The pathway had a covered from the sun and rain and each side had a mini bench separated by the metal poll who supported the roof of the pathway, currently no students sitting on bench nor student on outside well because sora probably late and each student  probably on their room














Sora Finally reach the Faculty room and entered apparently there's an old man wearing an eyes glass due of the poor eyesight and his hair was all white and looks like he waiting for Sora

Chang Seol yawns. "When is the train coming?"

It's been a day since she turned for the first time. So far, she's normal… except for the fact that her senses are stronger and her strength has increased. 

Furthermore, her sight is still strange. Seeing weird colours around people is annoying.

When will the train come? Chang Seol checks the time on her wristwatch. Is going back home a good idea? She doesn't know what will happen, but she needs to talk to her family. 

"Requesting all passengers to reach platform thirteen!" A cold mechanical announcement alarms her. "The train is arriving at the platform."

Nobody reacts to the announcement except for Chang Seol. The booming sound of the locomotive heralds the arrival of an old and decrepit train. Chang Seol creases her forehead while keeping her eyes fixed on the train. The windows are curtained. 

Do they still run these? Chang Seol scrutinizes the vintage train in awe. "Maybe it's a special day today."

She glances at her wristwatch again. It's supposed to be the last train. Just then, the train door opens and the trainmaster comes out.

Wondering whether this train goes to U City, Chang Seol goes to the trainmaster, an old man dressed in a black uniform. His ghastly yellow skin is full of wrinkles. The black beady eyes make her shudder. 

"Sir, does this train go to U City?" Chang Seol asks him politely. Why is he staring at her like this? Is she an alien? Then again, she's nothing less than an alien. She shows her ticket to him. "I need to go to U City."

"The next stop is U City," The trainmaster replies in a monotonous tone. "Do you want to ride this kind of train?"

Chang Seol doesn't realize that the platform is nearly empty. Only she and the trainmaster are there. She takes a breath of relief. "As long as it takes me home, it doesn't matter what kind of train it is."

The old trainmaster smiles at her. "Happy Journey."

She thanks him with a soft voice and boards the train. Inside the coach, she realizes that the coach is empty. Maybe it's because this is the last train. Chang Seol sits near the window and tries to pull the curtain away. 

The train starts moving slowly. 

"Don't do that." An irritated voice interrupts her. "The lights make me dizzy."

Chang Seol looks at the girl sitting opposite her.

Dressed in a black robe, the dark-haired girl seems to be around her age. Her thin and long neck along her long pale face with a pointy nose makes her look like a crane. 

There's a small black bag on the adjacent seat.

When did this girl come? How come she didn't notice this crane-girl? Chang Seol fixes the curtain on the window as she smiles apologetically at the girl. "Sorry."

"You seem new." The girl's dark hooded eyes twinkle curiously. "I am Saya."

Saya? Chang Seol blinks her eyes. "Chang Seol."

"You sound like you are still carrying your first name." Saya sighs. "Seol is a nice name."

Chang Seol furrows her brows. "First name?"

"The name that your parents gave you," Saya replies lazily. "Where are you headed to?"

"U City." Chang Seol wonders if Saya has changed her name. "Where are you going?"

"The same." Saya stretches her arms, arching her back. "I got myself a burden when I was careless."

Strange... Chang Seol stares at Saya. There's no colour bubble around her. 

"Actually, what happened was,"  Saya picks up her bag carefully and lays it on her lap before she opens it slowly and she exhales, "someone put this in my bag when I wasn't looking."

Chang Seol opens her mouth wide when she sees the item -- it's a black egg that is bigger than an ostrich egg. "Which bird is it?"

"It's a cockatrice's egg." Saya leans back in her seat, gazing quietly on the egg. "I should have guessed why the cockatrices were chasing me. They wanted their egg back."

"..."

" what in the bloody world just happened?" exclaimed the girl as she let in and out her hand on the magical wall tom sr. look around to see that the others seems not bothered by this it's as if both he and the girl were invisible as they look in the wall with total disarray  , the girl and tom look at each other thinking of the same thing ,
they both ran forward and they wen't through the wallin an instant and bustling crowd can be seen they look up to see a sign platform 9¾ with golden rims on either sides .

"Sis have you seen this platform before? " said tom sr. to the girl and the girl just shakes her heard and stares at their surroundings in awe as floating objects can be seen  above people's head as if its controlled by mere sticks 

" alohomora " said one girl as she pointed her stick on her briefcase  and then it opened in an instant .
and then a crown of female students started gossiping about a certain riddle 

"isn't it marvelous that we are able to see riddle again " said a female with gelam on her eyes 

" indeed , such blessing to the eyes, i would kill just to have his babies ugh" said the second female  staring at tom jr. with lustful eyes ,, 

" i know right it would be a blessing to have the last heir of slytherin's babies " said the first female with a smile ..

tom riddle jr walks elegantly with his friends ,abraxass parkingson with an emotionless look on his face , 

" The train Will leave in 10 minutes "shouted the patron every students ran to the door of the train(vestibule) to be not left out and tom is the first one to get in   , tom sr is actually scared of this witches and wizards because he might get cursed or worse became infatuated with someone like what her last wife did.

tom sr. is actually curious about what is inside the school his son goes to so he did the unexpected and left the girl he is with on the patform and went inside the train with the other students , 

"tom!" the girl tom sr. is with exclaimed as he lwft her alone in the area , after a few moments the train finallymoves leaving tom sr. trying to balance himself inside the train some students stare at him  and whispered to each other  

some student probably already notified the higher ups about this incident , a muggleborn adult has went inside a student express without any notice and that' s againts the rules , tom sr. waited and waited as he stood om the far coner of the train waiting for it to stop after an hour or so the train finally arrives at their destination , 

" SOMEONE INTRUDED THE TRAIN"  said one of the students that was wearing a yellow  cloak , probably a ravenclaw tom jr. tought as he sat on his compartment alone doesn' want to be bothered by anyone at all as the other students made their way out of their humble compartments and left the train , tom jr. was the last to leave as he fix his tie  , still wondering what sort of stupid being intruded the magical train .

" Riddle" professor dumbledore called to Tom calmly 
" what is it professor  " said tom trying to be as polite as possible well he has a reputation to uphold amongst the professors 
" there is said to be an intruder inside the train can you check who it is  " said dumbledore with a smile plastered on his face   "ok professor" tom said politely bowing a little ,  ' why the fuck couldn't he check it himself , i am a student for fuck's sake , what if the impostor who dare to intrude the train is a suicide bomber and killed him  then he is fucked up ' said tom as he furrowed his eyebrows after he make his way inside the train , tom used his want to open the doors non verbally to check each compartment and then he is on the final compartment in the end of the train and then he blasted the door open with a flick of his wand .

tom saw the person inside and it's no other than the person who said that he is his father , but tom didn't care  , tom with a spell nonverbally carried the man out of the compartment and brought him to dumbledore 

"professor i found the intruder" riddle sajd as he push the man to look at the professor   " do you know him tom " said the professor calmly and tom just said "no professor  i suppose not , it's the first time i saw this man" but that was far from the truth ,  the man who is  suppose to be his father is actually wearing an expensive coat woven with expensive fabric

" well then bring him to hogwarts for further interrogation  " said Dumbledore to tom with a serious tone , tom riddle just furrowed his eyebrows , he doesn't want to touch a mudblood especially his father , tom just pulled the man by the arm and brought him to hogwarts , he grip the arm tightly that will probably even leave a bruise .  

when they finally arrived at hogwarts dumbledore can be seen from far away waiting in the door of  the castle of hogwarts to greet them all and show them the person who dare intrude the magical word without any notice .

they arrived on the door and Dumbledore spoke with authority " as you all know someone intruded the magical express without any notice" said dumbledore calmly all 5he students look at the new face which is the man who is the father of tom riddle but of course tom has a pride like no others so he will not tell them if he is related to the man

"as you all know he is a muggleborm who lost his way  and accidentally went through the sacred wall." dumbledore said looking at the intruder 

" professor what are we going to do with him?" said pansy with a raised eyebrow

" there train only arrives thrice a year on the platform 9 ¾ and that is when school starts , christmas break  and when the school year ends " said dumbledore looking at pamsy with a smile 

" but the chrsitmas break is four months away" said one of the hufflepuffs raising its hands

" exactly so one of the students will have to share a room with the intruder " the students groans and some even rolled their eyes " what if he did soemthingw rong like raping one of the female students or doing mischief inside the school" said one of the ravenclaws , mind as sharp as always because they have to be wary because the intruder must be up to no good


" then one of the male students have to share a room with the muggleborn to the ravenclaw who asked the question
, the students just grumbles and groans , 'cause who would want to accompany an intruder right , no one raised their hands, no one volunteers to accompany the intruder ..dumbledore was left with no choice but to choose his favorite student 'tom riddle' who is standing far away from the man not even wanting to get near .

Garen's heart skipped a beat. If his senior sister was only at the master level of Secret Martial Art, would it mean that he was comparable with his senior sister right now?
"However, why aren’t there any changes to my body after combining them? In any case, I spent two Attribute points! There should at least be ripples even if I threw it into the water..."
This was what he was most confused about.
At that moment, the girl sitting across him opened her eyes and slowly woke up. She sleepily looked toward the master and disciple sitting across her and friendlily smiled toward them.
Garen smiled back at her.
"Are you going to Hela City as well?" the girl whispered.
"That's right, are you heading there as well?" Garen replied.
"That's right, why are you going there?" The girl brushed away her hair that was covering the side of her face. "With your age, are you going there to enroll?"
"Uh." Garen did not know how to respond. Could he just tell her that he was going to participate in a martial arts exchange gathering? It was actually forbidden to divulge the martial arts exchange gathering to outsiders since it was confidential.
Seeing that he did not reply, the girl smiled and assumed that her guess was right. From the looks of it, she probably assumed that Garen was a new student being sent to school for enrollment by his father.
"What about you? Are you going to Hela for a vacation?" Garen asked as his gaze slightly sized up the girl.
With long silvery hair coming down from her shoulders, the girl wore a white lace dress and gave off the aura of a magnanimous and refined lady. Her skin was fair and tender like it was coated with a layer of white powder. It was fine and smooth to the point where there were almost no imperfections.
The girl was like a young lady who went for an outing and gave off a very cultured and pure feeling. Even though she was not very pretty, this sort of quiet and graceful aura was abnormally rare.
Garen was reminded of Felicity who had just left Huaishan a while ago. She was different from the girl in front of him. If you judged her from her appearance, you would think that she was a haughty, dazzling, and beautiful young lady.
However, he was slightly baffled by the fact that the girl in front of him had coarse hands, which was completely inconsistent with her aura and the way she dressed.
"We're not going for a vacation. We're also going to enroll at the school. However, we're going there earlier to learn more about the local culture," the silver-haired girl smiled as she replied Garen's question.
Garen nodded in acknowledgment.
"Where did you set off from?"
"We started from Xining. Before you got on the train, we've been riding for over a day and a night." The girl covered her mouth and lightly yawned. "Oh… I am so tired. Even though I've been sleeping for so long, I still feel very tired."
"If you've only been sitting like this, then it would definitely be tiring." When Garen saw her yawning, he felt a little sleepy as well.
As the two of them had no other common topics to talk about, Garen turned his face over to look at the scenery outside of the window. A yellow beetle car was driving alongside the train at the same pace. The driver of the car was a man wearing an army uniform with aviator goggles on. He was glancing toward the train from time to time.
"That's the navy uniform of the Confederation. From the badge on his chest, this man should be a lieutenant in the Navy."
"Navy of the Confederation?" It was the first time Garen saw a regular military personnel of the Confederation, and he could not help but glance a few more times.
The train gradually surpassed the soldier's car, and Garen was feeling slightly tired just from watching the scenery as well. He looked beside him at his master and discovered that Fei Baiyun was sleeping soundly with his head tilted to the side.
Garen drowsily dozed off and slowly woke up after an undetermined amount of time.
The sky outside of the window had already turned dark, and the interior of the train carriage was slightly noisy. In the middle of the aisle, an attendant was slowly passing by while pushing a food cart.
"It's time to eat!"
Within the train carriage, there was a sparse amount of passengers. Some of them were yawning, while some stood up to buy food, and there were others that took out their own food to eat. Garen even heard children's voice yelling in a dialect that he did not understand.
The silver-haired boy sitting across of him had already woken, but he was not as friendly as the girl. He only faintly glanced at Garen and his master and did not converse with them.
His master, Fei Baiyun, was taking out a small sack that contained some cakes, bread, and two bottles of tea.
"This is dinner. Take it yourself."
Garen speechlessly looked at the cakes and bread that was crumpled together and almost could not differentiate between the two. He was completely without any appetite as he looked at it.
"Master… There's no reason for this… It's not like we don't have money..."
"What do you know!" Fei Baiyun glared at him. "This is something that someone had kindly made for me! It's not about the money!" as he spoke, he seemed to remember something, and a slight redness faintly appeared on his face.
Garen had a slight urge to puke… Looking at an old man foolishly smiling while blushing was indeed a little disgusting.
However, he still took a lump of cake that looked like bread and a bottle of black tea and placed them on his lap.
"Master's second spring..." He already knew who made the food. It was obviously master's lover.
He lowered his head and looked at the thing in his hand. Garen was still hungry a while ago but no longer had any appetite.
The silver-haired siblings sitting across of them were currently eating exquisite-looking buttery apple cakes while drinking coffee from a porcelain cup. The redwood lunchbox contained all kinds of pastries that were neatly arranged. There were red cherries, baked banana chips, pink cream, light yellow sponge cake, and a few pieces of vegetables as decoration.
Just based on the appearance, it was far superior to the thing in his hand.
As Garen looked at the lump in his hand once more, his appetite dwindled even more.
Fei Baiyun, the owner of a gigantic dojo that earned tens of millions per year, was currently eating such a wretched meal on the train.
Garen could not help but disdainfully look toward his master sitting beside him. He was stunned when he realized that his master had already finished the thing in his hands within a few bites and seemed to be choking as he guzzled the bottle of black tea.
As Garen looked at the soft and mud-like thing in his hand once more, he firmly decided not to eat it. He lifted up the bottle of black tea and drank a mouthful. Fortunately, the black tea was sweet since sugar was added and his hunger was satiated after drinking it. The only problem was that he had no idea how long that would last.
The sibling sitting across of them saw the scene and could not help but smile. Even the silver-haired boy was unable to continue pretending to be cold.
"If you don't mind, there's still some pastries in my lunchbox. Please try some," the silver-haired girl softly said to Garen.
"How could I do that.' Garen was originally planning to sneak out and buy food with his own money, but he was immediately tempted when the girl pushed the lunchbox over and smelled the rich buttery aroma drifting out.
They only ate half of the contents of the lunchbox, while the other half of the exquisite pastries were left untouched. The exterior of the pastries was attentively wrapped with a layer of plastic paper, so he could directly pick them up with his hands and eat. It looked clean and hygienic.
"It's okay, as long as you don't mind. I can tell that you forgot to prepare your own food," the girl gently smiled and said.
Garen sneaked a glance at his master.
"Since it's the kind intention of others, just eat it!" Fei Baiyun speechlessly slapped Garen on the head. When he looked at the exquisite pastries within the lunchbox and compared it with what he ate just now, he was feeling slightly imbalance in his mind.
"Thank you so much."
Garen gave a hollow laugh and received the lunchbox. He lightly lifted up an almond cake and took a bite. It tasted very aromatic and had a very fluffy texture. There was also a trace of almond flavor mixed inside.
The pastries within the lunchbox that were as big as his fist were eaten by Garen within a few bites and were quickly finished. He was originally prepared to hand one over to his master, but Fei Baiyun was obviously embarrassed about eating something from a younger generation and benefited Garen.
He managed to finish all of the pastries in the lunchbox within ten minutes. The siblings sitting across him were dumbfounded as they watched him.
"It's much more delicious than what they sell on the train. Thank you very much." Garen placed the lunchbox on the small rectangular table between the seats and gently pushed it back. "Sorry, I couldn't stop after I started eating..."
He was already very hungry, and the pastries inside the lunchbox were indeed very delicious. It was the first time Garen had tasted pastries that were this delicious, and they were much better than the ones sold outside.
"Is it really that delicious?" A smile appeared on the girl's face.
"They're very delicious." Garen nodded. "They're so much better than the ones being sold outside. Could you tell me where you got them? I'll definitely patronize the store next time!"
"It's good that you like it..." The girl was obviously very happy as she lowered her head in embarrassment and said, "I didn't buy them. I made them myself..."
The silver-haired boy sitting next to her was pouting as he muttered, "What's so delicious about it, is there a need to exaggerate so much? Really... "
"You actually made them yourself?" Garen was slightly surprised. "How remarkable. With this kind of skill, you can open your own store."
"You're kidding!" The girl was slightly embarrassed after being praised.
The boy sitting next to her immediately rolled his eyes. "You think that it's delicious when it's only at this level? What a country bumpkin..." He was in a bad mood as he looked at the muscular and tall young man sitting across of him. Even though there was not much of a difference in their age, there was a sharp contrast when they sat together as the other party was at least twice as muscular as him. Also, the moment he got on the train, he was looking around like he had never been on a train before. When he was eating just now, he was eating so fast that it seemed like he had never eaten anything for over ten years. 
On the other hand, Garen and the girl were vigorously chatting. The two of them had already changed topics from pastry tips to the books they liked and their topics were endless. Next to them, Fei Baiyun and the silver-haired boy were bored and began to doze off once more.
With nothing to do on the train, they could only take a nap.

Two days later.
Hela City Train Station
As a screeching whistle rang out, the mahogany train gradually came to a stop.
With a loud bang, a conductor vigorously pulled open the door of the train carriage. "Passengers bound for Hela City, it's time to get off!"
Within the train carriage.
"It's time to get off." Fei Baiyun patted Garen on the arm and was the first to stand.
Garen quickly pulled out a red leather suitcase from underneath their seats and stood up.
"We're finally here. Are you getting off as well?" he asked the silver-haired girl. The both of them had become quite familiar after chatting a few days.
The sibling sitting across them had brought out a small, black leather suitcase as well.
"That's right. Actually, we went to Xining for a vacation, and we're going back home now." The silver-haired girl embarrassedly smiled.
"I already knew it." Garen laughed and said, "While we were chatting the past two days, you were obviously more familiar with Hela and knew little about Xining. Alright, let's get off."
"Alright."
The four of them left their seats and followed the sparse stream of passengers toward the exit.


One moment, Luo Jing was at the brink of death after accidentally touching a power outlet while showering. The ground trembled beneath the feet of Kaka. He realised that his wait was about to over. The train engine snarled from a distance announcing it's arrival. As Kaka heard the chugging sound, his heart raced with the excitement. He waited with a baited breath to get the first glimpse of the girl with whom  his marriage had been fixed. It was an arrange marriage, an age old tradition in India which refuses to go away. 

However Kaka's meagre salaried job didn't leave much scope for him to be choosy. The girls today were smart and demanding. They wanted a home, good salary and a committed man, all bundled in one. Kaka could assure of the last quality but was pathetically lacking in the first two qualifications.  

The black engine began to appear at a distance as it gradually made away towards the station. The engine howled again and Kaka checked the red indicator to make sure he is standing under the correct wagon number. 

'Train number 101 from Betul to Unnao arriving at platform no 1,' the loudspeaker echoed driving a frantic activity amongst people waiting on the platform. The engine lumbered in against the platform and the red shirt wearing coolies raced with the it to pounce on the clients for carrying their luggage. 

The train finally stopped with a screech and passengers began to throng out. The platform suddenly came alive with the pandemonium of passengers alighting from the train and blending with waiting relatives and passengers waiting for the next train for departure.

Kaka eagerly gazed through this crowd, hoping to find Uncle Kishen, his young sons and a girl they are bringing from their village. 

'Eager!' a voice teased with a  naughty chuckle. It was Papu, Kaka's father's younger brother, standing at his side on the platform. Kaka blushed in response unable to hide his excitement.

'There they are,' Papu shouted at a group alighting from the train. 

Kaka's eyes immediately spotted Uncle Kishen and his two sons alighting from the steps of train wagon. Suddenly uncle Kishen gave hand to a girl and helped her step down from the steps. The slender 22 year old shy girl's head was drooped down in anticipation and nervousness. Kaka's eyes were fixed at the girl, he was dissapointed that she wasn't looking up. 

'Namaskaar Kishen bhai,' Papu shouted and then patted on Kaka's shoulder castigating him, 'what are you staring at? Let's help them with the luggage.'

'Ye..ye.yess,' Kaka stuttered and quickly stepped towards Kishen uncle and his sons. 

'Pranam uncle,' Kaka touched Kishen uncle's feet in obesiance and took the bag from his hands. 

'God bless you with long life,' Kishen touchef Kaka's head and then looked at Papu and spoke, 'the train was right on time today!'

'Yesss...and you look to be getting younger and younger...,' Papu jested triggering an uproarious laugh from all. In this din, Kaka glanced at the shy girl standing with her head drooped down. Finally she had to look up as uncle Kishen prodded her, 'touch Papu's feet beta he is your would be husband's uncle'. The girl stepped ahead to to touch Papu's feet. It was at this moment that Kaka got the first glimpse of dusky girl, with sharp eyelashes, nose and lips that were a shade between brown and red. 

'It's allright beta...God bless you with happiness always,' Papu spoke excitedly.

Kaka felt a rush inside him at the first glimpse of the girl selected for him as life partner. 

'Ok so let's move quickly. Kaka's father is eagerly waiting for us,' Papu prodded and everyone began to move out of the platform with luggage in hands. 

Uncle Kishen and his sons were a few steps ahead, the girl in between, followed by Kaka and Papu. 

'The girl's complexion is dark. Should we get her married to someone else,' Papu mumbled in Kaka's ears. 

'No!' Kaka uttered in a soft but resolute voice.

Summer vacation passd by very quickly. With the fall of Grimaldus, there were no further attacks, and I could devote a lot more time to training my charges.
I say that, but in the end I didn't do that much. For most of the three-month summer vacation, I had returned to Jing Tian City and spent time with my dad. Adrian and Melina came over to visit – particularly Adrian – and they did receive a few training sessions in Dad's dojo. Obviously Melina couldn't spend too much time in Jing Tian City, so she was only here for a few weeks.
Then everything was over, and I had to return to Flandor City to resume my exchange program. On the train, I read up on the destruction of Grimaldus with some form of satisfaction.
"Serves them right," I muttered under my breath and scrolled down the screen of my smartphone. There wasn't much for me to do except read, so I took out my Kindle and began reading for fun. I wanted to return to the forty-first millennium, where humanity reigned ass the dominant force in the galaxy, battling heretics, xenos and daemons from the warp.
Then the train suddenly rolled to a stop. The lights flickered, causing me to glance up. I frowned and glanced about, noticing that the only other passengers in the carriage was a middle-aged salaryman and a girl in a high school sailor uniform, her long hair tied into braids. In the dim moments when the lights alternate between on and off, I could have sworn I saw her eyes glow red in the dark.
"What's going on?" I murmured with a frown, my hands automatically reaching for my two swords. The high school girl in a dark blue sailor uniform was also carrying a sword, which was not all that unusual, given that we were all combat mages training in magic academies. I didn't recognize her uniform or school badge, but she was clearly one of them.
As was I.
However, when the train came to a sudden halt, she was up on her feet. The middle-aged salaryman twitched, and he suddenly scrambled off his seat and broke into a run.
"…huh?"
For a moment, I was confused, until I saw the girl chase after him. She was drawing her katana from the black scabbard and pursuing the panicked salaryman.
"What the hell?"
I was on my feet too, and moving toward them. I wasn't sure what I intended to do. Stop the high school girl in sailor uniform from killing the guy, perhaps. Obviously I couldn't sit by and watch as someone got murdered in cold blood right in front of my eyes.
I was supposed to be a hero, after all.
"Wait…!" I called out, even though I was aware that the girl wouldn't respond. The middle-aged man sent me a terrified gaze, his eyes gleaming in the darkness in between moments of alternate light and darkness.
"Save me!" he cried, desperately fumbling for the next train carriage. He ran into the doors and scrabbled at the latch, trying to yank it open. The girl was upon him right now, her sword flashing down on him. His eyes darted toward me. "Help! She's crazy!"
I was about to do so when I noticed something wrong. When the darkness came again, my lenses kicked in and scanned the guy, and I saw something seriously wrong. There was a monstrous shadow cast by the seemingly human figure, bearing partial wings, claws and fangs.
"You are…"
Even though I stopped in my tracks, the girl showed no such hesitation and slashed the guy. Blood fountained out and the salaryman shrieked one final time before crumpling to the floor.
The girl than flicked the blood off her katana and sheathed it. She narrowed her eyes at me, turned away and retrieved her smartphone.
"Mission accomplished." She then paused. "There is a witness. I'll leave him to you guys to deal with." Then she shrugged. "I couldn't help it. Also, he seems to know that the target wasn't human. But if you want me to silence him, I'll cut him down."
Adjusting my glasses, I placed a hand on the hilt of one of my swords and watched her cautiously. She scowled.
"He'll be a troublesome opponent. I'm not sure I'll be able to cut him down." There was a voice at the other end of her smartphone and she sighed in exaggerated exasperation. "I know, I know. I won't do anything, okay? You guys deal with him."
Whoom.
The train moved again. The lights flickered back on and stayed on this time, illuminating the carriage.
The girl glared at me as she hung up and placed her smartphone back in her pocket.
"Don't ask me any questions," she said coldly. "I won't be answering them."
"I didn't say anything, though?!"
The girl ignored me and went back to sit down. I watched her, and then decided to drop down on the train seat as well. There was no point standing around like an idiot. Glancing to the train door, I stared at the man's corpse. Blood was pooling underneath, turning into a red lake. My glasses whirred and scanned the body, and I caught sight of data informing that he was not human.
The train finally came to a stop, but this time it was at a station. The train driver spoke the name of the station overhead, but his voice was drowned out as passengers stomped out of the other carriages. In the almost empty carriage, the girl stood up and disembarked from the train.
Not wanting to be left inside the carriage, alone with the seemingly human corpse, I also rose to my feet. Not to mention, I overheard the train driver announcing that this was the last stop, and the train would terminate here. So there was little point in sticking around.
A couple of men in suit hurried over, both of them large and burly. One was a blind Caucasian with a large nose, while the other was a black with curly hair. They regarded me curiously, but focused their attention on the girl.
"Saya!" the Caucasian called to the girl as he approached her. "Are you all right?"
"Of course. I told you that I accomplished the mission, didn't I?" she then raised her katana. "And get me a new blade. This one is getting worn out. I had trouble slicing through the target."
"I see." The blond man nodded. "I'll arrange for a new sword to be sent to you. It'll take a week or so."
"I don't have a week, David." The girl called Saya shoved him a little as she stepped around him. "Make it three days."
"Saya…" David sounded as if he was trying to placate her, even though he looked about twice her age. "You know swords don't just grow on trees. We need to get it forged and manufactured…"
While the two of them argued, the black man moved into the carriage to take a good look at the "target." He blanched and almost jumped back out.
"What the hell?! That's a human in there! What's going on?!"
"Shut up, Jason!" David snapped at him.
"But…" Jason protested, gesticulating frantically back toward the carriage. "No matter how you look at him, he's just a man! If you don't believe me, take a look!"
Saya merely gave him a glare before stalking off. Jason stepped toward her in rage, waving at her.
"Wait! Hey, you! Get back here! We're not done yet!"
But David struck him before he could say anything else. Hauling Jason up by his collar, he slammed the poor dude against the train.
"Shut up, you idiot! You want to die or something?!"
"What do you mean?!" Jason was coughing, but he glared at his fellow suited dude defiantly.
"She's the only one who can identify them. Of course they look human – they are shapeshifters! Once they take human form, there's almost no way for us to tell them apart! That's why we have her hunt them!"
"If I may…" I raised a hand and pointed toward the corpse in the train. "The guy's not human. I'm picking up strange biological signals that do not belong to a human."
"Right. The other way is through devices and stuff." David let go of Jason and turned to me, studying my glasses. He must have caught sight of the holographic signals on my glasses, which were still churning out readings and data. "That's quite the hi-tech glasses you have."
"What do we do about him?" Jason was smoothing out his suit and trying to recover. He reached for his gun and pointed it at me. "Do we silence him?"
"Idiot!"
David was too late. Jason screamed as his arm flew up into the air, blood spurting from his stump. Dropping to his knees, he stared at me, terrified. My black blade was pressed against his throat, drawing a thin line of blood.
"W…wait! I'm sorry! Please…we can talk this through! There doesn't need to be any killing!"
"That's not what your friend said."
"It's…it's just a misunderstanding!" David glared at the howling Jason. "Hurry up and apologize, you dolt! Do you want to lose your head?"
"Sorry…" the guy in the suit whimpered, clutching his stump and staring at me, tears streaming down his eyes. "I…I didn't mean to…"
I glared at him, then withdrew my sword. I never intended to kill Jason, but he asked for it by pulling a gun on me. While I was generally a nice guy, I wasn't stupid enough to let people point a gun at me and shoot. I had enough of idiots targeting me because they were enemies with Dad. Not that Jason needed to know that, of course, but at least he was aware that his life wouldn't be taken anytime soon. The guy dropped back onto his rump, immensely relieved.
"However…" David began, and then raised both of his hands when I turned to him. "Don't misunderstand! I'm just requesting that you keep this a secret! If the public knows that there are shapeshifting monsters roaming amongst them, there will be a mass panic!"
"Sure." I lowered my sword and sheathed it. "It's not as if anyone will believe me anyway."
"What's going on?" To my surprise, a newcomer showed up. It wasn't Saya, who had disappeared long ago, but rather Kufa Van Peer. He stopped and stared at me, surprised. "Classmate Richard? What are you doing here?"
"Oh? You know each other?" David was looking relieved as he wiped cold perspiration from his face. "This young man is a witness. He saw Saya cutting down a Chiropteran in the train…"
"A what?" I interrupted. David hesitated, but Kufa stepped forward.
"It's all right. I know him. He's a fellow combat mage who is currently enrolled in my school for an exchange program."
David nodded, and turned back to me. "That's what we call the shapeshifting monsters. They have inherited the genes of a bat, and feed on human blood. That's why we hunt them down, to ensure nobody falls victim to their predations."
"Heh…so vampires?" I asked. David winced.
"Not exactly."
"Don't even begin to put them in the same classification as vampires," Kufa told me seriously. "Vampires are still humans. They are mages who excel in blood magic, and delve into forbidden lore to increase their powers. These things aren't human. They're…an offshoot, a mutation. Monsters that feed on human blood and then shapeshift into the species of their victims. It's to camouflage themselves."
I grimaced. "That's scary."
"Anyway, I'll take him with me." Kufa was addressing David and Jason. "You guys take care of the aftermath. I'll brief him on what's happening."
"Recruit him if possible." David gestured toward my glasses. "He has some hi-tech gear that can tell apart the Chiropterans from humans."
"Oh, right. That would be a great help." Kufa grinned. "But that's not the only thing I need his help for."
"What do you mean?" I frowned. Kufa put an arm around my shoulders and began leading me away from the train.
"You're heading back to school, right? Perfect. There are a few things I'll need your help with, if you don't mind…"
