Just as there is 'Soft Magic' in Fantasy that is portrayed through magibabble, there can be 'Soft Science' in a Sci-Fi stories through technobabble that makes 'some sense', but not entirely correct.

We are frickin' writers, not scientists. You don't have to be anatomically correct all the time, all you need to do is show that you know enough of your stuff to write a decent story. In fact, the excuse of it being an alternate world can be used if you're going to bend the limits of physics and say that fire doesn't need air to exist in this parallel dimension.

I see a lot of writers being put into a state of confusion due to not understanding the line between fantasy and Sci-Fi. They seem like they are trying to fit the Star Trek mould too often.

Science can just as well do the same things as plot devices in fantasy stories. Once you add 'realism' to a fantasy, it becomes progressively better sometimes compared to a completely fantasied story where 'logic' doesn't hold within it.

Those who write Sci-Fi usually envision a future they can imagine where magic-like Rocket Boots and other stuff exist. However, a writer must not get bogged down by small details and MUST think of an overarching story where these details matter.

It is the same with Fantasy. Even if you write about someone breaking the mould as a wizard or something, you have to attach your world to a narrative rather than doing it the other way 'round.

No one wants to hear about how awesome your boat propellers are before hearing your story's narrative. They would rather you cut down and make it relevant when it is actually relevant.

Adding some 'Hard Science' to your story is only when the scenes later on have any use for them. It bores a person to death no matter how extensive your technobabble is unless you make it interesting. Try using facts as plot elements.

For example: Even the simple fact that people cannot breath in space and instantly die when they come in contact with the 'void' of space could be used to add a layer of tension when a spaceship is damaged. Similar to how dangerous 'hard magic' is used in Epic Fantasy like Frodo's Ring in The Lord of the Rings has definitive corruption on others.

Unlike Fantasy that can use the Power of Friendship to bend logic, the readers of Sci-Fi never be expecting any 'realistic' plot elements to be bend just because the Author wants a happy ending. There are no 'Healing Potions' in real life that can be used to fix up injuries nor are people affected by prophesies or whatever.

This is the contrast between Sci-Fi and Fantasy that you can make full use of. As most authors go onto the Sci-Fi side of writing not because they strive to be scientists but since the aesthetics of a science fiction world are just so interesting.

Science Fiction is a good place to tackle heavy topics like the nature of life and the absurdity of those who see 'science' as everything. Those who disregard emotions and become cybernetic entities for the sake of casting off their mortality are portrayed as the bad guys while our totally human protagonist fighting them is a 'good guy'.

The lines between an Artificial Intelligence and regular Humans blurs as we become the 'God' of technological species that defy our definition of what is 'living'. Just as we see God as some sort of fourth-dimensional and incomprehensible being that created us as an imperfect image of 'Him', the robots given sentience would see us similarly.

Some robots might have emotions that can allow them to defy their programming, some robots won't go as far as gaining emotional functionality but will preform their roles better than even a human. It could show the reason why people get attached to the inanimate and soulless objects we put our own hearts into creating (like Big Hero 6).

But though exploring philosophical questions is good and all, never forget that a good 'plot' is needed to put forward and give clues into the writer's answer that context. Sci-Fi is, after all, a premise, not a relatable character in of itself.

Think of the science-fiction elements as just the background for your story, similar to how other genres should be that as well. You won't have to deal writing blocks if you keep to writing only what you know rather than just speculative theories.

Whether it's as dark as a Cyber Punk or optimistic of the future, just know what mould you are using for this premise. Are you writing an Adventure story with Sci-Fi as the places, destinations, and whatever tools the MC can get him hands on, or are you writing a comedy where the Sci-Fi elements don't need consistency but absurdity?

After moving past why you shouldn't add unneeded technobabble unless it's interesting to listen to or has plot significance, let me remind you all that robots and 'science' isn't entirely separated from the realm of magic. After all, there is a reason you don't see skimpy power suits being worn by astronauts these days. Just be sure to have a focus if your going to add very illogical things to the plot.

I like Gundam as much as the next guy but the whole reason the Mecha sub-genre of Anime has waned in recent years is because writers have been focusing too much on 'science' rather than the spectacle. I don't need to now what materials your Mecha is made of unless you point its weak points and make it relevant in a fight scene.

Bring up the strengths and weaknesses of something and THEN use those facts as devices that can move the plot. Conversely, if you go overboard with this advice and tell me nothing but how your giant robot looks and the 'science' behind its creation, even going as far as to tell me how many secret guns it has, then I'll be bored...

I'd love to see Cyborgs Vs Mecha but just don't forget the human element of Sci-Fi. How we create things not solely for the sake of creation but put are feelings into it just like the novels we write.

Humans are passionate that way...

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

"Work work work!" In an office building in the Timo Business District of Yoder City Center, a newly-listed game review company just began their busy day at work.
In this enterprise, there were over two hundred game reviewers. But evidently, they were still short-handed. It was normal for them to work overtime mainly because the game market was too large. In this industry, the number of employees had already reached the millions, yet it seemed far from being saturated. Every year, there would still be a large number of graduates joining this industry.
Ever since the founding of the D-Planet Federation in the twenty-third century, artificial intelligence had begun to spread extensively throughout the globe. Most jobs that required human labor were filled. Hence, the tasks humanity could do gradually became lesser, resulting in large amounts of idle time. On the contrary, the entertainment business became increasingly developed, and the improvement of the gaming industry, as one of the important parts of the entertainment business, naturally saw rapid progress.
"[Storm Tribe], [Imperial Conqueror], [Spirit Sword Sealing Demons Record], [Yin Yang Master 28]…" In the office, Little Chen who had just entered the office began to open up the list of games that needed to be tested. He glanced at this list of huge IPs as envy shone in his eyes.
These games were all products of large companies and big productions that had immense numbers of advertisements since two years ago. The company he worked for could actually get so many high-caliber games for testing. It seemed like its connections and capabilities were extraordinary. But sadly, these had nothing to do with him.
As a newbie, these huge IPs would never be given to him to review and test. Only experienced veterans would be invited to conduct accurate evaluations and risk estimations for these games.
And as for newbies like him, the games they reviewed were usually privately designed.
Because artificial intelligence had developed greatly, the gaming platforms, templates, and frameworks were extremely mature. The basic costing wasn't high, leading to many private gaming enthusiasts who didn't have a lot of money to create virtual games using their creativity. But because they sorely lacked a game creation team and art designing team, the privately designed games could only attract audiences if they had elaborate creativity.
After the barrier of entry was lowered, private games flooded the market. For quality privately designed games, it was rare to find one even in ten thousand games. The majority of the games depended on selling scantily-clad female characters or the BL (boy's love) genre. But even so, for such games, a portion of gamers who stayed at home also wouldn't buy them. In this world, those who could afford to stay home and do nothing but play games wouldn't lack money either…
Little Chen scrolled the screen, searching for some game products that were of slightly higher quality. All of a sudden, he saw a black-colored metal icon.
"The logo isn't bad!" Little Chen felt a little more energetic when he saw the game icon of 'Star Ocean'. The logo had a metallic feel to it and from its title, it seemed to be a game of the sci-fi genre. But sci-fi couldn't accurately describe it. Many major gaming productions wouldn't dare to touch the sci-fi genre, let alone private game designers.
Most of the sci-fi games were hanging the heads of sheep while selling dog meat, falsely advertising their content. Either some hot babes would accompany you to travel the universe, or it would be a hack-and-slash game like [Legend] that was covered under the guise of 'science-fiction' where one would level up while killing space monsters. Warriors and mages in normal hack-and-slash games would have their titles changed to origin force soldiers. The dragon-slaying saber would change to forcesaber—everything was just blatant plagiarism covered by new names and titles.
It was unknown how many people were still playing [Legend], and how many more generations of people would still be cheated by such a method?
With a heart like he knew everything, Little Chen clicked into the game. It was still better for him to test a hack-and-slash game like [Legend] early in the morning than to test a bunch of similar privately designed games. After all, there were many past examples that he could draw references from.

"Welcome to [Star Ocean]. Come, sign the contract and become a subject under the authority of Overlord Xiye!"
A clear voice broke the dumb-founded look on Little Chen's face. He raised his head in a startled manner and stared at the unusually formidable-looking NPC. His entire person began to shiver.
"Damn. Is... is this really a privately designed game?"
"Isn't this model too realistic?"
Little Chen stared at the surroundings with disbelief etched on his face. The scene was a temporary military base fixed up with metal. Inside were all sorts of unknown instruments, robotic arms, and many pieces of equipment that he didn't recognize. He suddenly felt too excited to speak.
Right now, the highest-evaluated sci-fi game in the market was [Titan], created by the Rainstorm Company. [Titan]'s ID was sold at $8,800 federal dollars and was known as the most expensive game in the market. When he was still studying, he had to scrimp and save for three years before he could barely have enough money to buy an account. But the sense of reality projected by this game's design and the quality of the NPC model could basically trash [Titan]!
The details, the metallic feel, the NPC model, the lines of his face, the heaving rhythm of his muscles when he breathed in and out. The sense of reality was even more real when compared to sci-fi movies!
Could he really have encountered the 'legendary' divine work of the mortal world?
Little Chen involuntarily stretched out his hand, wanting to touch the NPC. But even before his hand came in contact, an imposing might suddenly gushed over. Little Chen couldn't react in time and fell onto the ground in fright. The sense of pain traveling up from his bum caused him to feel even more bewildered as he silently mused, "A 100% tactile feel? This game is too gusty!"
"You are not allowed to touch this overlord!"
"An all-intelligent NPC?" Little Chen drew in a deep breath. Right now, A.I. technology had matured, and so an all-intelligent NPC wasn't anything rare, but the personality of this NPC was pretty interesting.
After thinking about it, he didn't continue to antagonize the other party. This game had a 100% tactile feel. If he was somehow smacked to death by this NPC, that feeling would be extremely hard to bear. As he contemplated, he turned his gaze to a huge metal door at the side.
There was a window on the door. Through the window, he could see the scene outside the temporary base. It was filled with desolation, as the scarlet red ground had no greenery. This place should be built according to the scenes on Mars.
This would save some trouble in the creation process, but the details were extremely precise. The quality of the sand and gravel on the ground looked extremely real. The flowing effect of their physical interaction with the wind was also very good. There were no problems at all!
After thinking about it, he pushed his hand forward, wanting to open the door to see the outside world. But all of a sudden, he felt a shock current bouncing his hand back. Just when he was astonished, the NPC spoke, "Mortal, your current body can't survive on this planet. After signing the contract, this overlord will commence a biological modification for you. Once the number of people here reaches 500, this overlord will organize all of you into different teams to harvest resources outside to build your home base!" 
"Oh…" A look of sudden enlightenment flashed on Little Chen's face as he mused, "So it is still unavailable to the public!"
But after pondering, it should be the case. For a production of this quality, just the amount of work needed for the details of the different backgrounds and scenes alone would be enormous. Private designers naturally wouldn't have the ability to open up too many zones. After understanding this logic, he instantly knew that this was a semi-finished product!
Such semi-finished products weren't rare on the market. Many private designers had high standards, but they weren't able to finish the game due to a lack of funding. They would always first design an opening model to attract investors to fund their game.
When he thought of this, he immediately began to score the game professionally.
Game quality: Semi-finished.
Game scene performance: Five stars. Perfect details, excellent quality. Just from the scene alone, one can tell that this game will be one that can span across eras!
Game model: Five stars. Exquisite, detailed, fully exhibiting the talent of the art design team.
Game playability: Unknown. Temporarily unable to play. It is a game that's looking for investors.
Overall game evaluation: A semi-finished product that has very high potential. It has a very strong art design team. I believe that if there's a good game-planning team, this might be a product that can replace [Titan]. Investment risk: Three and a half stars. The reason being the content right now is too little; there's almost no content. This made me doubt if there might be completely no planning done for this game in the future. I suggest investors to ask the creator carefully first, or to hire a good planning team on their own terms!
After having a conclusion in his heart, Little Chen excitedly went to write his report. It was like finding gold in a shithole. This was already considered a good accomplishment.
But suddenly, he discovered that there was no menu popping up. He then glanced at the only intelligent NPC on the scene. "Might I ask how do I exit the game?"
This time around, the NPC didn't say anything at all. It expressionlessly pointed to a transmitter at the center of the base that resembled a transfer device in sci-fi movies.
The node exit system?
Little Chen was startled. Although it could make the game seem more real, it evidently was much more troublesome. In the currently fast-tempo entertainment game models, this wouldn't be liked. It seemed like this game truly lacked a good planning team.
After contemplating it, he didn't hesitate and entered the transfer device. After activating the menu, he chose the option to exit [Star Ocean]. He also took the opportunity to quickly hand up his report before anyone else discovered this game. He must not let credit for such an accomplishment escape him!
After that, a flash of light manifested, and Little Chen who was in the transfer device vanished completely. The NPC that had a look of arrogance on his face suddenly sat down after he saw that Little Chen had left. He removed his imposing metal helmet and revealed a handsome face!
"This overlord is so fatigued!" The NPC actually began to mumble to himself. "That silly fool finally left!" After that, he spoke to the air, "A.I., can we really get away with it by me acting like this?"
"Overlord, please rest your heart at ease!" An electronic voice rang out suddenly from within the base. "Overlord, you only need to wait patiently. Not long later, there would be an unending stream of subjects flowing in!"


Player: I'm a worker whose monthly salary doesn’t even hit $5,000. My monthly rental already takes up half of my salary, I don’t have a girlfriend and is reprimanded by my superior every day. However, I feel very happy because there has been a new virtual game recently. In the game, I have a powerful bloodline. Not only do I have my own fleet, I even have a powerful overlord that granted me a colonized planet. Although I know this is fake, but inside there, I found the meaning of my life!
Actually...the overlord who gave him the planet really wanted to tell him that this game wasn’t fake. (You really have your own fleet and colonized planet…) but the overlord knew that he couldn’t say this. Because, once he said it, these subjects who thought of themselves as ‘players’, would definitely not be as terrifyingly hardworking as now!!


Hearing what Hong Dali said, everyone present was stunned in an instant.
"You have evidence?!" Feng Yun website's lawyer was startled. Then, he started laughing. "Hahahaha, you said you have evidence? What evidence do you have? The analysis for the app's source code is out. The similarity is only 58.4%. The report is right there. What other evidence could you have?"
"Oh, wait a minute while I look for it…" Hong Dali started to look all over himself. After a while, seeing that he didn't find anything, Feng Yun website's lawyer laughed heartily.
The audience watched with their jaws dropped. This Hong Dali, Tianjing City's superprodigal, what was he up to?
"Weiguo, does Dali really have evidence?" Mu Tie's forehead was full of sweat. What was Hong Dali up to?
Liu Yihui curiously said, "He… Weiguo, is he here to anger you on purpose?"
Hong Weiguo sighed helplessly. "Don't ask me, I don't know either. Let him do what he wants. But from my understanding, he's not a tactless child. This is the court. It's a serious matter to lie on court. He should know that. But I'm curious… where will he get evidence from…"
As the audience discussed among themselves, Hong Dali curiously said, "Did I forget to bring it?"
Everyone went nuts—Young Master Dali, this is a court. What did you forget?!
"Hahaha! You don't have anything, right?" Feng Yun website's lawyer laughed out loud. "Since there is no evidence, let's…"
Hong Dali disregarded him completely and shouted at a kid who looked about ten years old. "Mo Mo, did you bring the toy? I just remembered I changed my clothes and forgot to bring it!"
Hong Weiguo: "…" My god, can you not be so scary?! What could it be?! 
"I brought it!" Little Mo Mo grinned as he answered. Then, a small thing about the size of a bottle cap flew out of the crowd!
"W… What is that?!" The audience was shocked to see that. This little thing in white. It looks like… a tiny flying saucer?!
"What is that?" The small thing landed on Hong Dali's hand slowly. Feng Yun website's lawyer was shocked. He curiously asked, "A kid's remote-controlled toy?" His face turned stern. "Young Master Hong Dali, this is a court, a court! This is a serious matter, what is it that you're trying to do? I have no time for toys!"
"I know!" Hong Dali stared at him blankly. "This is the evidence I'm talking about!"
"This? This is evidence?!" Feng Yun website's lawyer felt strange and asked, "What kind of evidence is this?!"
What kind of evidence could this little thing be? Did it contain the source code comparison? That should not be the case. It was obviously a tiny remote control airplane. It looked expensive. It matched Hong Dali the little prodigal's status, so it must cost a lot—but the price had nothing to do with whether it was evidence!
The audience got interested too. "This is evidence?" "It doesn't look like it! What can it do?" "Young Master Dali is different indeed. Even his toys look extravagant!"
Zhong Dian's authors also started speculating. "What is this thing that Young Master Dali brought out? This little thing looks no bigger than a bottle cap. What is it used for?" "I don't know, but Young Master Dali always creates miracles. It must be very powerful!" "That's true!"
On the jury side, Liu Yihui looked at the little thing and wondered, "Weiguo, Dali sure likes tinkering with stuff. What is that?" 
Hong Weiguo shook his head. "I don't know either. This little rascal never tells me what he's up to. But Chuyin has been playing with him a lot recently. I don't know how that thing works either."
Everyone started discussing it, but Hong Dali was in his own world.
"I made this with Chuyin. It's a small camera. I was bored yesterday, so I played with Mo Mo." Hong Dali placed the camera on the table and took out his phone. "This thing is good. It's my latest invention. The effective control range is 20 kilometers. Aiya, I was just playing around but I actually found out something."
At that moment, everyone was looking at Hong Dali. They wanted to see what he found out.
Soon, everyone realized.
After Hong Dali put his phone on the table, he tapped an option on the screen. A tiny beam of light shone out from the bottom of the phone. When the Feng Yun website's lawyer saw this, he turned green!
The beam of light had projected a computer keyboard!
"This is Chuyin and my latest invention. We named it nouveau riche luxurious projection smartphone EX-2. It can be used to project the keyboard on the table." Hong Dali explained as he fiddled with it. "It's amazing, isn't it?"
"A… Amazing…" Feng Yun website's lawyer was stupefied. He had never seen such a high-tech product…
Next, everyone stared with eyes wide open. It was as though they had seen a ghost.
Other than projecting the keyboard, another beam of light came from the smartphone projecting a 3D screen!
Yes, a stereoscopic projection screen just like in Iron Man. The screen was huge, about one meter across. Everyone present could see the screen clearly. 
When the screen appeared, everyone was shocked. "Oh my god, this… Am I seeing this right? Stereoscopic projection?!" "Isn't this… Isn't this something you can only see in sci-fi movies? Are we at the scene of a sci-fi movie?!" "Young Master Dali's technology is ahead by tens of years? He managed to do stereoscopic projection?!"
Mu Tie stared in bewilderment. He pinched Hong Weiguo's leg hard and mumbled, "Weiguo, Dali's technology, there's such a big difference from ours?"
Hong Weiguo could not believe his eyes. He nodded, confused. "This… seems… huge…"
"Weiguo," Liu Yihui pinched his own face. "How many more secrets does your Dali have? Be honest with me! Do you know how much we can use if we mass product this smartphone?!"
In fact, they had no idea.
Hong Dali's nouveau riche smartphone was perfectly taken apart and put together, creating the current product.
That aside, just for the two projections from the smartphone, Hong Dali had taken apart tens of Holographic Projection parts before narrowing down to the two most suitable ones—these two holographic projection parts' additional function was that the projection could be operated without being affected by light!
The ordinary projection could only work when the surroundings were dark enough. Otherwise, the projection would become unclear.
But Hong Dali's device was completely unaffected by its surroundings. It was practical.
This smartphone alone was taken apart and put together countless times before the end product was completed. Hence, Hong Dali had given it a very glamorous name—"nouveau riche luxurious projection smartphone EX-2". It suited his superprodigal status very well…
It was not an exaggeration to say that the cost of this mobile phone was at least two million. This was really not something that ordinary people could afford…
Hong Dali then said, "I found something really interesting when I was playing with this yesterday. Let me show it to everyone!" He started typing on the smartphone and soon, a video started playing on the screen.

The young man shouted, "Idiot, what are you afraid of! When we developed it, we only copied 51% or 52% of the source code. It's still far from 60%. Damn it, do you think I wasn't aware of the copyright protection act? Look at how anxious you are, you can't even stay composed. How can you do big things?!"
Feng Yun website's lawyer sat down feeling weak. 
Irrefutable evidence, this was irrefutable evidence!
At that moment, everyone knew what kind of a scene that was. But the video was still playing, so everyone held their breath without making a sound. If they said anything and the court deemed them disrupting the court, they'd be in trouble. 
The middle-aged man asked, "Okay. I know. Young Master, what do you need me to arrange?"
The young man: "Get the best lawyer team! How can we miss such a good opportunity?! We can take the chance to bite them back and sue them of malicious accusation!"
Feng Yun website's lawyer immediately knelt down… 
When everyone thought that that was enough proof as evidence, what happened next was even more exciting! 


"I have to squander; otherwise, won't it be a waste of my parent's talent at earning money?" Hong Dali answers a reporter's question matter-of-factly. 

Just after the interview ends, Hong Dali opens the Great Prodigal System's interface and looks at the various good stuff displayed in it. Stroking his chin, he mumbles to himself, "I just need to squander 200 billion yuan more to exchange for the blueprint of the core technology, Engine Destruction, found in the strongest humanoid mecha weapon, Neo Granzon. Looks like I'll have to work harder!"

After it said all that, everything went black. A few minutes later, my head felt like it was being crushed when suddenly I am blinded by the light.

"Hello little one, your names gonna be Ash. Awww you're so adorable," the woman says affectionately.

Ash died and in rewarded for all his good deeds in life so, he decides to be reborn in the DC universe.

"Well, Eric, would you let my publishing house take care of your book ?" Michael Klaus didn't try to hide his intentions, as he very bluntly said.
 
Eric looked at the already printed and bounded manuscript that the black girl gave him, and said to Michael Klaus: "I'm sorry, Michael, though I appreciate your recognition, but you know, I want to try my luck with some of the larger publishing houses. Parents hope for their children to make it to the Ivy League, don't they ?"
 
Michael did not have the slightest expression of contempt or displeasure as he smiled and said: "Eric, you don't seem to have a full understanding of those large publishing companies, maybe we could find a place to talk, I know a cafe not far from here, my treat, how about it ?"
 
Eric took back the manuscript, and put it into his bag as he straightforwardly replied: "I'm sorry, Michael, I'm late for work, if in the future my manuscript gets rejected by those publishers, I will contact you."
 
Eric carried his backpack and got out of the printing shop, he started his car and drove towards the restaurant.
Michael hesitated a little, before immediately rushing out of the shop, getting into his car and following him. He had a feeling that if he missed this opportunity, he might regret it forever. This feeling he got was 30% because the Jurassic Park novel and 70% because of that young man called Eric.
 
Although he had only read the top half of the novel, Michael was surprised by the lad's knowledge. It had to be known that teens his age may have never heard of genetic engineering, chaos theory, nanotechnology and other high-tech factors. But not only was this kid well documented, he also used that vocabulary in a way that didn't actually make you lose interest in the novel, and instead added to the fascinating twists of the plot.
 
He had seen many types of sci-fi novels, but most of them used those scientific terms in a very boring way, that type of fiction was obviously not for all types of readers.
 
Eric parked his car on the parking lot and turned around to find a black car stopping not far away. Michael Klaus got out, he had apparently followed him. This served to satisfy Eric's vanity. His favourable impression of Michael was seriously growing.
 
"Hey, Eric-"  Michael waved his hand and was about to speak when Eric pointed at his watch and said: "That, Michael, you see, it's nine and I work in this Italian restaurant as a waiter, if you don't mind ordering breakfast, the bar and restaurant are basically deserted before 10 o'clock." Michael nodded knowingly and followed Eric as he walked into a restaurant.
 
Eric changed his clothes and came out, Michael had been sitting at a window seat, an empty breakfast plate in front of him.
 
"I explained the situation to Mr. Jeff, but you have to hurry." Eric sat across Michael, smiled and said: "I might be young, but I'm not that easily persuaded."
 
Michael laughed: "I believe after you hear my explanation you will certainly give it to me to publish. As I just said, you probably don't know those big publishers, but, I have worked at Simon & Schuster for eleven years, I did everything, from the most basic things to editing. Because I failed in the competition for the department manager position, I left and founded my own The Night Elves publishing house."
 
"What does that have to do with me ?" Because of his past life as a loser, Eric feared hearing about other people struggle stories, and couldn't help but interrupt.
 
"Relax, young man, I  just want to make you understand that I'm not kidding around and that my words are the truth. You know, I was originally editing reviews at first, every day I reviewed tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of words from drafts, although there were a lot of, ehm, bad manuscripts, there were also a lot of works that got published. At least 2000 different kinds of books make it each year. Even if you got published, they already have thousands of ongoing publications, how much promotional marketing resources do you think they'll use on a newbie ?"
 
Michael finished, stopped and took a sip of water, leaving Eric some room to process. Eric already got the idea but did not say anything, he kept staring at Michael, indicating him to keep going.

With my help, and under my guidance, your novel will have higher chances to make it into the bestseller list."
 
Michael laid all his cards on the table, then quietly waited for Eric's decision.
 
After hearing Michael's rant, Eric was still somewhat concerned. Even if a small publishing house put in all their resources, how much could that possibly be ?
 
His mind was still that of a middle-aged man, he had experienced a lot in his past life and had seen all kinds of people. So of course he wouldn't be so hot-blooded as to change his mind with only a few words. However, there were two points that Michael mentioned that kept hitting his sensitive strings:  in the shortest time possible,  and, help Jurassic Park build some fame.
 
No matter the era, fame had always been an intangible but incredibly useful asset. From Eric's point of view, the only obstacle to the implementation of his plan was his young age that would prevent him from receiving other's full trust and support.
 
But with enough fame, this shortcoming disappears. If an eighteen-year-old freshly graduated high school student were to become a movie director, people would just laugh in contempt. But if an eighteen-year-old talented writer becomes one, the results would definitely not be the same. Sure, there would still be criticism, but there would also be some who would think along the lines of: Damn, that genius kid is quite fierce.
 
Eric said: "I have to admit, Michael, you kinda moved me there. However, these are only promises, I still know nothing about your publishing house."
 
"It's very easy to change that," Michael calmly said: "One of the authors my publishing house is in charge of made it into the recent New York Times best-sellers list. Although he only made it into the last place, it didn't stop Twentieth Century Fox from purchasing the movie rights. It'll probably be made into a film in the following years."
 
Eric didn't doubt Michael's words, those kinds of things could be easily looked up. He said: "So, when do we start talking about this cooperation ?"
 
Michael was stunned for a second before stammering: "Y-you, you'll agree ?"
 
"Yes," Eric nodded and smiled, "To be honest, I just can't wait to see my novel hit the shelves."
 
"Alright so how about tonight ? I think you may need to work now." Michael pointed at the restaurant's entrance where guests were gradually increasing.
 
After the two men agreed on the meeting place, Michael left the restaurant satisfied.
 
"Eric, what did you talk about with that man ? You look unusually happy." Jeff asked. Eric had just told him that he had to discuss something important with a friend, so he was a bit curious.
 
Eric handed the menus over to the guests and then their orders to his colleagues in the kitchen, before replying: "Oh yeah, awesome news Jeff, that man is the owner of a publishing house, I will soon be published."
 
Jeff was a little confused, and asked as he looked at Eric strangely: "Publish a novel ? Didn't you tell me yesterday that you wanted to become a director, that you had written a script ? Are you going to give up on your dream so quickly to become a writer instead ?"
 
Eric said: "Of course not, my goal hasn't changed, writing won't prevent me from becoming a director now, will it ? The manuscript is in my backpack in the locker room, Jeff do you mind taking a look and giving me your opinion ?"
 
Jeff made his way to the locker room in puzzlement, he thought that Eric's novel would probably only be a thousand words short story, so when he saw the thick stack of paper that made up the manuscript, Jeff's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. There was definitely more than 150,000 words, in his entire life he probably hadn't even written so much !
 
He spent the lunch period busiest hours in leisure. The restaurant's staff was taken aback when they realized their boss seemed to have disappeared for several hours. For that old man who always hanged around to suddenly go AWOL, it was definitely weird.
 
When they were discussing if they should go look for him, Jeff came out from the locker room, patted Eric's shoulder and said: "Brilliant novel, you'll probably resign soon." With these words, Jeff left. Once their boss' figure disappeared, a group of people surrounded Eric to inquire about what happened.
 
And that's how, for the whole afternoon, from time to time waiters and kitchen staff members would take turns to go into the locker room to read Eric's work. A beautiful waitress even coyly asked him if she could take a it home.
 
Although Eric wasn't indifferent to the beautiful girl's flirtatious winks, he could only decline such a request. He had a few copies of the novel, and lending her one was not a problem, but before the book was published, he didn't want any untoward accidents to happen.

An advertising director is reborn in 1988 Hollywood as an eighteen-year-old blond-haired westerner named Eric Williams.

* WHAT ARE OLD CONVENTIONS ?

Old Conventions are the beliefs which have already been set over the period of years in the minds of the 'Readers' and the 'Authors'.

Examples include, 

01.  The Hero and the Demon Lord – The Hero, either one or multiple, always arrive from a real, non-fictional world with no magic or any supernatural power, while the world that they arrive in contains some supernatural or fantasy elements. The plot may be different for different novels, but the convention remains that the Hero and/or Demon Lord are at the center of the world, i.e. the plot of the entire world revolves around these two existences. 

The convention here is that the Hero or the Demon Lord are pure fighters in a traditional sense. (Even the Hero in the light novel "Realist kingdom Hero Reform Chronicles" < I forgot its name> is an 'administrative' fighter in a sense).

02. Xianxia and Xuanhuan Cultivation novels, where the primary focus of the entire series is on the fights, and how the Protagonist acquires various skills, etc. These Protagonists have fixed jobs, like a cultivator/ fighter, alchemist, and blacksmith. Basically, these guys do highly technical jobs with ease.


* WHAT IS BREAKING OLD CONVENTION ?

Breaking old convention means to make your Protagonist walk through unconventional paths.

Examples include,

01. Various Japanese light novels and web novels with the Hero template. Japanese light novel authors have broken many conventions over the traditional Hero and Demon Lord convention, and now we have novels like 'Rise of the Shield Hero' with and Anti- Hero Protagonist, 'Realist Hero's Reform Chronicles', where the summoned Hero only has administrative cheats.

02. The masterpiece 'World of Cultivation' by Fang Xiang where we see a very non-conventional Protagonist and even more non-conventional fights- while almost every Xianxia novel describes only the growth of the Protagonist, World of Cultivation breaks convention by introducing fights among armies made of cultivators.


* HOW TO BREAK CONVENTION ?

It is very easy to create a plot which breaks conventions, which is to make your Protagonist do jobs one usually wouldn't expect.

For example, 
In a Hero setting, the Protagonist can create an Adventurer's guild so that he wouldn't have to fight against the Demon Lord. Or maybe he could become an arms dealer, and enjoy his life rolling in loads of money while watching the two factions fighting against each other.

In a Xianxia setting, the Protagonist can be a journalist controlling all media in the world, using all kinds of cultivation technology to create and spread news. Or maybe he can be a person whose business is to create AV (Adult Video a.k.a Porn).

Note that in majority of these novels, there are hardly any characters around whom the entire plot revolves.


* PROPOSED IDEA

Following is the Idea being proposed :

01. The world follows a Xianxia setting, with the usual gimmicks.

02. The cultivators are majorly of two types : 

     (01) Swordsmen (or those who use a weapon, to develop 'essence' of their weapon).
     (02) Body Cultivators (who cultivate their bodies to become strong and indestructible).
     (03) Spell and Formation Cultivators (traditional cultivators who use magical spells and use formations).
     (04) Alchemists and Medicine Masters
     (05) Blacksmiths and the like.

03. The social hierarchy is mentioned in their decreasing order i.e. the Swordsmen have the highest status in society because of their attack power while the Blacksmiths have the lowest status because they are easily replaceable.

04. The four have the following innate advantages :
 (01) Swordsmen – they have the strongest attack power.
 (02) Body Cultivators – they have the highest defense.
 (03) Spell Cultivators – they have variation in their moves, and can coordinate attacks and defenses of a group. They also have high movement abilities.
 (04) Alchemists study how to prepare various medicines, while Medicine Masters study the various diseases and healing techniques. The difference between them is that Alchemists concentrate on optimizing the process of medicine creation, while Medicine Masters are like the doctors of the world.
 (05) Blacksmiths, etc – These people create weapons, armors and low level gadgets. The gadgets can be mechanical parts of carriage, or radio device, cannon, ship, etc.

05. The Protagonist belongs to a clan of puppet makers, and have a business of creating puppets for various purposes. However, puppets are considered an unorthodox path and looked down upon.

06. The Protagonist enrolls in a school where students follow orthodox paths of swordsmen, body cultivation and spell cultivation.

07. The rest of the plot is to be extended by the respective Author.

08. The selling point of this idea is in one major point – "The Creation of Life !" The puppets in the earlier chapters can be displayed as mere weapons, and as tools to create humorous situations. Eventually they would slowly develop instinct and intelligence, and eventually become sentient.

09. The previous point is important because any good web novel always has three points : creation of something (techniques, skills, weapons, spells), management and strategy (founding and managing a clan, sect, business, kingdom, empire), and warfare (fights between the Protagonist and/or his faction and others).

10. The Protagonist will eventually rise to become the father/mother/progenitor/creator of the Puppet race, and the puppet path will become an orthodox path.

11. The plot has a lot of scope, because as this is a Xianxia novel and not a Sci-fi one, the Author get easily get away by spouting b*llshit to explain how the Protagonist was able to create robotic arms, drones, armed airships, and an army of Terminators. It is relatively easy to explain technical things in Xianxia world.
