Since now was the perfect time for her to check on what had been going on at the chat group she picked up her phone which she had left by her laptop and she had been ignoring since she started writing a little while ago.

A lot of the messages were from Yuuki just talking about random stuff including her plans for future cosplays along with her upcoming trip back to the US to visit her family, while some where just other chat members that Honoka didn't really know at all.... Seemingly new members that had just joined recently.


Along with a privately sent message from Azuki talking about the other details that she had forgotten to mention about the upcoming photoshoot in Kyoto.

Oh, I almost forgot to ask if any costume was fine to wear for the photoshoot...

She had almost just went with the recently just finished costume for the upcoming photoshoot but she suddenly realised that the photoshoot might have some kind of theme and not just a "wear whatever".

She quickly unlocked her phone and typed a message through direct message to Azuki asking about that said topic.

"It's gonna be a kimono-themed shoot but the character doesn't matter, you can do any character as long as the clothing is a kimono."

Was what Azuki had said.

With her question now answered she now knows what to do when it comes to the theme and character.

She decided to order a long curly blonde-colored wig like a character from a certain game franchise that had begun in the early thousands as a arcade game online via express delivery along with green contact lenses, now all she had to do was wait for a day for the items to be delivered.

With that out of that now out of the way she went around her apartment and cleaned it since she has nothing to do after she finished her draft and its currently in the review/proof read process.

Like a vacuum cleaner she cleaned every corner had been cleaned and tidied up.

"The person you talked about is actually a part f the chat group, I just saw her send a selfie of herself with the username "Kokoro"."

"I thought she was just messing with me..."

Honoka who for some reason doubted the ginger-haired artist when she mentioned being a member of it as well now believed that she had told the truth and wasn't just messing with her.

But she told me in a tone that sounded like she was just joking, I didn't expect her to actually be serious about it...

Her evening was uneventful and she just went to bed after chatting with the other members of the chat group.

But the next day someone unexpected had visited her apartment...

Somone rang Honoka's apartment's doorbell again but this time it wasn't her editor that did it but Koto.

A week later
The week went by so fast it was almost a blur. Monday came and the work was hectic, the coworkers were annoying, and the printer was broken for the third time in the past two weeks. I sat at my desk trying to remember what happened last Friday night. Angie and Jamie were holding the details hostage. The thought of the unknown was nagging at me. What did I do? I peeked at the clock to see it was almost 9:30am. Thirty more minutes and we get to meet the new interim Editor-in-Chief. He was the talk of every cubicle, this guy. He was probably some rich college kid whose dad pulled a few strings for. Nothing fancy about those types, all mouth and no substance. Most of the females in the digital and fashion department stood next to the break area, awaiting the new arrival. I however, had work to do. My mind was too busy searching my memory for evidence that Friday night actually happened.
          The squawk of the Social Media Manager filled the room, her hands clapped to get everyone's attention. Finally, the chatter came to an end as people gave her their undivided attention.
          "Look I know everyone is eager to see the new face, but we still have a business to run. We can't do that if you are all standing around like schoolgirls waiting on the popular guys to walk into the classroom. Get back to work, please." A collective sigh hissed the lips of the curious women as they dropped their cups in the trash and headed back to their desk. Satisfied that the crowd dispersed, she headed back to her workstation.

          With my pen in hand, I focused on the task in front of me. As sub-editor, I had to hold my shit together. That and I didn't really care to see this new guy. My apathy towards good men left no desire to even consider them as a partner. I liked them rough and stupid… same as always. I rolled my eyes at the thought. Was it a curse I was destined to live with? Possibly. Either way, until I understand myself fully, I must accept who I am.
          One more entry to go and I would be done with the current project. Some homeless saxophone player actually made the cover of our magazine for this month's issue. He had been homeless for about three years, I think. Then, he had some bright idea to just randomly show up at wedding events, playing by limos for the bride and groom as they walked outside. After some time, an agent caught wind of it and as luck would have it, he signed some contract and became a YouTube sensation overnight, garnering over five million views under forty-eight hours. Impressive? Maybe, if that weren't the tale-tell story of almost every New Yorker you see on the street. So strange how people can go from unproductive and uneducated, to millionaires overnight. All you need is to be in the right place at the right time. Yet us regular people have to work for a living. Well, this regular person chooses to. No need to be a parasite on society just because I have the money to do as I please. That's how people become lazy, that is the difference between them and me. Not saying that I am better than them, but I care more about society and try not to be a douchebag just because I have a privilege that affords me leisure that regular people can't.
          Anyway, I clicked save on the word document and dropped it in an email ready to send to the Editor. That was when I saw the name. Aiden Strickland. Sounded like the name of my high school biology teacher. I concluded the fact that this must be our interim. Judging by the name, he was probably in his mid 40's. Far too high strung to boss people around. Entitled was also another word that came to mind. Or maybe I was being too harsh just because I'm in my thirties and don't really know what love is. Maybe, just maybe my beef isn't with him. Just men in general. Still doesn't make up for the fact that the name sounds ridiculous.
I need to stop thinking so much.
          After I hit send, I stood up for a stretch, leaning from side to side with my arms over my head and my hands clasped together. That's when I heard someone yell,
          "He's here!"
All of the women rushed out at once, leaving the guys looking back and forth at each other, wondering what was going on. Of course, they were clueless, they just come in do their jobs and leave. Which isn't a bad thing; much better than getting caught up in water cooler talk. I cared not for what was going on in the lobby. I had too much work to do. These articles weren't going to correct themselves. Besides, I think the best impression would be sitting at your desk and doing your work, rather than flocking around him like crazed fans.

          One more document and I can go to lunch. There was a cafe nearby that I frequented, just because my mother worked there part-time when she had to take up more jobs just to take care of us. Sure, dad's check paid the rent but that was it. Rent and medicine for him. She had to bear the burden of the car note, insurance and all other utility bills. As much as I was mad at her for not protecting me, she was all I had to help me sleep at night.
          My eyes narrowed at the computer screen as I corrected what I could. Marginal sizes were correct format and the tone of the article remained the same throughout. And then there were the facts, oh how important the facts were, because no one wants to publish something that isn't true right? Truth sells and sex sells, lies get you temporary readers and possibly a lawsuit. Something this company can't afford at this time. With the internet being the main source for people's information; days of the newspaper and magazine stands are becoming obsolete. My suggestion to the Editor before he got sick, was to start online subscriptions. We had the talent in house to develop the application, all we needed was the funding and the green light. That proposal fell flat when he never replied. I guess the older you are, the harder it is to see change. I still don't understand how this company was staying afloat. Our printers aren't even up to date for crying out loud. So much could be improved upon, I guess that his health being so poor, might be a good thing for this company. To start anew, with young fresh ideas. Maybe the almighty Aiden could be that young fresh and rewarding new face of the company. Clearly, I think too much. My head was starting to hurt from all the thinking and straining to see the screen, it wasn't even midday and I was already tired of work. But I must persevere.
          I printed out the names of each article section and the targeted audience to run by a few people before I added to the timeline as complete. Rising out of my seat, I headed over to the printer that was across the room and down the hall. I could still hear a bit of commotion going on in the lobby. I guess they were having a small meeting with the new guy. While everyone else was being unproductive, here I am working and getting things done. Either that or let my anxiety get the best of me. I was better when I worked. For a total of eight hours, everything seemed all right. I never understood why I wouldn't get myself a therapist; I know I need one. It's not like I can't afford it even without the shitty healthcare they have here.
          Across the room and down the hall, my heels echoed in the quiet hallway of elaborate paintings and colorful fake plants on each end. Now in the copy room, the one place where it seemed to be normal. Everywhere else was primary colors with a splash of pastel here and there. I often wondered if we were running a magazine company or a daycare center. Seriously, this place needs a makeover. Not only that, the pipes were still showing on the ceiling from the last remodel that got us to this travesty.

          The printer started up, I folded my arms and tapped my foot, waiting on my document. Then the noise stopped, and an amber light flashed. Of course, out of paper, because no one here thinks to refill the damn tray. Letting out an annoyed sigh, I headed to the cabinets, opening each one, no paper there. Pulled out the drawers, nothing there either. I bent over to open the lower cabinet doors when I heard the sound of shoes scuffing along the carpet. Finally finding a pack of paper, I raised up to see a tall, well dressed and well poised man standing in the doorway with a few people behind him. Susan Thomas, from the picture editor department, and Sheila Morales from front office. Probably giving him a tour of the place. Not that there is much to look at. Every magazine company was the same. Tours were so overrated.
          "And this is one of the four copy rooms that we have. The other two are on the second floor," Susan concluded as she waved her hand towards the room. For a moment, I was taken aback by his features. He didn't seem like the know it all type, nor did he look like a brat. He appeared confident and self assured; like he has been in this position before. He stood about six feet three inches, maybe weighed, I don't know a good one hundred sixty-five pounds, give or take. He wasn't a baby I can tell you that. The way his beard was trimmed reeked of money, he was possibly loaded already, maybe just like me and is doing this to keep from being bored with life. His hair cut was clean, sharp and stylish. A bit of hair swayed in front of his face; the rest slicked to the side. The suit likely tailor made to fit, and the first thing to catch my eye, were those beautiful green eyes. Okay, I stand corrected. But I am still not a fan.
          We stared at each other for about a minute as I took in more of his features. Trying not to let my feelings show on my face. I cupped the paper in my hands, breaking the gaze and headed back to my desk. For some reason, I felt his eyes were watching me as I walked away. I felt a tickle down my spine until I made it around the corner, no longer in his sight. What is wrong with you? Shaking my head, I chuckled off the strange feeling, then I realized, I walked out without refilling the tray and printing my document.
          "Damn it!" Now I have to go back and feel awkward again." Taking a deep breath, I walked with heavy feet back to the printer room, to see they were gone. A sigh of relief rushed through me. I tore open the pack of paper, filled the tray and pressed continue. Within a few minutes, I had my document and I hurried back down the hall towards my desk unnoticed. Taking a seat, I placed the files in a folder and then into a portfolio. My work was almost complete. I looked up at the clock, it was now 10:30am. Could this day go by any slower. I found it strange that I had not heard from Angie or Jamie at all this morning. Curious, I logged into my computer and pulled up the calendar. They both had PTO today.
          "Why would they both take time off?" I said as I closed the application.
          "Take time off for what?" I heard someone say from the right of me. I turned to see nothing but a hand in pocket. Twisting my neck upward, I saw it was my new boss. Aiden Strickland. The name doesn't suit him, not one bit. Then he smiled and extended his hand.
          "Hi, I'm Aiden, the interim Editor-in-Chief." His smile still plastered on his face as he spoke. I tilted my head, getting another good look at him. But I felt as if I might make him uncomfortable, so I stopped cleared my throat and stood up, shaking his hand. He had a very firm grip. Hands warm, nails clean.
          "Nice to meet you Mr. Strickland,"
          "Please, call me Aiden,"
          "Nice to meet you, Aiden. I was just talking about my friends taking time from work, that was all."
He nodded.
          "I see you were the only one I didn't get to meet upon my entry. That was a mandatory meeting. Why didn't you report to the lobby?" He asked, his green eyes were like lasers pointed at my forehead, ready to take the shot. My eyebrows furrowed and I was at a loss for words. I had no idea it was mandatory. Who in the hell does that anyway…
          "Oh… I had so much work to do, I thought that would have been more important. There is a deadline for the street performer edition and so I…" my words fumbled harder than the Cowboys in the 4th quarter with only 2 yards to touchdown for the win. We all know how that turns out. The smile that settled on his face was that of being impressed. Or so I hope it was. Lord knows I don't want to start out on the wrong foot. Not that I am worried about losing my job, however having a pleasant work environment is very important.
          "Well, hopefully the rest of the staff works as hard as you do," he replied with a slight rock of the feet from heel to toe. The sudden silence was thick, I guess he expected me to keep up the conversation, but I had nothing else to give. I was not the talkative type.
          He looked around and then cleared his throat and adjusted his black tie. I smiled shyly but was beginning to feel a bit pressured. It was almost as if he was waiting on me to say something still.
I had nothing.
Then I replied, "So, I saw that they gave you the grand tour of the building?" That got me over the hump, my heart was beating too fast for me to keep a straight face.
          "Yes, they did, Susan and…" he raised his finger, trying to remember the other woman's name.
          "Sheila," I helped him out. He snapped his fingers and nodded.
          "Yes, Ms. Sheila. They both showed me around, but no one has shown me my office yet." I was shocked that Margaret hadn't taken the time to be the one to do so. She was always a brown-noser, always sucking up to the leads. Yet she wasn't here to carry out this simple pleasure. I also noticed that the Editor's Assistant wasn't around either. A lot of people were missing today. Made me wonder if I was the only one that cared about the deadline.
          "Well, that is unfortunate. I've never been to the Editor's office, usually his assistant would come down and collect whatever is needed for review." Aiden frowned a bit and removed his hands from his pocket stroking his chin for a moment.
          "That seems wasteful as a leader. I will make sure to change that. Communication and visibility to me is very important in a company. So, do you know the general direction, to the office?" He asked his eyes gazing directly into mine as if he was expecting something from me. Either that or I am just losing it. Expecting the worst from everyone, because of my own messed up thoughts. I knew it would only be a matter of time before they raised their ugly heads again. Relieving myself of the backward thoughts, I pointed towards the stairwell that was a few feet over from my cubicle. He followed the direction and smiled again.
          "Thank you. See you around. Looking forward to working with you, sub-editor." With a slight bounce he headed for the stairs. With a bit of curiosity, I watched as he jogged his way to the second floor, disappearing around the privacy glass wall.
