The other stranger was very young, and looked the same age as Hutton. He was also wearing a long black robe. When he stood by Hutton, the magical wave that he emitted was not behind that of the proclaimed magic genius of the Breezy Plains.
However, he did not know why, but that mage did not have a friendly vibe…
Lin Li realized that the moment Tutankhamun spoke. The gaze that young man placed on him was one that was riddled with enmity. It was as though they were magical beasts that went out hunting and had their eyes set on the same prey.
"What the f*ck…" Lin Li muttered as he pursed his lips. He thought that the gaze should belong to Hutton, whose family he had greatly offended. What did that fella mean by that sneer?
"P-President Felic, what a coincidence…" That was Hutton, who looked very surprised when he spoke.
After the annihilation of Vanskore's bandits, the relationship between both men became very awkward. They were neither friends nor enemies; although they were not friendly with each other, there had not been any direct confrontation between them. They would have forgotten about each other after a few months if not for the sudden meeting in the Blackstone Mountains. 
Unfortunately, fate brought them together in less than a bit. To be honest, if he could, Hutton really did not want to meet that young president anymore.
That man was too dangerous…
Although he had not entirely believed what Adelo told him, it did not mean that he paid no attention to Adelo's words. He was very clear about Adelo's personality. That senior apprentice of his was not somebody who would exaggerate so much. Even if things that happened at the Scar of Death were not entirely the same as what Adelo told him, his words would be very close to the truth. 
Even if Adelo spoke a lot of lies, the lives of the over 300 elite bandits would not be a lie.

Lin Li's reaction gave Hutton a sense of relief. It seemed that the young guild president had already forgotten the unhappiness that happened between them previously. After hearing his greeting, that man answered him with a very friendly smile.
"Oh, yes, President Felic. I nearly forgot to ask you. What brings you here?"
"Hehe…" Lin Li smiled with the same friendly expression. However, he glanced at that stranger as he spoke, "I had quite some bad luck. I just encountered a sneak attack when I passed by the nest of the Crimson Python. I had no other choice but hide in that nest. Who knew it'd bring me here…"
The expression of the young man changed the moment Lin Li opened his mouth.
"Oh, yes. This is…?" asked Lin Li deliberately after ranting as he glanced at that stranger blankly. 
"Oh, right. If not for President Felic's reminder, I would have forgotten to introduce you to each other…" By this time, Hutton's smile became extremely awkward. "This is Stephen from the Dark Blade. He is a level-17 Archmage, the best magic talent in the Breezy Plains." Hutton turned to Stephen, and continued, "This is President Felic, the owner of the Tower of Dusk, a mage that even Senior Adelo respects."
"It is my pleasure to meet you…" Lin Li greeted Stephen. In fact, that introduction was redundant. Lin Li had guessed it right. Not to mention that there were few Archmages in the Breezy Plains who were younger than 30 years old, there were even fewer who were at level-17. Furthermore, his change in expression upon the mention of a sneak attack gave him away. He knew that this man should be the sworn enemy of the Malfa Family, the heir of the Dark Blade.
"What is the Tower of Dusk? I've never heard of it…" Stephen remarked as he looked at Lin Li slightly. "As for trash like Adelo, he is still a level-17 even though he followed Cheyenne for 10 years. If he were to show respect to someone, I guess there's nothing to be proud of anyway…"
Stephen's words brought out sparkles in Hutton's eyes.
That was right. Hutton planned to sow discord between both men. Otherwise, he would not have thought of introducing Stephen to Lin Li after the mention of the sneak attack. That was as good as telling Lin Li plainly that the mastermind behind the sneak attack was the man before him, and that he could take the chance to take revenge immediately.
To Hutton, the personality of the young guild president would bring him to flip the table as soon as he knew the truth. Having killed 300 people in the split of a second, how could he show any respect to somebody from the Dark Blade?
However, Hutton's optimism did not allow him to expect Stephen to be so accommodating to his plans.
He just said that he had not heard of the Tower of Dusk…
That was a plain insult that could enrage anybody, not only that young President Felic.
Now it was great. One was an Archmage that was almost on par with himself, and another was a powerful mage that Adelo admired… If both of them were to start a battle, he was certain that one of them would be dead. By then, it meant that he managed to get rid of one opponent without much effort.
Even if Tutankhamun interfered in the confrontation, there was still nothing for Hutton to lose, either. The two people would not combine forces against him once their relationship had been damaged. To him, that was the most ideal situation.
Unfortunately, Hutton's hopes were dashed very quickly. Stephen's words did not affect the bright and passionate smile on President Felic. It was as though the words were a compliment instead of insult.
"Hehe, I like how Mage Stephen is so straightforward…"
How would Lin Li not understand Hutton's intention of sowing discord between him and Stephen? Hutton had to be waiting for both men to fight and get rid of either opponent…
Of course, Lin Li had no objections to getting rid of Stephen. He was the guy that had sent people to launch a sneak attack on Gavin and his team. That was a score that he would be settling in the future. Now, he did not have the time to do so. How could he think about revenge when he was standing before the son of the Dragon of Destruction?
"Howdy, Mr. Tutankhamun. I can't believe that we met so quickly again…"
"Hehe, I know you have a lot of burning queries…" Tutankhamun replied. It was as though he knew what Lin Li was thinking about. The mysterious middle-age man was able to predict what was on Lin Li's mind as soon as he opened his mouth.
"Yes, Mr. Tutankhamun. Could you tell me the reason behind all these happenings?"
"It is because of a promise." Tutankhamun's gaze swept past the three men before stopping on Lin Li. "It is a promise that was made more than 1300 years ago. Alright, now that everybody is here, let's find a nice place to talk about it…"
As Tutankhamun finished his sentence, the scenery around them took a change. The previously deserted land transformed into luscious greenery. The three men saw a wooden cottage hidden behind the thickets, and followed Tutankhamun in its direction. Their eyes were filled with amazement.
Being rare talents in the field of magic, the three men would naturally not take the transformation of their surroundings as an illusion. In fact, the situation was not something that could be explained by an illusion. There was not a single tree or stone that was imaginary here. Even the fragrance carried by the flowers, grass, and soil was as in the real world. That was not what any illusion in the world could achieve. That could only be reality. A reality that changed according to Tutankhamun's intentions…
"Since you are all here, I bet you have heard about the promise…" Those words were directed to Hutton and Stephen.
Hutton nodded his head respectfully. 
"That's right, Mr. Tutankhamun. According to the records, the Malfa Family would be able to reclaim some things from you after 1300 years."
"Yeah…" Tutankhamun smiled and shook his head. "There is a problem with your family's ancient books…"
"Oh?"
"The real owner of those things is not the Malfa Family you were referring to. They were Geresco's…"
"G-Geresco!?" The three young mages let out a gasp as soon as Tutankhamun finished talking.
Geresco's name carried some sort of charisma that only the Immortal King had the privilege to challenge in the entire history of Anril.

The morning had dawned clear and cold, with a crispness that hinted at the end of summer.  The damp meadow was enjoying the last warming rays of the sun and the sleeping Adam was enjoying a cold breeze. The cool breeze, heralding the chilly days to come, brought Adam the feeling of a freedom, he was rarely allowed to feel.
With the sun persisting in rising, Adam stood up. Fist stretching his bruised arms, then his stiff back,  he decided to lay down a second time.

A  stripped tomcat sleeping on a sun-warmed old wooden bench, shuddered, raised his round head, pulled back his ears, hissed, and bolted off into the narrow alley as it tried to escape the full blasting church bell. Work was interrupted, conversations ended, and even babies, waiting for a fresh diaper had to be a little more patient. It was time for the Sunday church after all. The townspeople immediately lunged into the streets and rushed to 'Gods house'. As they say, a bible verse every day will make your problems go away. 11-year-old Giuseppe, son of the local bookkeeper, heard of the old saying, but he knew another thing for sure. "Listen, a dollar every day will keep your problems more efficient away."

"Don't look at me. I don't know what he's saying"                                                                                "Ehm, you know money solves everything and... "                                                                              "Garbage quote."                                                                                                                              "Aaah shut up. To hell with the phrase. Just get the message." 
Passing the inner town walls and the guards, Giuseppe knew exactly what rare opportunity lay ahead of him, after all, his goal was to rob the Pope. Outside of the tour times, it was strictly forbidden to visit one of Rome's most famous landmarks- The Trevi fountain. The first time he missed his chance, but this time he's prepared. At the thought of what wealth laid before him, his eyes shimmered as much as the sun on the clear water. The statue of Neptune, the mythical king of the sea, looked strong and majestic as the central figure down upon Guiseppe, but he didn't care. What he wanted was laying at the bottom of the fountain. A widely known legend, mostly practiced by travelers, claims that you have to throw 3 coins into the fountain of your right hand over your left shoulder.  The first coin guarantees you a safe return to Rome, the second will ensure you a delighted return, and the third will grant you a  splendid return. After all these years, the fountain amassed a little treasure. That is why it was strictly forbidden to fish money. 
"Give me my swimming goggles, Leo. This time we will get rich", Guiseppe said full of confidence. But Leo didn't respond. Looking for his friend, he started to scream as he fixed his tearful eyes, on a passing rider. The stranger rode slowly, throwing one...two...three...four coins into the fountain. His horse stretched his neck and constantly pulled the cord tied to a laden wooden carriage. Additional to the usual goods like water or bread, the long-tailed horse was lugging a large shape, wrapped in a saddlecloth, heavy enough to nearly break the carriage's thick wheels. The grey-white stone-paved roads were covered with black streaks of dried blood. Guiseppe and his friends noticed that the stranger carried two swords, not something unusual in itself, nearly every man in Rome carried a weapon, but no one carried a sword strapped on his back as if it were a quiver or a bow.
As the stranger set foot on the streets, two guards armed with firearms, already expected him, opening the doors to the Apostolic Palace, also known as the residence of current Pope Stephen VI. One of the two saw the children, one crying, one stunned, and chased them off. The stranger gave the running children a brief look, wondering how they got past the guards he himself needed to go through.
 "Would you please follow me, Sir. A servant will take care of your horse." "Don't touch him." "As you wish, Sir."  The stranger had no unusual things. Under a black hooded coat, he wore nothing more than blue jeans, black boots, and a dirty white tank top, letting his chest hair peep out. The only things that stand out, beside him riding a horse, was his silver chain in the shape of a triquetra and his musty smell. "May I take your coat, Sir?" "No." "As you wish; *Sniff* *Sniff* Please follow me cl...closely." Flapping banners over his head, firearms, and countless pair of eyes followed the stranger up to the pope's doorstep. The guard rolled his shoulders forward, knelt, and bowed his head. The stranger, however, remained firm and upright. It was now that no one paid any attention to the stranger. All eyes focused on the elevated sitting old man and his with gold adorned garment, seemingly shining with cleanliness.
 "Your Grace." "Theo." "You wanted to speak to me." "I'd like to hear, why you passed the outer town walls, to go into no man's land." "I hunted the Ferocious Beast." "The what?" "The  enormous wolf-like animal, which devoured your 'children' and terrorized a village." "Village? Which one?" "Portofino." "Hm, never heard of... Anyways I would like to hear the reports on the meetings of my small council sooner." "You're always welcomed to attempt the meetings of your small council, my grace." Theo started to walk to the Pope, and with every step, he came closer, the king slipped deeper into his throne. "Is this the reason, you requested my appearance, my king?" Holding his hand in front of his mouth, the king cleared his throat. "No, this is not the reason. God delivered me a task for you. Soon a new messiah will appear and God himself chose you as his personal guard." "I accept." "You do? I mean, of course, you do. My servant will tell you the details of his arriving." "With that settled, I will now take my leave as I have to sell the wolf to the local blacksmith...." Right before leaving the throne hall, Theo gave the Pope some last words.  "..., your grace." And left.

A soft voice fell into Adams's ear. "Hey"  "Who is that?" A young woman, with her long brown hair blown by the winds like the apple tree branches, she was standing by, leaned over to Adam. "Quare agis nudus?"  Adam rose his shoulders as he didn't understand. "Non parli latino?" And again Adam rose his shoulders. "I don't understand you." "Ah, ehmmmm, why you naked?" "Wha-?" Now Adam understood which freedom he felt. "Oh fuck." With a roll that would leave James Bond himself jealous, Adam hid behind the apple tree. 
The girl started giggling. "Hihihi You...You James Bond!" "James Bond?" "Sì, eeeehhhmm, the...the name Bond, James Bond and..and the martini shaken, not stirred." "Sssuree, ehm, do you have clothes?" "Clots?" "Cloothhess", Adam responded as he pointed to her clothes. "Oooh, cloothhess! Sì! Wait!" Adam watched the young woman running to her white Fiat 500, standing on the street side and bringing him pants and a black hoodie with a snake motif. The obviously too large jeans kept slipping off his hips and in the large sweater, he almost looked like a child. It put a smile on his face.  "Thanks." He hadn't felt anything like that for a long time  "You want to come to my home?"  Adam just nodded.  Before taking a seat, he put his hand on the car and wiped away the little dirt he found. "You like oldtimer?" Oldtimer? As a child, Adam would sit by the window till midnight observing every car driving by if it wasn't his mother's little white Fiat finally coming from work. If Adam couldn't sleep, his mother would take him on a late-night drive. Watching the big shiny moon and all those little stars passing by, he had no choice but to fall asleep. Whenever he missed the bus his 'private bus', how his mother called it, would make sure he wouldn't miss a single class. For him, all this was 6 years ago, but he couldn't ignore that the world already passed another 100 years. A single lonely tear connected with his, now, artificial smile. " Yes...Yes, I... I kind of like Oldtimers." The young woman wanted to consult Adam but she simply couldn't. How could she? No matter how hard you want without the words, your thoughts remain silent.

Few people had most of the cake and the others had to deal with the crumbs. The industrial revolution changed that and a person's gain became equivalent to your personal gain. Even if there were still serious differences in the size of the piece of cake, the crumbs got bigger and bigger, as the large pieces of cake kept growing. But now there was another incident that 'rewrote' the rules. The supposed apocalypse. Mythical creatures from various cultures, sagas, and legends flooded the world. Those creatures of yesteryear can only be fought with weapons of yesteryear. Which led to the fact that mankind increasingly falls back on structures, ideologies, and realms of bygone times. The desperate humans turned to different religions. Those again have a power that lets them control the world. But only a handful of people know that the world state is based on a battle between the gods they worship. One of these few people is our protagonist Thomas who wants to kill a specific God.



 
 

I felt my bed go down beside me but I did not bother to turn and look. I already knew who it was. Uncle George placed his hand on my back and rubbed it softly. 

"Daniel, what will you like to eat? It's almost evening and we both haven't eaten anything. Would you like some Jollof rice?" he asked, while he stroked my back. 

I shook my head in my pillow. "I don't want to eat anything. I am not hungry," I mumbled. 

"Come on, Daniel. You have to eat something. We already skipped breakfast and lunch. You need to eat or else you will become sick. Then, I will have to take care of you. Please, let me make something for you." he pleaded. 

I turned my head on the pillow and faced him. I sighed deeply and nodded slightly at him making him smile at me. 

"I will be right back," he said and left the room. 

I watched him leave then turned my head again to face the wall. I fell asleep somewhere along the line. Because, I heard a gentle tap on my leg. I opened my eyes and saw my uncle, bending over me. I frowned a bit. 

"Hey, food is ready. Let's go downstairs." 

I sat up, stretched my body, then, got down from the bed. I straightened my shirt and followed my uncle down stairs. He had already brought the food to the dinning hall. We sat down, me seated at his right side, while he sat on the next chair. That place was my father's favorite position. He dished out the food and we ate silently. 

"I called your uncles and they both said they would be here tomorrow," uncle announced after the long silence. 

"Mmh," was all the reply he got from me. 

Honestly, I was not prepared to see them. I don't think I will ever be prepared to see them. Anytime I see them, I feel very uncomfortable. 

"I know you might be feeling like all hope is lost because your parents are not here anymore. But, I want you to understand that, no matter what happens, I will be here to protect you. I won't let anyone hurt you, okay?" he held my hand. 

"Okay." True, I was feeling all alone and very depressed, so My uncles words became very encouraging to me. I needed someone who could watch over me and protect me. And that person is Uncle George. 

"Alright. Let's finish our food." 

When we were done eating, Uncle George gathered the plates and took them to the kitchen to wash them. All I did was to go to the living room and watch TV. I needed to distract myself from all the sadness I was feeling. Hopefully, the TV could do that job. When I turned it on, the first thing that came was a movie. It kind of looked funny so I left it there. 

Uncle George was done in no time and joined me in the living room. "What are you watching?" 

"Some sort of comedy. It seems interesting." 

Uncle George sat beside me. He started laughing when some of the actors began to say something funny to each other. It was totally hilarious yet I could not even laugh. Is this how it felt to be totally depressed? I wonder. 

I decided to stay up in my room the next day as my uncles would be coming over to discuss the funeral rites for my parents. I did not want to meet them when they come, so I pleaded with my uncle to help me stay away from them as much as I can. Uncle George understood, and agreed to help me. 

It was about 10 in the morning when I heard them talking loudly downstairs. They had arrived and greeting each other. Uncle George was welcoming them. I rolled my eyes at their loudness and laid back in bed, with my school text book in front of me. I concentrated on what I was reading and totally zoned out their voices from my head. I was feeling thirsty, and mentally slapped myself for forgetting to get a bottle of water. 

I sneaked downstairs towards the kitchen, hoping they would not hear me. Then I heard something that had me frozen on the spot. 

"That boy is adopted. He cannot be the heir to all our brother's properties." I heard Uncle Stephen say. 

Adopted? What are they talking about? 

"Yes, I agree with Stephen. We can't allow a stranger to take over what our brother owned. No! As far as I know, my brother and his wife died childless. As simple as that," Uncle Nathan said. 

Stranger? Who is the stranger? And what do they mean by my father died childless? What am I then? Or, are they saying I am the stranger? 

I began to shake and sweat profusely. I was still frozen and I felt like my body was just refusing to move. Then I heard Uncle George speak next. 

"How can both of you say a thing like that? Our brother did not die childless. He has a son. And his name is Daniel. Why do the two of you hate him like that?" 

"That boy is not our brother's son, let me remind you if you have forgotten. He was adopted as a baby. We all know this, so why are we pretending?" Uncle Stephen spat out. 

No, this can't be true. I am adopted. No, it's not true. 

Before I realised what I was doing, I was walking towards them. 

"I am not adopted. You are lying. You are just saying this because you hate me," I began to shout when I got close to them. 

Uncle George was shocked at my outburst. Uncle Nathan looked disgusted while Uncle Stephen had this smirk on his face. 

Uncle George rushed to my side when I began to cry out. They couldn't be telling the truth, could they? Uncle George turned me towards him. 

"Daniel, I thought we had agreed you were going to stay in your room. Why did you come downstairs?" he looked worried, or maybe, guilty. 

I ignores his question and asked him mine instead. "Am I really adopted, uncle? Please tell me the truth." 

Uncle George was shocked by my question and was absolutely silent.

Daniel looses his parents in a road accident. His uncle decides to take him in, but due to some circumstances he is forced to leave his house and moves in with a family. He somehow ends up with the Philips where his life is turned upside down. It is later revealed that he is connected to this family in a way he never imagined. A week ago, I received a letter from the council offering a job as an assistant manager at the Royal Palace of Veneton. 

At first, Uncle Aaron and Aunt Rachel hesitated to allow me to work but then they allowed me when I said that I just wanted to explore the city. The truth was, I wanted to help them with their financial crisis but if I said so, they wouldn't accept my help. According to the conditions written in the job document, I had to stay in the mansion and was only allowed to visit my relatives during vacations.

The day to leave Iris and head for Veneton arrived so fast. I had packed some of my clothes and money which I had saved from my pocket money. I am thankful I collected it instead of spending them. Usually, I am not the 'collecting type' of a person. I just spend all of my money buying stupid things which I just use once or spend it on eatables. 

I carried my luggage and headed down the stairs. I walked over to Aunt Rachel who was standing at the porch.

"So you're leaving us alone? Your uncle has become old. Who will talk to me when you're gone?" Aunt Rachel said in a choked voice, tears beginning to form in her lucious green eyes. 

Aunt Rachel was an emotional person. She loved me like her own daughter. I feel privileged to have her in my life. If I didn't say anything she would surely start crying and I didn't want that.

"I am young enough!" came the haughty voice of Uncle Aron breaking our emotional conversation as he walked towards where I and Aunt Rachel stood at the porch, "But we will surely miss you, Elina."

I ran into his open arms mumrmuring 'I will miss you too'. Aunt Rachel us joined soon after, resulting in a group hug. 

I am gonna miss them so much. I just wish I could stay here but no, I have to go. For Uncle and Aunt's sake. I can't be a burden on them. I had to contribute my part and be a helpful neice. 

I heard the sound of the coachman call out for me to sit in the carriage so that we can leave for destination. It's already time to go.

Uncle and Aunt wished me Luck and said me to take care of myself. I pulled them both into a warm embrace yet again and then hesitantly headed towards the carriage when Aunt Rachel literally forced me to go and 'have fun'. 

As I sat in the carriage, I thought about all the moments spent with my Uncle and Aunt. They were indeed the loveliest people I've ever had in my life.

It was a long journey from Iris to Veneton. It took a whole day to reach Veneton.

Iris and Veneton were the two main empires. Veneton was ruled by a Vampire Lord whereas Iris was ruled by the Werewolf Queen. Both the cities had a cold war with each other because of the conflict between the Vampires and the Werewolves. I had lived in Iris for almost 19 years but I have never known anything about our queen, there were no pictures of the Queen in newspapers. The Werewolf queen didn't like to be out in the public much. Many of the people in Iris, didn't even know how their own queen looked like.

When I arrived at the Royal Palace, it was already evening. When we entered the huge black castle gates, I couldn't believe my own eyes at the beauty of the castle-like manor. 

The manor was built on a large ground, beautiful garden-that had flowers of various colours, types and sizes-surrounding the stone castle. A huge fountain rested at the front with different lights placed around it that made the fountain seem like a splash of various colours. There were two white-stoned tiles path on either side of the fountain that lead to the entrance of the palace.

I descended the carriage still in awe of my surtounding and followed the coachman who lead me the way inside the castle before going back to his carriage which was parked outside and taking off from the place with the horses making loud neighing voices indicating his retreat. 

I could see big portraits of sceneries of lakes, rivers and mountains painted enchantingly as they hung proudly on the neatly polished wooden walls of the palace's hallway. There were also portraits of unfamiliar people or rather vampires---since they have famgs--- who looked liked they were from the victorian-era judging by their appearance, hanged on the walls.

The whole interior of the palace was somewhat gothic which made it look more like those palaces in the movies of the historian Kings and Queens era. 

The mansion had a large hallway which stretched on and on. I couldn't find out where I had to go for the interview. I was lost.

I saw a man passing by carelessly. His stature looked umbothered as he strolled around, ocassionally poking the artifacts hung on the walls with a mischievous look on his face. 

The man looked about my age which is nineteen and was wearing a black jeans and a red shirt. I walked over to him in hopes of finding where exactly I had to go in this monstrosity of a huge castle, 

"Could you please tell me the way to the interview room?" I asked him politely once I was in front of him.

Up close, he was a handsome man with black hair that fell messily on his forehead and dark brown eyes which looked more like black, staring at me with utter curiosity. There was something about his appearance that made him look almost kiddish. Almost. Maybe that mischievous and puppy look on his face?

He inquired whether I was the girl assigned by the council and when I said I was, he behaved like he had just got the shock of his life. He suddenly went from being silent and polite to act like a crazed banshee.

"Oh my lord! I totally forgot. Olivia's gonna kill me!" The man squeezed his eyes shut and started hitting his head with his right hand's balled fist before pacing back and forth mumbling on someone possibly going to take his soul away.

This guy was insane or funny, I didn't really know. He was being so hysterical as if someone was going to murder him.

While I was staring at the man act like a mother hen about to hatch eggs, I heard heels clicking against the padded wooden floor as I saw footsteps approaching us.

A gorgeous woman with straight honey brown—almost blonde—hair that went down her slender waist to her butt and beautiful big light brown eyes came into view as she walked over to stand beside the weird but funny man from earlier, facing me. Her posture looked stiff and alert as if she were a warrior or something.

"Milady, you have to take a right and then you enter the second door to your left which leads to the Lord's study. You'll be giving your interview in there," the woman informed me with a sweet smile on her face, giving the direction humbly as she pointed her slender finger to the way I was supposed to go. 

Then her attention turned to the man from earlier. Her head tilting to the side as she narrowed her eyes at him,

"Stefan, how could you forget this? I remember telling you almost a hundred times to look out for the lady sent by the council who'll possibly be here today?" She folded her arms across her chest giving the man a stern look who seemed like he would rather have a monster eat him up than face the wrath of the woman.

"You know Olivia, I do a lot of work. So I just tend forget a bit of things. Like attending to the lady here," Stephen—yeah that was his name, said facing the woman named Olivia. 

"You and work? Those two words can't be in the same line when we're talking about you. Can you tell me what work you did this whole week?" Olivia asked the Stephen guy with an icy glare and a raise of her brows.

"Well, leave it." He shrugged nonchalantly before looking my way, "Don't you think we should introduce ourselves to this beautiful lady?" He scratched his head probably wanting to shift the topic off him as he pointed his thumb at me. 

It was funny looking at the grown-up man who seemed to be terrified of the beautiful lady. All this while I was staring at the both of them with amusement. I was curious to know who they were and now they were going to introduce themselves, so I heard them attentively. 

The black-haired, brown-eyed, funny man introduced himself first. His name was Stephen Davies. He was the small brother of the Lord of Veneton. Basically, he was the prince of the kingdom. 

Then the brown-eyed woman introduced herself, "I am Olivia Hughes and—" her words were interrupted by Stefan who jumped into the picture with eagerness, "—And she is the Head of the Guards of our Kingdom. You need to be careful of her. She's very violent," he exaggerated, proving his point by making wide eyes.

"Shut up, Stefan. You are scaring the girl with your owl's eyes," Olivia rolled her eyes at him.

"Owl's eyes? Do they have really beautiful eyes?" he asked curiously staring at her with a mischievous look on his face. 

The hilarious element was that he looked genuinely curious.

"Ofcourse.....not! Have you never seen an owl?" Olivia said looking heavenwards as she lifted her arms in the air giving Stephen an incredolous look.

She was surely annoyed by Stephen. They both looked kind of adorable bickering like old couples.

Hearing Olivia's name I remembered my sister 'Olivia' who was lost years ago and then declared dead by the council as they could not find her. Both of them had the same name but yet they were so different, one was dead and the other was the head of the guards.

'The Head of the Guards', these words rang in my mind. A girl and the head? That's impressive! Maybe she really is very brave and strong perhaps, that she leads the whole army of Veneton filled with thousands of soldier men and woman alike.

"Milady, where are you lost?" I saw Stefan waving his hand in the air in front of my face.

"Oh sorry, I was just thinking about something." I smiled queaily.

I then began with my introduction. I told them my full name and that I was from Iris. When Stephen started talking too much, Olivia said him to shut up and let me do my work. She asked whether she should lead me to the office or I could go myself. I said I could go myself and headed towards the office. 

All this while, I was trying to control my laughter but now I was far from them so a small laugh escaped my lips. They both are so funny and friendly. Stefan is a prince but he did not have any ego issues. Strange. Anyways, I will enjoy good company of them in the castle during my stay here, that's if I get the job.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice the man coming from the other end of the hallway and I accidentally bumped into him, crashing against his hard chest. The person was holding a set of papers which fell down on the ground due to the impact of the crash. 

I scooted down to pick up the scattered papers which had fallen down on the wooden floor without looking up at the man I had bumped into. 

"I'm really sorry. I didn't see you," I appologized sincerely as I collected all the papers and got up to give them back to him.

When I finally took a look at the person's face though, I rubbed my eyes to check whether I wasn't hallucinating. It was the same man who I had 'attacked' with my wooden stake in the forest a week ago. The man was wearing a black and white armani suit. He was well-dressed head to toe. I stared at the man's strange brown-red eyes who returned back the stare. 

Breaking the eye contact, "You!" I said in a loud and surprised voice before pointing my index finger at him with a suspicious gaze, "Wait, are you following me?" 

"No! I am not following you," he retorted hastily, shaking his head left-to-right vigorously.

"Then what the hell are you doing here?" I ask in a confronting tone, taking a step closer to him.

I am not the 'threatening' kind of person but he's really got into my nerves. He is going to put both of us in trouble. I think he intruded in the mansion like some sought of Robert thief. And when the Lord or anyone from the castle comes to know about it, they would execute him and me too, if the situation turns worse since I know him—even if it wasnt true, any onlooker would be convinced to believe that.

"Me....I—" before he could speak I started pushing him towards the main door, my hand resting flat on his upper back as I forced him to move forward, "What are you doing?" he asked confused although he walked ahead.

"You intruded inside the 'Royal Palace', without any permission. Like seriously? Did you loose your mind somewhere?" I stated with an annoyed expression.

"But why do I need any permission to get into my own palace?" He asked turning around to look at me while halting on his steps.

"Your palace? C'mon, it's not time to joke around. It's the king's mansion."

"And I am the king." The madman stood straighter, appearing to be proud of the lie he just sprew.

He got to be kidding me. I guess he won't go until he gets himself beheaded. If someone hears him declaring himself as the king or worse, if the king himself hears the madman, then he will be surely beheaded for imposing himself as the ruler.

"Do you know him, Elina? " I heard a loud masculine voice asking. 

I followed the source of the sound to find Stefan and Olivia heading towards me. Stephen was pointing at the idiot standing beside me and that's when his question registers into my mind.

"Yes..." I said then shook my head, "No, actually he came to give me the papers. His work is done, he will go now." 

Wow, what a wonderful lie I have cooked only to save the not-so-deserving stranger man from getting punished. I didn't wanted to save him but I couldn't just see a person getting beheaded in front of me when I could've avoided it, right?

"Papers? Evan, you know her?" Stefan focused his attention to the madman in question. 

Who is Evan? And how does Stephen know the idiot from the woods? He spoke like he knew the man since ages. I have to clear this out.

"Wait, you know him?" I asked Stephen confused by the whole ordeal when he went over to the stranger guy and did that handshake slash hug mens do.

"Ofcourse. He's my brother. The Lord of Veneton, to be more exact," Stephen replied with a broad grin.

"W-what?!" I stood shell-shocked, hearing the revelation. 

I saw the madman—no, wait—the king bite down on his bottom lip as if to prevent himself from smiling.

Oh, no. What did I do? He was actually the king when I was assuming him as a mastermind thief. Shouldn't I hit my head somewhere? Firstly, I 'attacked' him in the forest with my lovely wooden stake. Great. Then I try to get him out of his own castle. Wonderful. Now I will have to face the consequences. He's a king afterall. He might behead me for the disrespect.

I saw Lord Evan—yeah, that was his name—chuckling slowly looking at my shocked face. 

He leans next to my ear, his breath fanning against my earlobe, "I told you." he whispers, before taking a step backward.

I'm still in shock to react and instead stay rooted to my spot. 

The annoying king does a hand gesture—which I dont bother to figure out—at Olivia before walking away from there.

The man is weird.

"Looks like Evan wants you to work as his assistant. Congratulations! You got the job. Now go and take rest. You may start your job from tomorrow morning." Olivia huged me with a huge smile on her face.

I got the job? Just like that?

I just stood there still in shock and nodded in a daze.

What the Hell just happened?
