Sometimes a good example of what you are trying to achieve is worth a 1000 words of advice! When you are asked to write an essay, try to find some samples (models) of similar writing and learn to observe the craft of the writer. You can use the samples as a basis for working out how to write in the correct style.
About sample essays
Most books on essay writing will supply you with a number of model essays—collect some of these as they are great teachers! No matter what the topic is, you will see similarities between your writing tasks and these model essays. This is because many features of writing are common across subject areas. In some subjects (e.g. Law, Economics, Psychology and others), it is very useful to find subject-specific essay models as you can use these to work out the 'peculiarities' of writing for that subject area.
Read an academic essay
The following five paragraph essay has paragraph labels to show the parts of an academic essay. (Note: This essay does not contain authentic references and has been written specifically to use for this teaching task.)
Question
Discuss why assignment essays are common assessment tasks in undergraduate tertiary coursework, and evaluate the effectiveness of assignments as an avenue for learning. (Word limit 500 words – 10% leeway) Please note that the APA referencing style is used in this sample essay.
Introduction
Assignment essays are developed from set questions that give students a period of time to research a topic and produce their answer with references to their sources of information. While there are some disadvantages with using assignment essays as an assessment tool, there are sound educational purposes underpinning this practice. This essay examines the reasons why assignment essays are beneficial for student learning and considers some of the problems with this method of assessment.
Body paragraph 1
Assignment essay tasks are set to assist students to develop mastery of their study subject. Firstly, assignment tasks enhance understandings about subject matter. Yang and Baker (2005) reason that "to master your learning materials and extend your understandings, you need to write about the meanings you gain from your research" (p. 1). Secondly, research (Jinx, 2004; Zapper, 2006) clearly demonstrates that students learn the writing conventions of a subject area while they are researching, reading and writing in their discipline. This activity helps them to "crack the code" of the discipline (Bloggs, 2003, p. 44). Thus, students are learning subject matter and how to write in that disciplinary area by researching and writing assignment essays.
Body paragraph 2
Using assignment essays for assessment supports student learning better than the traditional examination system. It is considered that course-work assignment essays can lessen the extreme stress experienced by some students over 'sudden-death' end of semester examinations:
If we insist that all students write about everything they have learned in their study courses at the same time and in the same place (e.g. in examinations), we are not giving all of our students equal opportunities. Some students are not daunted by the exam experience while others suffer 'exam nerves' and perform at the lowest level of their capabilities. (Wonderland University, 2006, p. 4)
Additionally, Jones et al. (2004, pp. 36-37) propose that assignment essays can be used to assess student learning mid-course and so provide them with helpful feedback before they are subjected to the exam experience. Exams only provide students with a mark rather than specific feedback on their progress. Therefore, setting assignment essays for a substantial part of student assessment is a much fairer approach than one-off examination testing.
Body paragraph 3
As an assessment tool, assignment essays have some disadvantages for lecturers and students. It has been found that assignment essays consume a great deal of staff time and money to mark and student time to prepare (Sankey & Liger, 2005, p. 192). A consequence of these problems is that feedback to students is frequently delayed, and this is much less useful to students than rapid feedback (p. 294). It is partly because of these disadvantages of time and expense that other assessments such as multiple-choice tests and short answer questions have an enduring place in the tertiary learning environment.
Conclusion
To conclude, it seems that assignment essays continue to have a prominent role in tertiary education as an assessment tool. This is mainly because they are very effective in developing knowledge and writing skills for subject areas. Also, assignment essays can be less stressful than examinations as they allow students to show their understanding of content in less pressured circumstances. On the other hand, the time consuming nature of writing and marking essays points to some disadvantages that also need to be considered. The weight of evidence, however, supports the writing of assignment essays for student assessment because this approach has such positive and proven effects for improved student learning.

Analyse an academic essay
Most students really appreciate seeing a finished product. If you are to really benefit from model essays, you need to learn how to read the 'techniques of the writer'. The following exercise helps you to get started with developing your 'read the writer' skills.

Editor and Proof Reader: King Of Mortals, Dervish
When he opened the chatbox, Cai Xun noticed a blinking icon on the left side of the chat bar. The icon was blinking with a yellow light which indicated that this was something new and the user had not tried it before.
He clicked on the icon and a blue panel popped up. There were three bars on this panel. The first bar was for selecting the language that the user preferred. The second one was for selecting whether the user wanted to see only the translated version or both, side by side.
The third one was for some settings related to font style and size.
Cai Xun selected country C's language as his main language and chose the side by side message option. He wanted to see whether the translated message was really as sent by the other party.
After setting this up, he opened a messaging app and asked his friend from another region to join him in the game. 
He could not wait to test this new feature. It's the natural reaction of people whether they are kids or adults, when they see something new, they can't wait to try it and see what's so special about it.
His friend soon joined him in the game. His friend Fredrik is from a Western country and speaks English. They became friends after playing against each other online in a match. Cai Xun was defeated by Fredrik but he could not admit his defeat so he asked for a rematch. 
Fredrik agreed and from then the game of win and lose started. To this day, they had a score of 27 wins to Fredrik, 31 wins to Cai, and 3 draws. 
Through this online interaction, both came to respect each other a lot, and thus a friendship across continents was formed.
Cai Xun was not a good English speaker, but he tried to learn it. After spending more than 3 months with each other, he was able to somewhat understand what Fredrik wanted to say from the chat. 
When this new translation plugin for the game was announced, he saw the hope of being able to communicate freely with his friend and rival.
After connecting, Fredrik immediately sent him a message. Cai looked at the message that he received and was surprised.
From the original English sentence that he received, he was able to somewhat understand the meaning of it but when he saw the translated version, he smiled.
Fredrik had sent him a joke and since his English was weak, the meaning was distorted so he was not able to pick up the humor in the joke but the translated version of joke made him laugh out loud. The translated sentence did not look like a sentence that was translated by machine in any way. It displayed the full meaning.
He immediately started to type in C's language and wanted to see if Fredrik understood what he wanted to say to him but after thinking for a while, he used the voice to text plugin and sent the same message.
He asked him in pure C ( C's language) about his well being and added a quote in the message too and he asked Fredrik to tell him about the meaning of the quote.
Just 20 seconds after sending the message, he received a reply from Fredrik. The message was delivered to him in both languages but Cai automatically ignored the English and focused on C. 
Fredrik had told him that he was well and explained the quote with the exact meaning. 
Just from this short test, Cai Xun knew that this translation plugin was a huge success and he was not the only one who had done tests with the plugin. Many other players, even some companies had tested this translation software and were in awe of it.
This was truly a leap above the current software market and these tech companies knew that this software was going to be hot. 
Just an hour after the launch of the new software, the "Evos" call center became paralyzed. Calls on calls were coming and many wanted to know if the software was available outside the game.

The people and the companies calling were just small fries. The big players in this field were having emergency meetings.
All data about the game and company were on the tables in these meetings. Of course, all this data that they had was only what Fu Yan allowed the world to see. They could not access detailed information about the owner and its specific management system.
They only knew that this company came into being less than a half-year ago and that it released one big project after another that was dominating in its respective field. The game that the company created became known for its graphics and cloud play. 
After a while, they released a voice to text plugin for the game which also became popular in the game community but did not gather that much attention from the tech giants and finally the translation software which is currently going hot in the market.
They had the data about Fei Hong, Jiao Mei, and some other staff too. All in all, everyone was staring at "Evos" now and many were to ready to eat this juicy prey. 
Like other tech giants, an emergency meeting was being held at google's regional headquarter under the leadership of the vice president Chen Fan. 
He also had a file containing the data about "Evos" and its operations. There was also a file that had the data on Fu Yan. When he came to "Evos" and saw Fu Yan there, he decided to investigate him too but all the data showed that Fu Yan was just an ordinary boy who had nothing to do with the company.
He looked at the files and then shifted his attention to the project head of the translation team and the team members sitting next to him. 
"Ok, who will give me a brief report on how good is this translation software released by "Evos" compared to ours." Chen Fan asked in a deep voice. 
After hesitating for a while, one team member stood up and picked up a file from the table and explained. 
"Sir, we have tested this software against ours, and from current data, the software from "Evos" is at least 60% faster than ours and has 40% more accuracy."
Chen Fan looked at the man who was explaining and asked.
"Is this data accurate or will there be changes in the future."
The young man gulped and said in a low voice.
"Sir, the data may vary after further testing."
Chen Fan's face turned grim after hearing this.

(Commas) Commas are ALWAYS used to indicate a break in speaking. It is commonly used for talking about several different nouns in the same sentence. Only use the comma when there is more than 2 nouns. Use "and" to connect two nouns.
For example:
"I have pistols, snipers, machine guns, and shotguns. Which one do you want?"

(Commas) Commas can also be used after short phrases that describe the situation. Which should then be followed by an action or event caused by that situation. Essentially the phrase is the cause, and the following sentence is the effect. Used generally with "so", "but" or a noun.
For example:
My sister was extremely mad, so I stayed quiet and avoided agitating her further.
After the heavy storm, the court was filled with huge puddles.

(Commas) They are used when talking about the date depending on which format is used.
In a month-day-year format, the comma comes after the day. However, the comma is not used when speaking about the date in a day-month-year format.
For example:
July 19, 2011, is my birthday.
The deadline is 11 November 2020.

(Commas) Commas are also used in order to interject thoughts or statements in a sentence.
For example:
The essay, filled with grammatical errors, was not going to get a good grade.
This girl, who I hated, turned out to be the fiancee arranged by my grandfather.
"Mom, where is my stuff?"

(Commas) Depending on which audience you have. American English has a comma at the end of every quote before the quotation mark. While the British English has the comma after the quotation mark. However, this only applies if and only if there is not an exclamation mark (!) or a question mark (?) at the end of the sentence already.
For example:
"Why are you still reading this?" the author asked.
"This is my life," stated the monster. (American)
"Aside from this, I have nothing else", said Joey. (British)



There are plenty of other specific usages for the comma, but the above mentioned points are generally where they are used the most. In summary, I would say the best way to learn comma usage is to focus on comma usage in lists and interjections as they are the most prevalent in English writing.

Angeal called out his name, snapping the Soul Eater out of his thoughts. She then held his face, her eyebrows furrowed as her thumb caressed his cheek.
"Devin... look at you. Were you coughing out blood again?"
She didn't care if she wiped the blood from the corner of Devin's lips with her thumb.
She grew worried about him by the second, remembering how this weakened him a year ago and he may feel the same now.
Her eyes pooled tears again, looking at Devin as she saw the weariness and at the same time, sadness in his eyes.
"That expression again! You're like the man I saw a year ago. Those sad eyes... why--"
But what Devin did interrupted Angeal, making her stop mid-sentence.
He held Angeal's hand that was touching his face, his eyebrows creasing as he looked straight in Angeal's eyes.
"Why are you so worried about me when I'm the one worried about you?"
Angeal blinked her eyes once and asked, "What?"
Before answering her question, Devin wiped Angeal's tears away with his thumbs. Both of his hands held her face, gently touching her as if he was afraid to hurt her. 
"You're the one who's heartbroken. You're the one who was betrayed by people you trust. Yet you come here worried for me when people should be the one worried for you?"
Angeal shook her head. It didn't matter to her about the situation that she was in. When she heard that Devin is in a rampage, she worried about the safety of the others, the immortals, and also Arlo. 
But then, she was also worried about Devin.
She remembered how he struggled a year ago to control himself just so he could not hurt both her and Gladios.
She remembered how desperate and sad his eyes looked, not wanting to be out of control just because of his hunger around humans.
Now that Devin is more in control of himself, Angeal became curious as to why he lost his control. 
She may have predicted that it was because of her crying, but could that be the only sole reason why?
"Devin... why?"
Angeal asked, Devin now letting go of her face as his hands landed on her shoulders. 
"Why did you suddenly lose your control? Why did you target Arlo? I mean... I know you're angry that he cheated on me, but--"
"Do you really need me to point it out?"
Devin interrupted, Angeal, still looking up at him because of their slightly big height difference. 
Angeal nodded to answer his question, Devin, holding her face once more as his thumb caressed her left cheek.
He then spoke, making Angeal furrow her brows as she did not understand what he said since he seemed to speak in another language that she didn't understand.
"Perché sei l'amore della mia vita, Angeal. Perché non devo fare nulla al riguardo?"
Angeal furrowed her brows, not even understanding a single word that he said! Devin just gave her a small smile, making Angeal pout as she requested him to tell her what it means.
"How should I even understand that? Tell me what it means."
Devin shook his head, a soft chuckle coming from him as he now wrapped Angeal in his arms, surprising her with his sudden show of affection. 
"Learn Italian. And you'll know."
With Devin staying in the human world for too long, he had already learned the languages he could while staying in the library for too long! 
"What?" Angeal arched a brow at him, "Tell me again and I'll Google translate later."
Devin chuckled again, "No. You'll never hear it again."
Angeal puffed her cheeks as she narrowed her eyes at him, finding his unusual playfulness something unexpected right at this serious situation.
Devin smiled as he pinched Angeal's cheek slightly, the meaning of what he said in Italian, lingering in his mind as he stared lovingly straight into Angeal's eyes.

"Devin, do you love me?"

Hearing her question that had snapped him out of his thoughts, the Soul Eater opened his eyes slowly to meet her blue eyes once more. He smiled foolishly as his right hand reached out to her face, his thumb caressing her bottom lip.

Angeal pouted like a child. 

"Tell me you love me... or I’ll cry."

Devin chuckled, making Angeal pout more as she narrowed her eyes at him. When Devin ceased his jovial laughter, he didn’t answer her question. Instead, he bent down as he pulled her closer to him, his lips smoothly landing on hers to give her a loving kiss. 

’I love you, Angeal. Before I even knew it, my heart yearned for you.’

Punished by the Almighty Seraphim, Devin was branded a fallen angel and was given a curse to become a Soul Eater—a being who is hungry for souls and feeds on them for sustenance.

Devin was bound on earth, looking for clues on how to cure his irrevocable curse until a desperate old man saw the Soul Eater and begged him to save his newborn granddaughter’s life.

Pedal and keep pedaling. The sun was overhead, that afternoon the heat was really stinging.

Najma back down the road, across every inch of rural land. Where is she going? She didn't know.

All she had in mind was pedaling and pedaling.

When realizing, she found herself in front of a wooden bridge. Below there ia a fast flowing river side by side with the residents vegetable fields.

Najma changed to pushing her bicycle, cross the bridge and pedal again.

"Miss, where are you going?," a field farmer called out to her.

Najma stopped pedaling, then turned to the source of the sound.

But luck overshadowed Najma that day. Just half an hour cycling, she had found the waterfall by the side of the road. 

Above a hollow and between large black rocks, the falling water was in heavy intensity.

Najma stopped, put her bike by the waterfall. She sat for a long time on the biggest rocks, let part of her body be splashed by water from the top of the cliff.

At that time Najma just wanted to enjoy the view of the water fall which was very impressive to the five of senses.

High cliffs, overgrown green trees split by crystal clear waterfall drops. Everything looks perfect. Especially when a thin, colorful curve is formed on it. Najma amazed, His power was incomparable.

It felt like the whole weight of her mind was shedding, the sadness doesn't know where.

Najma's tears dripped, but it was quickly removed. She still remembered her own promise.

That's where she remembered the turquoise paper she had gotten from the stall. Najma reached into her pocket, her wet hands crumpled the paper a little.

Najma read it. A handwritten letter on it, looks very neat as a handwriting.

Najma read it over and over again, trying to understand the meaning contained in it. 

At the Pandan Wangi, Sayyid and the stall staff were quite overwhelmed by the crowd of visitors to the stall.

Since morning Sayyid has also been involved in serving the visitors, he took the order then brought the ready order.

The crowd gradually reduced after lunchtime. Now Sayyid is sitting relaxed on the terrace of the stall, steal time to rest.

In contrast to what she have said, she answered the question. She's bored. And she wants to end the test immediately.

"We can always ask our leader." Said Mana. She sat comfortably on the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. "He might have a say to this."

"You two sure give up easily, huh." He said dryly. "Haruka, I thought that you're observing things inside the past rooms. Let me explain it to the two of you." Kaneko cleared his throat and continued what he was saying: "People who haven't tasted failure and Always win tends to become ignorant. Success could be blinding." He repeated the first quote. "It clearly depicts Mana. Sometimes, the answer you were seeking was in front of you, yet you blindly ignored it. Remember all of the past math answers? Lastly, Now comes the time where you will seek for nothing after ignoring the answer. It's happening right now. You two don't know the passcode because you two were so ignorant. The answer is 1 4 7 2 1 8 6." And with that, their leader intervention ended. 

They knew it now! What those quotes were saying. Mana punched in the passcode and the door unlocked! The two immediately leaved the room and the building. The two were looking around if the other four leave the building first, but there were no signs of them. 

"We have a winner! It's class F again!"
