply. She coldly bypass him and walked upstairs. She looked at her friends and said in an emotionless voice, "I don't like him". 

Sian and Yuvi pouted and unhappily ran upstairs. Even though they knew Catherine would reject the boy, it wasn't interesting to see the same scene repeatedly. 

Stephen and Robin didn't say anything as they nonchalantly followed the girls. Stephen smirked and nudged his friend. Robin shook his head and sighed, "Fine. I'll buy you a chicken wing".  

Everyone on the first floor sighed and continued what they were doing. Some girls sent sympathy looks to the rejected male student. 

But they were sneering inside their mind. 

One of the boy's close friend came and patted his shoulder, "Leave it bro, you know this would happen. Better luck next time". More like, better go for another girl. 

The boy who got rejected, laughed and wryly nodded. Then he went and sat on his seat as he silently ate his lunch. 

Even though he knew that he was gonna be rejected like others, he still wanted to try. 

Boy A and B, who were seriously talking before looked at each other and chuckled. 

Boy B: "....and there goes our Catherine's 5th rejection of the week". 

Boy A: "It's not the 5th rejection. It's the 35th rejection. You forgot to add the three in front of five". 

Boy B: "I bet she's a lesbian or else why would she keep on rejecting all the top 45 handsome boys in the Academy?". 

Boy A spurted all the food which he was eating. He rapidly coughed and stuttered, "You..Cough... don't....cough....wait...cough...". 

He hurriedly drank the orange juice which was beside him, and took a deep breath. He looked at his idiotic friend and hissed, "She's not a lesbian!". 

Boy B shrugged his shoulders and asked, "Then why is she rejecting all the handsome boys? If she's not a lesbian, then I think she is a guy, cross-dressing like a girl". 

Boy A wanted to give a good beating to his friend. He wondered how this idiot friend of his, got to pass for the past 2 years. "Don't you know the rumours?", He asked incredulously. Boy B shook his head. 

Boy A: "You literally don't know the rumours about Catherine and the most handsome male student of Angel Academy?". 

Boy B: "Nope" 

Boy A: "Sigh, leave it. If you know about Julia Georgian and Mike Johnny, then you would know who is Charles Davis right?". 

Boy B: "Only people living under a stone would not know him. Charles Davis, the step-brother of CEO Charles and the Academy's top most handsome male student". 

Boy A: "There you go! So, here's the news. There is an unspoken rumour that Catherine and Charles are in a secret relationship. Even though it's not mostly discussed among the students, everyone believes that they are dating for real".

"Ah, I also heard that they are gonna get engaged!". 

Boy B: "Bro, I think I'm gonna die single" 

Boy A: "Don't worry... Give me one of your most handsome photo" 

Boy B: "Huh? For what?"

Boy A: "I'll upload your photo in WeChat and we can easily find out which ugly is interested in you".

Mia placed the music sheet on the music stand. Then she dragged a chair, sat in front of the piano and placed her headset around her neck. She took in a light breath and then started to play the piano. Her white slender fingers against the black keys were contrasting.

She stopped the music and rubbed her cheeks. "It's so horrible...!", She covered her face and mumbled in a crying tone. She felt the tune was wrong... It was not right...

As the Red Coat was disintegrated by the kinetic force running through its body, a wave of earth and air was formed that slammed into the Red Coate that had been running behind it. The Red Coats that were in the front of the group were immediately killed, and only those that were farther back managed to survive. At least for a few seconds before a roaring inferno of flames descended upon them with Robert in the middle of it. Robert slammed into the ground, creating a large crater before he jumped out of it and slammed his war hammer into the ground at the feet of one of the Red Coats. 
'Pfft,' The Red Coat laughed, thinking that Robert had missed. Controlling its black needle, the Red Coat attempted to pierce it into Robert's heart.
